John Linneball helped me with SAT tutoring, especially in the math sections. The sessions took place at my house every week, but if ever there was a problem, communication was made easy through email. He really helped me and we clocked in many hours of math exercises. Not to mention, he gave me suggestions on what I should work on during my alone time.

John Bertinetti helped me study for the GMAT exam over the summer of 2017 with concentrated sessions to review GMAT Quant. John got me started on a study path by sharing info about the best study resources for my problem areas, and would meet with me once or twice a week to go over key Quant problems that I needed help solving. John is an ideal tutor for students who are good at keeping themselves on track without a structured curriculum. Great value, flexible scheduling, and clear explanations of problems are all huge wins with him. About halfway through the summer, I realized that I needed a structured class and more discipline to keep myself on schedule, so I supplemented my study sessions with John with an independent online class with a live teacher. Key lessons w/John: John is all about understanding the concepts behind a problem before sharing tricks; his method is great for learners like me who need to understand the math conceptually and don't want to just memorize formulas. We did a lot of work on combinatorics and probability, which were my challenge areas. He was a great and affordable supplemental resource for me beyond the class. Results: I went from a 580 on my Manhattan GMAT diagnostic to a 730 score on the actual GMAT after 3 months of light study followed by 2 months of intense study.

As a Math tutor Sherill is very supportive and has encouraged me to keep trying, even when a times I feel that math is a mystery than can not be resolved. She also is punctual, attentive to my own doubts and bring materials to make the lessons more understadable.

Bryce is an excellent GRE tutor. When I first started studying for the test, I was overwhelmed, confused and frustrated by just opening my practice book. I hadn't taken a math or English course in years. Bryce helped ease those fears and boosted my confidence. After the initial meeting, I knew that he would be a great tutor for me. I continued seeing Bryce for tutoring in the weeks before my test. We practiced strategies and how to approach a difficult problem. Knowing the strategies for the GRE is extremely helpful. You can memorize ten thousand vocabulary words (as I attempted), but until you know how to approach the problem, hammering in definitions won't be much help. Bryce taught me the strategies necessary and had confidence in me all the way. He is intelligent, reliable, and benevolent (great GRE word!). I would absolutely recommend Bryce to anyone looking for a tutor, especially with the GRE. It can be a daunting test, but given the help I received from Bryce, I went in on test day feeling confident that I could pass (and I did!).

I am happy to write a review for Dale, as my daughter and I have had a wonderful first meeting and lesson. Dale immediately made my daughter comfortable in her academic abilities and encouraged her to believe she can reach her goals. My daughter is starting her preparations to take the SAT's , and has an ambition to attend a top tier college. Dale set out a plan that includes both lessons and homework that if followed should get her the results. I am confident in Dales abilities and his professionalism and have hired on an ongoing basis. My son has been going to Dhivya for math tutoring for about 6 months for 1.5 hours per week. During this time, he has gained a lot of confidence in his math abilities. His math grades at school have greatly improved. Dhivya knows how to teach the math so that he understands it, and she is patient with him. I highly recommend her as a tutor.

Darya tutored and advised me throughout my senior year of high school and my first year at college. Having Darya by my side throughout the stress of a year and a half journey has had a significant impact in my life. Although Darya's main responsibility was to tutor me for my Advanced Placement (AP) Literature class, she went above and beyond to what I expected of an English tutor. She helped me find my inner voice as a writer through tutoring me about grammar, organization, and vocabulary. She also helped boost my confidence as an underprivileged Latina studying in the STEM field as a computer science major at the University of California: Santa Cruz. I passed both my AP Government and AP Literature classes and tests which is significant because both required a heavy amount of analytical writing; I graduated high school with honors and with the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA), 3.7, at any time of my academic career. One week before I was going to take my SAT for the third time, I mentioned to Darya that I was struggling understanding a large portion of the Math section of the test. To my surprise, she was thoroughly capable skilled in tutoring me in math, along with English. In less than seven days, Darya was able to successfully prepare me for my last SAT test; subsequently, my SAT score improved by more than 100 points. If we had more time to go through the preparation book, I could have further surpassed this amazing progress. Another aspect in which Darya supported me in my college application and preparation process was in guiding me to refine my college essays for both private and public universities: as a result, I was accepted to more than half of the colleges that I applied to. Finally, I am most grateful for Darya and her efforts towards my success because of the high number of scholarships that I received in the second semester of my senior year in high school. Through Darya’s excellent editing and writing abilities, I was able to accumulate more than $200,000 in scholarship rewards from four different organizations. I could never have imagined this much triumph before meeting Darya; without these scholarship awards, I would have been forced to work during my breaks and during school to afford a college education. Now, all that I have to worry about is learning as much as I can while I am at UCSC. On account of my strong achievements in less than a year with Darya, I still utilize the many tips and lessons that she has instilled in me. As a result of this, I excelled in my classes at UCSC with a cumulative GPA of 3.6. Because of my outstanding academic success in the first quarter of college, I was exclusively invited by the university to apply to the College Scholars Program; this two-year program selects 20 students out of about 200 students applying from each college at UCSC to help give them meaningful academic challenges. Not only do I recognize Darya as one of the most significant people in my life because of my solid academic accomplishments, but also due to the genuine passion she holds to be sure that her tutees succeed. As her tutee, she constantly reminded me of my own abilities to encourage my confidence. We are still in contact today which further demonstrates her enthusiasm for her tutees. She is evidently benevolent, motivated, and intelligent, and I highly recommend her tutoring and guidance talents to any student who is fortunate enough to be her tutee.

