Introduction: Saxophone lessons are available for students of all ages and abilities. Students will learn to improve their tone, technique, reading, and improvisation abilities. They will also learn the proper care and maintenance techniques required for saxophone upkeep. Composition lessons are available to any musician interested in learning or improving their compositional voice. Students will become familiar with compositional tools, music theory, exercises, computer notation software, and will write their own original pieces of music. They will also listen to and analyze the works of the great masters of music. Music theory lessons are available to any musician regardless of instrument or voice. Students will study and master the fundamentals of music theory in order to better understand how music works and be able to listen critically. This is perfect for students studying AP Music Theory. I hold a Master of Music degree in composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree in saxophone performance from the University of Redlands. I am currently the Music instructor at Maybeck High School in Berkeley teaching Band, Music Appreciation, and Music Production techniques. I love watching my students grow as musicians. To be able to reflect on their achievements since they started their lessons is an invaluable experience.

I've been taking saxophone lessons from Mario for close to 2 years now; I am an adult (complete) beginner with limited time to practice. I have learned a lot from my lessons with Mario (of course, if I practiced more I would make faster progress, but music has to take a back seat to my other obligations) and I will be continuing to take lessons with him. I definitely recommend Mario - he listens to you play and shows and tells you what you are doing wrong and how to correct it. Elements such as embouchure, tone quality, articulation, sense of rhythm, etc, are things for which you really need a teacher by your side who can observe you and show you where and how you need to improve, and Mario really helps me in these areas.

Mario has been teaching sax to my 11-year old daughter for a little over a year now. I would highly recommend him without hesitation. From my daughter's perspective, she likes Mario because he picks fun pieces to play that also sound cool, picks lots of duets, has good methods for when I am having trouble with playing something such as repetitiveness, working backward, and playing a similar exercise, not only teaches me alternate fingerings for notes but also when to use them and why I need to know them, tells me a lot about the music theory of the sax between playing and is open to questions. From my perspective, his expert musicianship, his patient and thorough teaching, his flexibility and punctuality and his obvious love for music and sax are enough to make him an excellent choice for any student.

Mario is a phenomenal saxophonist and a gifted educator. We have performed together countless times, and taught together at Martin Luther King High School. I have witnessed several of his students see tremendous improvement in their playing ability and dexterity after just a short time under his tutelage. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer two price options: $55 for 45 minutes, and $65 for an hour. These are prices for lessons at my private studio or residence, but I may be able to travel to students for an additional cost depending on time and distance.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance from the University of the Redlands and a Master of Music degree in Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I am also a Middle School and High School music director teaching classes in Music Appreciation, Performance, jazz, rock, and electronic music.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Music is my greatest passion. By teaching music lessons, I want to be able to help others shape their lives in the way that music has helped shape mine.
