I hired Casiano's to replace my kitchen faucet. The faucet was making noise and then water spray got clocked. I had already purchased a replacement faucet that was recommended by my HOA, so I just needed someone to come and replace it. I wasn't able to be present, but my renters liked that setup was friendly and professional. When I arrived to inspect the work, I found everything as good as new. I also appreciated Casiano's flexibility to accept payment via PayPal. This allowed me to not bother my renters with payments, inspect the work afterwards and pay without scheduling further visits.

Bajji was extremely professional, knowledgable and prompt. He had excellent communication and arrived at the appointment on time. He properly diagnosed the problem and took the time to explain to me why the unit was broken. He was able to replace the part on site and made sure the air conditioner was working before he left. As a side note, I had a different company come out the day before and they were awful! They never opened up my unit and quoted me either $450 or $4,000 for the fix. Bajji's knowledge was completely correct and he even checked the "bad part" the previous company told me needed to be replaced and Bajji assured me that part was fine. He was very reasonable and I will definitely be using him again should I need any other HVAC repairs! Thank you Bajji!

Oscar re-routed the drain for our washing machine, snaked our bathtub, and adjusted the temp on a shower. The drain ending up being a significant amount of work, but got the machine working as we had hoped and made life a whole lot easier for us (who wants to air dry laundry?). Oscar and his nephew were great to work with. Meticulous work, prompt, thorough, and gave us a very reasonable deal for the work done. Came back multiple times to get the job done right. He'll be the first person I call for future jobs.

I called Kevin at about 6:45 in the evening because our air conditioner wasn't working properly. He actually offered to service our unit the very same evening. He showed up when he said he would, worked efficiently, was very professional and is a pleasant person. I highly recommend him for other jobs.

Gleo is one of the most honest handymen I've had the pleasure of hiring. He came to our home, checked out our AC and pointed out how the air filter was clogged and the mesh around the condenser outdoor was dirty. He replaced the filter on his own dime and also cleaned the mesh around the condenser to improve the airflow and it fixed the problem. He recommended that I check the filter and the area around the condenser frequently and do my own preventative maintenance so that I don't have to spend money on a professional in the future at the cost of his own future business. I am glad I hired Gleo and whole heartedly recommend him for any handyman projects. I'll be hiring him definitely for my next project.

Very professional and more importantly -- honest. The technician went up on the roof to check the air conditioner and apparently there was just a contact that was stuck. He said it had something to do with the starter and that due to the age of my air conditioner, he did not know if he could find a replacement for it. However, he apparently just hit the side of the air conditioner and it unstuck the contact point that was stuck. The air conditioner is currently working so I'm happy. He only charged me for the service call and didn't try to sell me unnecessary parts or make an issue out of a minor fix. Much appreciated!

Carlos and his team did a great job and on short notice. They completely replaced all heating and air ducting in the entire home (1800 square feet). He was very professional and gave us lots of good information on heating and cooling that was outside of the work he was doing. He and is crew finished all the work one day and removed all old materials. Not only did I feel he was the most professional and knowledgeable, but his price was the best out of 4 bid we received, can't beat that. Great job Carlos!

I hired Jason through thumbtack to install my new custom panel dishwasher. Previously we had no dishwasher but we used home depot for the new cabinets and they put in the space for a dishwasher. On the day Jason came to install he brought it to our attention there were no hookups for the new dishwasher, Home Depot left that one out and we didn't realize we need updated plumbing. This guy was so prepared he explained clearly what needed to be done, and had all the parts on hand. He changed our faucet valve to a dual valve, he put in a drain and air gap. And we now have a new outlet under the sink. He did all this including the dishwasher in under 2 hours and didn't even go to a hardware store. Best service I've seen from a service guy. I'm planning to use Jason for our future hood installation.

These folks were fantastic! I had a broken air conditioner and they responded to my Yelp quote request in just a few minutes, even though I sent it after hours. It was really painless to schedule the visit They came right on time and called ahead of time as requested. They diagnosed the issue in about 5 minutes, showed me the broken part, fixed it with parts in their truck in a few more minutes and had a very reasonable charge. They also replaced my air filter. A/C works great less than 30 minutes from when they rang the bell. Very happy with them and would definitely use them again!

Wow !!! Hands down the best air duct cleaning company around. I recently bought my house and noticed the ac wasn’t working in one of the rooms. Joseph came out and seen there was a major problem with one of the vents. He gave me an amazing deal with taping all the vents cleaning them out and giving me a new uv ray filter and it’s made such a difference in the air and my ac is working great. If you book for a cleaning every three months he gives you an additional credit. ?

He was a life saver to me and my handicapped husband. He showed up on time and immediately found the problem and fixed it on the spot. His price was very far. Not only did he get us out of a pickle but also went to our friends home and fixed theirs air conditioner when 2 other places couldn’t find anything wrong with HVAC system. Call him, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you Andrew

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

  • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
  • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
  • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
  • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
    • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
  • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
    • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
  • Your home has humidity problems.
  • Your home has excessive dust.
    • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
  • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
    • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
  • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
    • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