Dylan has been a great tutor and has gone the extra mile to develop new innovative techniques/language to help our son blossom. Specifically he has helped overcome challenges with math, word problems, handwriting and multi-step problems. Dylan also communicates regularly with our son's school teacher which is invaluable. Finally as a family with two working parents who travel a great deal he is totally reliable, a great communicator and flexible.

I hired Alex to tutor me on the quantitative section of the GRE. I had already taken the GRE twice and was looking to increase my score from a 161 to at least a 165. We met 7 times for 1.5 to 2 hour sessions. Alex was great! She set up a very intensive study plan for me and was very flexible about when we met! I ended up increasing my score to a 167 when I took the test! I highly recommend her to anyone looking to improve their GRE or GMAT math scores!

Dan is a great math tutor. He is patient and knowledgeable. He leads you to the solution but does not tell you the solution. He makes you figure it out by encouraging your own abilities to problem solve. I received tutoring for the CSET Math test and I was very impressed with Dan.

Ayesha was great tutor for me. She really helped me understand my math lesson and explained things more than one way. She was very helpful by reviewing some stuff from previous lessons that we had gone over. She also gave me some tips to remember the steps for some equations. I am thankful for the time she gave up to help me.

Sylvia is tutoring my daughters in Spanish. They never had Spanish before, and when they moved to a new school, the level of Spanish is very advance for someone who never had the lessons. Sylvia works with them in getting them up to speed. In a short time, both my children had become comfortable in following the lesson at school, and I have noticed that both of them have made quite significant improvements. My oldest daughter tells me that once she is comfortable with her Spanish, she wants to start French with Sylvia. I am sure that if either of my kids need tutoring in Math, Sylvia would be the one we go to. If your child or children need extra help in academic, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you call Sylvia. My children are very happy with how she teaches. Sylvia is also opens to different approaches in teaching. If my kids want more challenge, all they have to do is tell Sylvia and she will give them challenging lessons.

If math sounds synonymous with dancing naked in a conga line at the wedding of your second cousin, then you definitely need Kick Ass Tutors. Much like the naked conga, math for me is an awkward long forgotten series of patterns and moves that I only tried rarely and with much taunting and embarrassment. Insert my future. It now depends on a complex mathematical dance that I have yet to master. I consider my options: 1) a high priced test preparation factory, 2) a stack of heavy books that will be later used as the legs to a coffee table or 3) a random I find on craigslist to tutor me. I'm not sure if the classroom style test prep I'll receive at a big name corp is worth the value of a gold coin. I'm also not sure if I'm disciplined or savvy enough to navigate a labyrinth of test prep books on my own. Initially, I choose option 3. I've had lots of math tutors and my craigslist find was particularly abysmal. He had never taken the GRE and was a scholar equivalent to John Nash (i.e. see film "A Beautiful Mind"). Not only was my craigslist friend as perceptibly brilliant, but also taught me math in a similar method to the aforementioned film and savant-- which equated to a series of murmurings, scribbles and assurances that what I was learning was rather simple. Ack. Unfortunately, the numbers just wouldn't float in front of me and I decided to see what else I could do to prepare. After much googling and panic, I discover "Kick Ass Tutors" on thumbtack and meet up with Karim. Equally brilliant, but far more articulate than the former Nash understudy-- Karim offered clear step by step instructions and more personalized attention than I would have received with a more well-know test prep company. He also knew the GRE, had a set curriculum and was able to successfully get me to do the mathematical tango. All in all, save your time and your wallet and go with KickAssTutors. Karim is a mathematical rock star, but an even better teacher. Highly recommended!

I asked Steven to help tutor me in Calculus, he did an amazing job. We went over my lesson and then always did practice problems and he would help me with my homework if I needed it. My grade definitely went up in that class. My only recommendation would be to be able to meet for a little longer if possible. But overall he was a huge help, and he made the math seem easier and I was more confident in doing my work on my own.
