This was an odd project where we wanted to use a large Bukara knotted carpet as wall to wall. We are builders ourselves but no carpet people wanted to touch the project. Dennis got to me right away after I posted on Thumbtack-my first time- and talked me through the project with advice that we took and it came out fantastic. We had one long phone call and two shorter ones re various tools and details. We talked enough about Marmoleum and carpet that now I have a new and for real flooring outfit for our projects.

I had my carpet changed by Alfonso. He is very professional, efficient and responsiveness. And the most important is the reasonable pricing. I checked more than five carpet company, Alfonso's is the cheapest one and saved me $70. The room I changed carpet is kind small, some companies seem don't care or don't even response my message. However Alfonso is been professional and patient all the time. I will definitely recommend him.

Bogdan was able to come the next morning to help us with our faucet install and a minor deck repair. He identified a valve under the sink that also needed to be replaced and went out to grab the replacement part for us on the spot. He was on time, had great communication and did everything we asked!

Fred is great. Friendly, professional, and quick to respond to my inquiries. Background: I had a very overwhelming carpet issue - my landlord tried to clean the carpets, but the person (aka friend) he hired didn't do it properly. The carpet was left sitting wet for 5 days, which meant that the carpet smelled strongly of mildew. It was disgusting. I then paid for the carpets to be re-cleaned, but that didn't help as the carpets were already ruined. This is where Fred came in. I put in a request for carpet installation thinking I may have to pay for the carpets to be swapped if my landlord didn't give in. Fred gave me a reasonable quote over the phone (should I choose to change the carpets) and also spent time advising me on how to approach the conversation with my landlord. This was super helpful and gave me confidence to push for what I knew was right - swapping the mildewy carpets for fresh ones. I didn't end up hiring Fred as my landlord finally agreed to change the carpets, and used another friend of his for the carpet installation. That said, Fred went above and beyond to help me in this stressful situation and for that I'm super thankful. Thanks Fred!

Mike accommodated for me on a Sunday and went to the location with the plumbing issue, diagnosed it, went to Home Depot on my behalf, purchased a replacement faucet and installed it without issues. Being I live in another state, it was great being able to trust Mike to do the job without me being there.

I wanted to replace the carpet in entryway with vinyl (area ~ 60 sq feet). It was a small job but (1) I don't know how to do it, (2) I live in a condo and needed to submit an application to HOA for the job. They required a contractor with license and insurance. So many places turned me down because the job was too small, but not Luxor Floors! Patrick responded to my ad on Thumbtack.com. He was very professional - responsive and serious about the work. Didn't treat it like a peanut gig because of the size. He came to my unit within a few days to take measurements. I was very impressed by his sincerity and decided to replace the old (and ugly) flooring in the kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom with the same vinyl to match the entry way (kind of weird to have one pattern in the entrance but a different one in other areas). It took a while to get HOA approval, but Patrick was very patient the whole time. Finally the job was scheduled and performed. Even though Patrick was not on site, he was very responsive when I had questions while the work was being performed. He wanted to make sure things occurred correctly. When my friends came to visit and saw the new flooring, they were amazed! Too bad the previous owner of my condo just replaced the carpet right before the sale, or else I would certainly have Luxor Floors to replace it. Collaboration down the road for sure :)

The floor coverings international crew were great to work with from start to finish. They were through to help us understand all aspects of our quote and any costs or process details. The team who installed were punctual, communicative and is great work. The follow up after the work was completed was a terrific final touch to ensure we got everything we needed taken care of. They also helped us match other flooring in our house and provided a super quick turnaround in our tight timeline to get our bathroom subfloor replaced.

It was my lucky day finding Zeus online... The kitchen countertops set up by the previous owner were ugly and unstable in places, and I needed them redone before visitors arrived. I liked their portfolio, i just hoped their work stood up to it, and quick... Well it sure did! Jesse immediately sourced a great-looking, durable and surprisingly inexpensive replacement. The finish is modern and practical, and it really transforms the kitchen. I get so many compliments! Their attention to detail is commendable, especially given how darn fast these guys work. Jesse and his crew did this in a few hours, even carving a new custom handle treatment for the lower cabinet doors. When he offered to take on raising the stovetop hood next (previous owner was a midget!) I trusted him that they wouldn't still be wrestling with it days later when those guests were due. Again, so glad I did. They did it in a day, re-wiring and everything. No more bumping my head when I look into my cooking pots! Next up, they're building a little studio for me, to be cut into the hillside just below the house... With Jesse's clever design and materials, he's managing to keep this affordable without looking "budget"... I'm excited! I recommend Jesse for his style-conscious, resourceful, and unique remodeling approaches. He and his Zeus team do beautiful work, built to last.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is the cheapest carpet?

