I hired CJ Design Group to help give my home a "facelift" on a limited budget. Cynthia listened to my wishes, and had the innate ability to understand my taste while giving me what was practical - not a fanciful plan that was not functional. She chose colors, fabrics, flooring, hardware, and decor. She would often show up with a found item for the house, and we used them all. She took a previously useless hallway and turned it into the focus on the downstairs space by designing a beautiful arched entertainment unit that closes behind floor to ceiling oak doors. From the smallest detail to the most ornate, she made sure everything flowed. It was beyond my expectations, and our home has even been featured online in design sites. How's that for a facelift? I highly recommend CJ Design Group.

We had a horrible flood in our home, a pipe burst, flooded everything, and we had to redo the whole downstairs. We were so lucky to find Cynthia to help us. She guided us with replacing the floors and redoing all of the painting. She found us a wonderful faux painter who under Cynthia's guidance transformed our home in to a work of art. We could have just redone everything as it was, which was very nice.... but for the same price we created a wonderful space which we love. Cynthia helped us put our furniture and pictures and everything else back and now when our friends come over they think we have new furniture! We do too because it all looks so much better. She is a jem, easy to work with and so creative. We love you Cynthia! ....And she took the broken pipe and created a piece of art that my husband absolutely loves!!! It is the topic of conversation with everyone who sees it.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I teach Surface Materials at UCLA Extension in the Interior Design Program. It requires that I keep up-to-date on all categories of materials and finishes. Because of that, I'm able to give my clients the benefit of my extensive knowledge so they don't make a costly mistake of installing materials. Another benefit is that I see more new materials and finishes than your contractor does, so I can offer more customized solutions to fit within your budget.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Before your initial interview or consultation do your homework. Pull pictures of rooms off the internet, from magazines, and books. You may have no idea what style works for you or what colors are best, but you do have a reaction when you see something you like. If you’ve pulled color swatches, tiles, whatever, have them all available to show the interior designer. Consider whether or not you plan to integrate all your existing furnishings and accessories or want a whole new look, Do you want to phase in furnishings as the budget will allow? Your spouse or significant other should be present at the initial meeting…even if they tell you "Do whatever you want." Often time the truth is "Do whatever you want as long as I like it and it’s in the budget." Think about what your budget is before the project is defined. Know how much you plan to invest and share that with the interior designer. You don’t want us to pull fabrics or tile or flooring material that break the bank so to speak, or that aren’t as high end as you imagined. Hopefully, you have called us before building plans are drawn. Things work out best when we are brought in at the inception of the project. However, if that’s not the case be sure to have architectural plans available. If you have existing floor plans or are already working with an architect, any work in progress should be available for the initial meeting. We charge by the hour and you will save money if you prepare for our meeting.
