David is one of those rare and gifted individuals who can get to the heart of the matter in any scene, monologue or exercise with a student and truly help them understand what they are doing. His knowledge of the craft, his eye for behavior, his ability to keep his students at ease and focused - these are all traits of what an acting teacher should be. He can teach both the beginner as well as the veteran actor, bringing layers of script and character analysis to the forefront and keeping an actor honest. I have worked with him in a myriad of capacities: as an actor, as a student, as a fellow teacher, and as a fellow student. David Robinette is, without a doubt, one of the most influential and inspiring acting coaches that I ever had. The things I learned from him had (and still have) a great impact on my life and my career as an actor and director; and not only because of the technique and skills that I was able to develop with him but, most importantly, because he made me realize what my true potential was. I met him in a time of self doubt, when I most needed to find inspiration and a meaningful reason to continue in this (sometimes) crazy world of the show business. He provided the necessary guidance to help me find my voice back again. He goes beyond the technique to get to the very core of things. His methods sometimes are unconventional and bold; which is both freeing and refreshing, because he has an extraordinary sense of humor and because he works hand in hand with you without judging, accompanying you along the journey as a friend, as a fellow actor. An actor with an extraordinary keen eye and very unusual sensitivity and commitment. I find this to be very important, because it opens you up to the work and to the material in a way that would not be possible otherwise. I found joy in the work, and confidence, and boldness in my choices as a result of this. Its common knowledge that Its easier to work with great actors: they can react to everything that you give them, let it affect them in a truthful and organic way, and then give something back to you in a way that genuinely affects you. They just make your work easier and fun and meaningful; and they make you look good. It works the same way with great acting coaches, because they manage get to the best part of your artistic self. Its inspiring and freeing and a joy. Some people just have the talent and the experience to inspire all these things, and David is, without question, among the very best.

David is the real deal. His ability to dissect the craft and break it down to a level of seemingly unconscious awareness for the actor is truly amazing. I witnessed him help take seasoned actors from good to great, while simultaneously guiding beginning actors into revelatory breakthrough territory.

I worked as an actor in a play that David had written and directed. He is a true professional that every actor (or anyone for that matter) should be fighting to work with him. He creates a highly artistic environment and allows for creativity and exploration. He is not just an outstanding artist, but an outstanding human as well! FAQs

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over the years continued to train as an actor and writer. In the last couple of years I have focused on playwriting and have taken some writing classes. While achieving my Masters, I also took professional acting workshops outside of the academic environment. I am always eager to learn, that is part of being an actor -- continual curiosity.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
By the 4th grade I knew I wanted to be an actor. In and out side of school my pursuits were singular. A discovery in my 20's was that I also enjoyed teaching. In total as a student, teacher, and professional I have 24 years of experience. It's what I have always wanted to do.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I teach students scene study and acting technique. Additionally, I coach actors for auditions, as well as for film/TV and theater work.
