From booking through job completion, air duct professionals made it very easy to work with them. The price was competitive, the crew was polite, professional, and worked efficiently. Many may question the value of cleaning air ducts, but especially after any sort of home renovation project, I believe it is worth it. Even though our floor installers covered our vents, it was obvious that so much dust had gotten into our ducts and after having them professionally vacuumed and cleaned, we can now breathe so much easier. They also vacuumed and cleaned the dryer vent. I highly recommend them.

The guys who came to replace my water heater were friendly and professional. They spent a lot of time sourcing the right, hard to find sized water heater that would work and vent best in the odd shaped "basement". A+, top notch, would recommend to a friend.

In all my remodeling projects that I did during the years, it was hard for me to even able saying that I really enjoyed the overall experience. Eyal delivered my remodeling project on time as we agreed in the project contract. All the people at the team that was working at my house, was professional, skilled, clean and productive. My remodeling project clearly proved that they are the most talented installers and workers. Eyal, informed me about each and any step of the way from the beginning to the end and I am very happy that I hired him for my house.

Rick was the first to bid on my project. Did it within seconds of posting. He was able to come over to my house within the hour, inspect the project and starting working on it! Price quoted was the price billed, even including some extra work. Also appreciated that Rick took photos of the work to be done before and after. It was on the roof, and so I didnt need to go up and check it out - had the photo proof instead. Cant beat that! Timely, friendly and stuck to the budget. I would refer and use Rick again. Thanks!

Reasonable, efficient and professional! After months of stress and inconvenience dealing with contractors who didn't show up, and others who overbid and exaggerated, it was such a relief to find Angelo. We had to ask them to come back and rebid the job because we forgot about another roof leak the first time. They gladly came back and adjusted (reasonably) to fit the extra work in. We scheduled within days, and yesterday morning they showed up on time. I was prepared for a loud and messy day, but was pleasantly surprised at how quiet and clean they were. They showed me the work after it was completed and everything looked great. They even did a couple extra things not mentioned. I'm so glad I didn't believe I needed to pay thousands to do a fairly simple job (regardless of the scare tactics). All we needed was someone who knew what they were doing. Excellent work. PS, They don't know but I work in Real Estate and agents are always emailing looking for honest roofing contractors (I tried this route before and failed). So I will be confidently referring them in the future!!

Contacted George with a list of projects I had in mind, but needed a price to see how much I could get done and what the costs would be. George came over to give me a quote and a breakdown of costs of each project and payment schedule, which I appreciated. We went ahead with the work. One of the bigger projects we had George and his team do was to knock down our existing patio and concrete and put up a new one. Old patio was 15' x 20' we did a new 15' x 40' patio. Very happy with the quality of work and the patio itself. Other projects include removing bulkhead and putting up new drywall, installing can lights, new roof, and putting up new doors. I was most impressed by two things - 1) the open communication between us, and 2) the professionalism and politeness from George and his workers. Even little hiccups were properly communicated and worked out. I will definitely be working with them again.

Complete re-roof around 2000 sq ft. Removed 3 layers of old roofing. Installed all new plywood, underlayment and Oakridge cool roof shingles. Handled permits and city inspections and completed job in 4 straight days and came back for final inspection following week. Cleaned up every day. Good price. Final roof looks great. Even painted all vents to match shingles. I hope to not have issues, but if I do I am hopeful and confident that Carlos will respond in timely manner to any maintenance requests. Great job, thank you, and will hire again if need be on another project.

I had a great experience working with Renovation Roofers on getting my new roof installed. I had just purchased the house and was overwhelmed with all of the little projects I had to get done, all while simultaneously moving my family in from our previous home. What made me choose this company was that the estimate I was given was very detailed and clearly addressed all of my concerns. They were able to start the project the following Monday and had everything finished by the end of that week. It was as hassle free as I would have hoped for. It allowed me to focus on the many other things I had to deal with. I’m very happy with the fast and professional service, thank you.

The team at GIM completed a whole home remodel with solar system. I was looking to make some energy efficient upgrades. My first home purchase and I was looking to invest a little on the interior since the home was a little out dated. They helped me to decide on what the interior finishes I wanted to go with. We ended up using spray foam for insulation, foam roof, and many other energy efficient upgrades. On top of that the solar system also comes with battery back up. Each step of the way I was informed, they even took care of the design and permit process. Great team on staff. Check them out for any construction needs. Appreciate all the hard work.

Woke up to a freezing house. Sometime throughout the night my Heater had stopped working. Checked out the thermostat and it read the Heat was ON. Checked the vents and felt cold air blowing. Not exactly the kind of problem I want when my wife and I are expecting our first baby in less than a month. A friend of mine recommended we give Able Air Conditioning a call. Made the call at 8:30am. In less than an hour they sent a tech named Ivan. Nice guy. Came in, took a look at the problem. Gave me a quick estimate. Gave him the okay. He fixed it, and by 9:45am my house was warm and more importantly my wife was happy again. Before he left he gave me a few tips on how to maintain my heating unit so that I can save money on my utility bills. I would recommend him and Able Air Conditioning to anyone and everyone.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
