Dan reached out to me and offered wedding dance private lessons. He had a very thoughtful list of questions asking beforehand in better preparing himself for the first lesson (which is awesomely free!!). I decided on him since he left me with great impression of customizing to my need & being extremely accommodating. I had fun taking lessons with him. Dan is very patient (and an amazing dancer) to students, and gives very clear instruction especially considering I am just a beginner. I feel comfortable having him as my teacher and will consider hiring him again for future ballroom private lessons! Highly recommended if you are looking for an instructor who can tailor to what you need & offer great instructions!
Erin is amazing! I wanted to up my dancing game, and I searched the internet to find someone to help me do that. After reaching out to Erin through Thumbtack, she responded back very quickly and answered all of my questions well. Halfway into the first session, I knew I made an excellent choice for Erin to be my dance instructor. She’s friendly, has a great sense of humor, is articulate, is fun... and this gal seriously knows how to dance and how to teach it. I felt immmediately comfortable with Erin, which is super important when you’re learning how to do some new moves! I happily purchased a package of 6 classes with her - and now after finishing 4 of them, I’m sure I’ll continue with more lessons with her after that. Learning to dance with Erin is an excellent choice. Highly recommended!
These two wonderful people is like being taught to dance by your best friend. They both have the ability like any good coach to watch what you're doing and correct your style in a way that's relaxed and fun. They both have group classes that are spectacular. The day after you go to one of their classes you can definitely feel the difference in your dance right away. It's like they've given you something that cannot be taken away. You own it now and you can use it every time you're on the dance floor. I've taken lessons from many dance instructors in the Bay Area but both of these great instructors have unique ability to convey complicated styling and dance patterns in a relaxed and fun way. Basically you leave their class sweaty and tired but invigorated.
My family has started lessons with Juan Carlos, and we're happy we found him. He's a patient teacher who structures lessons based on each student's progression and skill set. He also teaches the "right" way, i.e. fundamentals, thereby setting up students for success. It also helps that he's a nice guy and is extremely responsive with scheduling etc.
We went to Ruth to prepare for our wedding dance. She was great to work with and really knows her stuff. She helped us choose a dance that perfectly fit our music. After several lessons and, unfortunately, not enough time practicing, we are very confident about our dance that we'll be doing this Saturday on our wedding day. The whole process was really fun and was actually a very constructive process for us. Ruth is great!
Over the years I have received instruction from Donna through piano lessons and participation in various choirs she has conducted. I am impressed with her knowledge, expertise, kindness, and patience. I am especially thankful for the way I have been instructed to sing so that I do not harm my voice....and in the piano instruction that includes education in the instrument - its history and how it works - and arm and hand technique when playing.
We took dance lessons from Alpa for our first dance at our wedding reception. She choreographed the whole thing and even asked us for our input and offered to let us change things based on comfort and preference. She did a great job though and me being the control freak that I am, I'm surprised that I didn't have a single change request! Let me stress that neither one of us are dancers and I was very worried about doing the dance in front of so many of our friends and family. But Alpa was so patient with us and made us feel so comfortable. We feel like we've known her for years yet we just met her a couple weeks ago! We learned the dance in two lessons and we will be back for our final lesson next week just to practice in front of her with my 25 lb lehenga and heels. If you need dance lessons of any kind, she is your girl! Thank you, Alpa! We are so thrilled that you will be a part of our big day in such a big way.
Marla is a wonderful teacher. I was looking for someone who specializes in classical vocal training and she was perfect. I've had 4 lessons so far and am learning a lot about the mechanics of proper diaphragm usage, placements in order to produce the ideal sound. One thing to remember about learning any instrument (and yes, your voice is an instrument!) is that you won't master it overnight or even over the course of a couple of months. It takes time, practice, and perseverance. So far Marla has been an excellent teacher and I look forward to continue working with her.
I was nervous about beginning dance lessons, but after a few lessons with Desiree I feel comfortable and confident dancing with anyone. Desiree is professional and very enthusiastic, and she made our lessons really fun! I had a great experience with her and recommend it to everyone!
I have really enjoyed working with Liz this past year. The techniques that she teaches not only elevate your singing skills, but also improve overall vocal quality and performance. Liz is great about addressing all aspects of the vocal experience, and still making it fun to learn and improve!
