FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I teach Surface Materials at UCLA Extension in the Interior Design Program. It requires that I keep up-to-date on all categories of materials and finishes. Because of that, I'm able to give my clients the benefit of my extensive knowledge so they don't make a costly mistake of installing materials. Another benefit is that I see more new materials and finishes than your contractor does, so I can offer more customized solutions to fit within your budget.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Before your initial interview or consultation do your homework. Pull pictures of rooms off the internet, from magazines, and books. You may have no idea what style works for you or what colors are best, but you do have a reaction when you see something you like. If youve pulled color swatches, tiles, whatever, have them all available to show the interior designer. Consider whether or not you plan to integrate all your existing furnishings and accessories or want a whole new look, Do you want to phase in furnishings as the budget will allow? Your spouse or significant other should be present at the initial meeting even if they tell you "Do whatever you want." Often time the truth is "Do whatever you want as long as I like it and its in the budget." Think about what your budget is before the project is defined. Know how much you plan to invest and share that with the interior designer. You dont want us to pull fabrics or tile or flooring material that break the bank so to speak, or that arent as high end as you imagined. Hopefully, you have called us before building plans are drawn. Things work out best when we are brought in at the inception of the project. However, if thats not the case be sure to have architectural plans available. If you have existing floor plans or are already working with an architect, any work in progress should be available for the initial meeting. We charge by the hour and you will save money if you prepare for our meeting.
