Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I have vast, unique and varied experience of design in many different fields - from Computer Graphics, Film, TV, Advertising and Editorial work to landscape and figurative painting. In addition to my Bachelors degree in Graphic Design and Illustration I have a Masters Degree in Human Computer Interaction, which covers both coding and interface design and rationale. In addition to this I have many years of experience working with client specifications and tight deadlines/ budgets, both on my own and as part of a team. Not only do I have the UX knowledge skills to understand what a design needs to do - ie how it can best be suited to its purpose, but I have the technical skills to implement it and the artistic skills to make any design or artwork really pleasing on a purely visual level. I get great pleasure and satisfaction from creating designs that work superbly both on a visual and practical level, whether this applies to websites, web graphics or designs for print. I also love meeting new people and doing a variety of work, which is why I love working freelance or on short contracts. Above all, when I know someone else is happy with the work I've done for them, it makes me supremely happy!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I do whatever I can do to stay on top of the most current concepts and developments, although it would be a full time job in itself to know all the changes going on in design, web design, web development, UX/UI, responsive design etc etc!

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Show art for Cal Shakes, for upcoming Mike Daisey one man show, "The Great Tragedies: Mike Daisey takes on Shakespeare." I had a very short time (couple of hours) not only to create this but to design it from scratch and it was one of those jobs where everything came together, the concept, the inspiration and the design. One of the things Mike Daisey had written was that he wanted something you would not expect from a show about Shakespeare and I really think I achieved that with a bold and unusual design.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Do you like the feeling you get when you look at work (whatever it is) that a provider has done? Does it suit the purpose? Does it feel balance? Fresh? Practical? The last is important - I've seen many funky designs/websites that just don't work - either they're illegible or they are too complicated to be functional. Good design should, above all, be suited to the purpose it's there for! Be willing to take a risk on someone who may have limited experience in one area, but has great examples of work in a similar field. When someone is trying to move into a new area, that's when you get great deals as a client!