Jessica is an excellent dancing tutor, I have a lot of fun with her tutoring session. She has taught me the moving techniques and basic dancing skills. I really enjoy to work with her, I can't wait to start another dancing tutoring sessions with her again. Awesome experience and she will teach you alot if you continue to take lessons with her. You are just great teacher, Jessica!
As a nervous, first-time-vocal-lesson-taker, I believe Patricia's teaching is exceptional. I started looking for a vocal teacher to help with my goals of improving tone and range. I expected that it was going to be a worthwhile but potentially boring/painful investment of time and effort that will pay off in slight improvement far in the future. I did not expect to enjoy vocal lessons a lot, but now I look forward to Patricia's lessons as a highlight of my week. She is a natural teacher and truly understands my needs as a student. She has an outstanding ability to recognize the best way to explain concepts to the student, and will dynamically adjust her explanations when something isn't sticking quite right. Best of all, she shows genuine excitement and pride when she notices improvement. Her positivity and encouragement has really helped my nervousness and anxiety in singing in front of other people. My singing quality has improved greatly over just a few lessons so far. I can't wait to see how it improves with Patricia's instruction over the next few months, years, etc. It can be hard to find a good teacher in any subject. Patricia's students are lucky to have found a top class teacher.
I’ve been singing now for just over 20 years, working with different instructors from my high school chorus teachers, to my voice instructor in college to vocal lessons by CD. NONE have been able to get the best out of me like Liz has. Her understanding of how different voices work is the greatest strength every vocal instructor should strive for. In just two sessions with her, I feel and hear a vast improvement in how my voice sounded before her and after her. So to anyone who’s looking for an instructor who works with YOU and not someone who teaches the same lessons to everyone they work with, Liz Patterson is the one you want to work with!
Emily is wonderful. She helped me so much in just two lessons as I was preparing for a performance. Not only does she have great technical knowledge - she also has a warm, supportive, and therapeutic presence, which helps with gaining confidence and reducing nerves. :) I'd recommend her to anyone!
Chris is a really good musician and teacher. Some musicians are so good they forget what it's like to 'not know'. Chris can be with you, where you're at even though he is a highly skilled player. His patience is very encouraging. It's inspiring to take lessons with him and to remember we all NEED music!
Great singing lessons! Margaret obviously knows what she is doing and helped me improve my singing skills that I use for musical theater. She is also friendly and made the lessons fun. I can't recommend Margaret highly enough!
Mark is the best voice teacher I have ever worked with. He is very invested in his students and genuinely passionate about helping people learn the right technique and unlock the full potential of their voices. I especially appreciate that he's patient, thorough, systematic, and great at explaining technique with visualizations/metaphors. I started hearing differences in how I was singing within the first month of working with him. I've now been taking lessons with Mark for seven months, and he's helped me overcome issues with my singing that I've had for many years, that I didn't think were fixable. Thank you for everything, Mark!
Leah Diamond is a loving and dedicated mentor. Her lessons are highly personalized and leave me with no doubts that she is giving me her full attention. I always feel safe to be emotionally vulnerable, a feeling that I have come to learn is a key part of growing as an actor. Although she focuses a lot on the more abstract concepts of becoming a good actor, Leah is also very knowledgeable when it comes to the concrete aspects of the business. She aided me in building a better resume and helped me connect to networks where I can market myself in order to work and gain experience. She is extremely adept at fostering growth through personal exploration, creativity, and imagination. I am a better and more confident performer thanks to Leah!
Alivia is a fantastic teacher. She tailors the lessons to my daughters voice and ability while also encouraging her to push herself. She incorporates theory and performance into the lesson plan. She is a fantastic teacher.
Andreina was great! As someone who has never taken a private dance lesson and has always been a bit shy when it comes to partner dance, I quickly overcame that with Andreina. She is patient and skilled, and constantly wearing a radiant smile on her face. I learned the history of Salsa and its cultural importance along side the basic steps and movements. I will definitely be returning for more lessons. 💃
Jessica is a caring and talented teacher. Together with her staff at the Diablo Valley Arts Academy we have had a fabulous experience. They do much more than offer lessons. They are building a community for sharing with recitals, concerts and workshops.
