Pros: Did a good job cleaning windows (5 stars), even the skylight on the roof that is pretty hard to get to Personable/friendly Easy to schedule Cons: Major disconnect on the price. As one other reviewer pointed out, they count window panes as windows and Maria did not say anything on the phone or asked any questions as I described the job to her. As the result, the actual cost was much higher than what was quoted. Still a reasonable price, but certainly not cheap.

Vyron With his crew-Marco and Pablo did their jobs well. Painting the window trims and baseboards, doors, garage as well as caulking were time consuming but they paid attention to detail. We had wanted to change the roman tub faucet trim but it was unreachable from the access door. In the end, we had to create another acccess door, modify the plumbing. The results were great and we have a beautiful chrome Faucet in place.

Gustavo and his team has diligently converted a jungle infested with weed and thorny blackberries into a paradise. They exceeded my expectations. Before my backyard was a pain to look at. Now my room has a view. A shining red patio with cute shrubs and pebble as centerpiece lays next to a patch of green grass. Not only that, I also have a place to enjoy sunshine and breeze with a glass of wine. Thank you pros!

I hired Jasper from My Apartment Is Better Than Yours. I think they did a terrific job at a very reasonable price. I'm really pleased that I decided to go with them. I had a number of unusual carpentry tasks to complete when I moved to my new place. The windows were old and the wood was irregular and moldy, so the wood around the antique glass panels needed to be replaced. I was told those windows hadn't been opened in 40 years, but now they work perfectly and you'd never know the wood wasn't original. Also, several doorways lacked doors when I moved in, and were unusual rounded shapes cut into the stucco without doorframes. Jasper was able to make me custom doors with antique iron-wrought handles, and they look awesome. I also needed threshholds worked on, cabinets put up, new benches made for my roof deck, a custom projector and screen put in, antique chandeliers installed, a lock repaired... and I'm probably forgetting one or two things. They are in the process of putting the finishing touches on my humidor (they had to build me custom legs for it), and it's going to look spectacular. Anyway, they knocked it all out of the park. They were prompt and clean and didn't cause much of a disturbance despite all the work they were doing. They'll be my go-to for anything I need done in the future. I definitely recommend them.

I hired Solar-Klean for interior window washing, cleaning the window tracks and to remove mold around the frames. Phillip was professional, answered my questions and I felt very comfortable working with him. Overall he did a good job on the windows and mold. My only grievance is that he only cleaned half of the window tracks. Tracks were cleaned with window in closed position but not in the open position. But I would still consider him for future jobs.

MG windows are true professionals who provide the best customer service. The owner identified some issues with the siding at my house and offered suggestions on solving the problem. Initially a friend recommended a different windows and company to install. I expressed my concerns with Melki who conducted research of his own and reported back to me his findings. I love love love the windows and already the house is warmer than with the pre-existing windows. Melki offers a warranty and is adamant about ensuring the finish product is up to par. I enjoyed working with him and have already recommended him to my friend who has had a terrible experience with the company he used. Thank you Melki I will be calling you for other home projects!!

Our remodeling was done remotely, and yet we were thrilled with the end result. Lifetime Remodeling provided us with the highest quality of work and costumer service. Lifetime remodeling brought their structural engineer, completed blue prints, got the plans approved with the city, and orchestrated all the professionals. The work included taking down walls, electrical work, building a pantry and a walk-in closet, repositioning a supporting beam, enlarging windows, creating a bar, painting walls and cabinets, changing bathroom floors, installing kitchen backsplash, hardwood flooring installation and refinishing, and more. Shmuel and the team were very receptive to all our requests and easy to communicate with. The job was completed within the planned budget and time frame. They truly care about doing the best for their clients, and it shows. Highly recommended.

We went from framed to frameless shower enclosure and when the old glass was removed, we quickly realized we needed to make tile repair prior to installing the new glass. We decided to have a different company make the repair. Owner, Michael Compton of Compton Construction quickly responded to my Thumbtack post, set up an estimate appointment and provided me with an estimate the same day. A repair appointment was set up immediately and all was repaired, cleaned up and perfect in just one visit. This was a smooth and fast repair. Michael is great to do business with. He's easy going and easy to communicate with. I highly recommend Michael Compton Construction and will certainly use them again. Five gold stars!!! So happy to find Compton on Thumbtack. (I'd like to add that I received several/max quotes and decided on Compton Construction). -Happy home owner

Ryan responded within an hour or two of posting and came right over to take a look at our broken window. After heading back out to get a freshly cut piece of glass and his tools, it was a quick job - less than an hour - to replace the pane. He did a beautiful job; I can hardly tell the difference from before. He also left me with a razor blade to clean up one or two places where paint was left on the glass once it dried; I thought that was a nice touch.

Mike and his team were professional and took great care of our outdoor spaces. We have several decks and some white stucco walls that needed a good cleaning, and they looked sparkly and new when they were done. They also washed our glass and windows. I’ll definitely be hiring them again.

Rafael is very professional. I hired him for a number of projects, such as installing dishwasher, range hood, kitchen faucet, door locks, garbage disposal, outdoor light fixtures, fixing windows handle, etc. He did amazing job and quality work. For example, previous cabinet is 36in (two 18in doors). Rafael installed 24in dishwasher and made a 12in door like the original cabinet. It is really amazing. When he finished his work everyday, he always cleaned everything up. He also cares about details. I would like to recommend him to everyone, and I would like to hire him again for my future projects.

Eduardo replaced one of the 15 custom windows in our front door. He was incredibly responsive, professional, and so polite. My wife commented that the framing of the window he installed looks way cleaner and better than the original ones. We look forward to using him for future projects!

Eduardo was very prompt in responding to my request for a bid which we accepted. He also called the night before to confirm the time that they would arrive. They did a very through job in cleaning all of our windows. It is an Eichler, so not just a matter of doing several small pieces of glass and then you are done.

Glad to have Algis to install the curtain rods and tv wall mount. There was an issue at the first try, he encountered something very hard behind the wall in the living room. And he continued to try different ways to solve it, but he believed he didn’t bring the right tools so he promised he would come back another day to fix this for me for free. For the other places including the tv wall mount, things all went smoothly. And after two days, he came back as promised and successfully fixed the only issue! Impressing! The total time is 3 hours for 5 windows (including 3 big ones) and a tv wall mount.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is commercial window cleaning?

The national average cost to clean windows is $120-$170. Typically, window washing for commercial spaces costs less per window than residential window washing, but has a higher overall price because the greater number of windows. Commercial window cleaning companies may charge a standard rate per window — for example, $3 to clean the exterior only, with a higher rate of $4 or $5 to also clean the interior. There may be an additional charge, such as an extra $1 per window, for scrubbing off water stains or deep-cleaning window tracks. Double-hung windows require more labor and will therefore cost more to clean. Companies may charge a flat rate, such as $8 per double-hung window or $9 per French door, to account for the added work. Building height will play a factor in window washing costs. Standard cleaning for one- and two-story buildings will typically stay within the same range, but cleaning high-rise windows may entail special safety permits and equipment, which would increase costs. Your location will also affect window washing costs. Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost to do business will have lower window cleaning rates than large cities.
