About
My work is different because of the diversity of materials I have at my disposal. I am conversant with a number of cultures, traditions, styles and subjects. My storytelling is informative, humorous, and relevant to current issues. My event planning is done with the satisfaction of the community in mind. I enjoy working with people and provide an atmosphere that is both inviting and exciting. I get the privilege of sharing in the adventurous lives of my clients. I find satisfaction in seeing a project progress from an impulse to completed product or event. I learn something new from each assignment. I am paid to bring joy and to enjoy my work.

Luisah Teish was my grad school advisor and mentor. She empowers the creative spirit in us and teaches respect for the elders and ancestors. Her knowledge of improv, dance, and ritual are inspiring, and she makes you laugh until you cry. I wish I lived closer to Oakland so I could participate in more events that she leads. She is a very dear, talented, and powerful woman.

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I inherited the art of storytelling from my mother who entertained us with classic tales that she'd personalized. I 'm told that I was singing and dancing at five years old. I have been fortunate enough to have teachers who recognized my love of writing and helped me cultivate it. And I enjoy designing events for culturally diverse communities.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I am fortunate enough to find work as: 1. A college instructor. I both teach and design courses to address the needs of students from entry to Ph.d. level. 2. As a ritual design consultant I participate in life from the cradle to the grave. Rites of Passage are a specialty. 3. I am a well-known keynote speaker, conference weaver, and workshop facilitator. In addition to my own performances I am often asked to consult on creative non-fiction book proposals, to direct plays; and occasionally to serve as a ghostwriter.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

The customer may want to consider the following: 1. Assess their readiness to focus on the work. A committment to four, three hour sessions (a total of 12 hours) with progressive fulfillment of agreed upon assisgnments guarantees positive results. 2. Compare the work of different editorial consultants for knowledge of diverse subjects, writing styles, and experience as instructor/advisor. 3. Review my fee schedule and determine your budget. When these have been done contact me. Thank you