If you’re looking to reduce carpet installation costs, there are several ways to save. Start by considering your carpeting needs. Manufactured materials such as polyester and nylon will be cheaper than natural fibers such as wool. From big box retailers, starting prices for olefin-based carpet are approximately 50 cents per square foot — making the cost under $5 per square yard. Indoor carpets made with olefin fibers are typically the least expensive on the market. Keep in mind that olefin fibers are not as soft on bare feet as other fibers, so are often used in areas like basements, playrooms or indoor patios. Nylon and polyester are good options to reduce carpet installation costs while still creating a cozy feel. The face weight, fiber construction and density of a carpet all affect the cost per square foot. The cheapest nylon or polyester carpets can start at just under $2 per square foot, making them about $18 per square yard. Lower-cost carpet tends to wear out more quickly and show stains more easily, so avoid light colors and vacuum regularly to keep the fibers clear of dirt that might age it too quickly.

How much does it cost to install carpet?

If you’re ready to bring new life into your house with a makeover from the ground up, you’re ready to learn more about carpet installation costs. Installation costs vary greatly, depending on a number of factors such as the type of carpet, the number of square yards, any necessary repair work, the number of stairs you have, and where you live. Due to these variables, the national average cost of carpet installation ranges between $200 and $4,500.

To start planning for your new carpet, measure roughly how many square yards of carpet you’ll need. Research the main carpet styles and materials you like to get a feel for what they cost. Nylon carpets are typically the least expensive, and wool is one of the higher-end carpets. Prices per square foot might range from under $2 to over $10, depending on materials. Count the number of stairs you want carpeted; each one might average between $3 and $10 (or more for box steps). Carpet removal can be an added cost as well, averaging $1-$4 per square yard, depending on the company and regional disposal costs.

How much does it cost to carpet a bedroom?

If you’re building a new home, remodeling, or ready for new carpet in your bedroom, you’ll want to know carpet installation costs. Here are the factors that affect the cost of your new bedroom carpet:

      • Installation cost per square yard: From under $2 to over $6. Carpet companies have a labor cost per square foot for installing your new carpet. Depending on where you live in the country, that rate can vary greatly. This rate does not include the cost of the carpet.
      • Type of carpet: from $1 per square foot to $20 or more per square foot. The fibers that make up your carpet will have a direct effect on cost. As an example, specialty wool carpets may start at about $10 per square foot, while a manufactured fiber like nylon may be about $2 per square foot.
      • Removal of old carpet: from $1 to $4 per square yard. Old carpet is labor-intensive to remove and also costs money to dispose of or recycle. The cost to remove carpet will depend on how much carpet you need removed and whether your installation pros offer a discounted rate for installing your new carpet at the same time.
      • Subfloor repair: from $40 to $70 per hour (plus materials cost). If the flooring underneath your old carpet is damaged, it must be repaired before the new carpet is installed. Many carpet pros can offer this service, or you can hire a handyman to handle the job.
      • Type of carpet pad: $1 per square yard and up, depending on the thickness. The cost to install carpet pad is typically included with the labor cost per yard of installing the carpet itself.

How much does it cost to install carpet on stairs?

The number of stairs you want carpeted in your home will directly affect your carpet installation cost. Putting carpet on stairs generally increases the labor time and requires a higher degree of detail than laying carpet flat. Where you live in the country also plays a role in your carpet installation cost. Carpet installation companies in smaller towns with a lower cost of living and a lower cost to do business (insurance, company vehicles, employee labor, etc.) can usually offer their customers lower rates than companies in large cities where the cost of living and the cost to do business are higher. Carpet pros will often quote you a flat rate per stair once they do a site visit to provide an estimate. They’ll take into account the size of each stair you want carpeted (including both the step and the riser), and what type of stair it is. For example, the cost might range between $3 and $10 per stair for labor only. On the higher end of the spectrum, box stairs or staircase stairs with spindles that must be worked around might cost between $15 and $25 per stair.
