Introduction: I've been teaching in the LA area for 25 years. I'm also a session pro and live player who has done world wide tours. I love teaching many styles of music and as a session guy I have needed to be fluent in Classic and Modern Rock, Country, Blues and R&B.I have also worked as guitar coach for actors who needed to learn a piece for a scene they were doing. For those wishing to learn reading and theory we can do that as well. Some of you may just want to learn the basics so you can enjoy playing at a party or jamming in the garage.
I have the experience to teach guitar as well as other facets of the business. Some of my students have gone on to become touring stars as well. Whether you are just starting or seeking to improve your skills, I can help you get there.

I'm proud to call Doug my teacher. I first met him many years ago, when I wanted to step-up my guitar-playing ability beyond the 5 or 6 chords I knew. I told him that I knew I had a good player inside of me, and I needed the right teacher to take me to the next level. Eight years later, I am a much better player solely because of Doug (I still need him though!).
You won't find a more knowledgeable, experienced and patient teacher anywhere. His ability as a guitar player is staggering, and he generously fills you in on the tips, tricks and well-earned lessons that got him to such a high level. It doesn't hurt that he's one of the nicest and funniest people I know. If you love guitar playing, or you want to love playing guitar, get yourself over to Doug -- you'll be so happy you did.

First, I have been playing the guitar for 44 years. During this time I have had the great privilege of sitting and studying with, in my most humble opinion, several of the most incredibly talented guitarists on the planet.
That said, please allow me to recommend, to anyone who is looking for a teacher, Doug Macaskill, who I have personally known for 11 years and who I have also had the great privilege of sitting and studying with for a time.
Not only is Doug a guitarist of impeccable capabilities, with an ability to play and teach pretty much every genre of music, but he does it all with the most patient, kind, and understanding, nature.
If youre sincerely looking for a guitar teacher who can absolutely bring you to another level of playing, whether you're a beginner, intermediate, or you've been playing for 44 years, you honestly could not find a more knowledgeable, more humble, more professional, more skilled teacher, or more exquisite example of them all than Doug Macaskill.

Guitar lessons with Doug are outstanding. He accurately
evaluates your proficiency and takes you to the next level, or wherever you
want to go. Newcomers to guitar will learn the fundamentals from Doug and carry
them for life. He teaches at every level. People who played guitar in bands in
high school or college and want to get back into it will appreciate learning
from Doug and jamming with him. Even top professionals take lessons from Doug
to refine their skills. Just his knowledge of gear is staggering. Hard not to
appreciate a teacher who has toured internationally in bands, played with the
likes of Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Mr. Mister, and worked with top engineers for
four decades. Frankly I'd pay Doug just to hear his personal stories and
reflections on rock n' roll. The guy knows so much. And he can still play with
the best of them. Couldn't recommend him more highly.

I have been working with Doug for the last few months. I cannot imagine a better teacher for me. He is a really outstanding musician and music instructor. We have a great rapport, and every lesson is fun and challenging. Thanks thumbtack, you did it again!!
