I've been training with Mehran since my early childhood, and would say this is one of the best things I could have done in life. With the discipline, conditioning, exercise, mental fortitude, and overall confidence to take on any obstacles that come my way. It's not just self-defense, its a tool that helps with the everyday challenges. Helping with coordination and mental strength. Mehran is one of the best instructors in the world. Training with him has taken me around the world and opened doors to many things life has to offer. Along with several Okinawan Karate Championships, I am still learning every-time I practice. Where do I began, Jarrod is an amazing coach hands down! When I first started training with him I always felt I was going to fail, but he believe in me so I started to, he got me in the best shape of my life and ready for a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in 4 months in the boys division. Jarrod is the definition of intensity he loves doing this, and that's what makes his coaching that much more beneficial cause all he want you to do is try, never give up and push your self. By training with him I never thought it would effect my thought process my emotions and my life in such a positive way. I wouldn't want to train with anyone else. I have such high respect for Jarrod! Nothing but amazing coaching he's a joy to be around and he knows what he's doing! Why wouldn't you want a instructor like him?

I've had one lesson with Cindy so far and loved it! She walked me through proper techniques and we did a variety of self-defense training so I was constantly challenged and learning. I can say that after one lesson I already feel much more prepared, but I'm looking forward to learning more and getting stronger in the process! I'd recommend Cindy to anyone who is looking for the perfect balance of self-defense lessons and working out!

I started working out with Joe in a gym at the University of Southern California. He was apart of the MFA program there and I heard he was some boxer guy. Little did I know that our work outs would not only challenge my athleticism (when I first started I could only jump rope for 30 seconds straight and I considered myself in great shape. Now I can jump for 30 minutes) but he also challenged me spiritually. Joe approaches boxing with a philosophy that can aid you in your every day life. Through our training he's helped me build a higher level of self value and confidence, not only as an artist but as a man. He's truly a gem to work with and I highly recommend you support his work. Plus it's really nice to hit something. You'll do plenty of that and feel really good. It's a great sweat and you don't really think about how hard you're working when working out.

If you are looking to get in to your peak physical form, head to Pro-Fitness Athletics. I used to play pretty competitive hockey and I made it my mission to get back to my playing shape. While I only play in Mens league down in San Jose now, I consistently sit at the top of the league scoring and helped power our team to 2 CAHA state championships in the last 3 years. John, the owner of the gym, knows what it takes as an elite athlete. Having played in the NFL, he understands both the mental and physical components of your optimal self. The sessions are fun and energetic, John knows how to push people (in a good way) to make sure they reach their goals. Definitely recommend Pro-Fitness.

"Women make some noise. Take charge of your life and defend yourself." United Studio of Self Defense, Foster City has an ongoing mission: to help the women in our community safeguard themselves against crime and assault, so they may enjoy a long, fulfilled and healthy lives. Our campaign is to help women to be well-informed, prepared with awareness, safety tips and basic defense maneuvers. Self-defense is for young girls, teens and women of all ages. We teach women in the workplace how to defend against using basic in-close kicks and strikes, using everyday keys, tools, writing instruments, self-defense weapons, e.g., kubotans (small metal or wooden stick). We teach to fend off realistic attacks such as two-hand grabs, single-wrist grabs, chokes, bear hugs, hair pulls and knife or club attacks. We work on strength and core training, which includes pad and bag work where women can really display their power and cardio endurance and fight back if they have to. Our program teaches the girls how to empower themselves mentally and physically, to know their surrounding and to prevent becoming a victim of kidnapping, assault, rape or murder. One out of 5 women are attacked in the US, which includes statistics even from our universities. Girls have a higher ratio of kidnappings compared to boys, just as women fall victim compared to men. In the US alone, not including worldwide statistics, 11,766 women were killed through domestic violence and 24 experienced intimate partner violence per minute. Our campaign is to reduce these stats. It's important to safeguard the women of our community, to fight for a safe place to live and work. The women in our program can customize the class schedule and include female family members or friends, a social club or work team. The sessions range from 1 hour to 2 hours and some will sign up for an ongoing program. We are available every day of the week, weekdays, Mondays through Fridays, from 12:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturdays, from 9:00 to 2:00 p.m. and Sundays, from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. Many of the women who complete our training have a great time and learn a lot about themselves and their surroundings, feeling the empowerment from within, feeling fearless to impact their own lives. I am not a martial arts instructor who wants to be called master, sifu or some other honorific title; I'm just an easygoing coach with three legitimate, confirmable black belts that will work with you at whatever level you are. I won't force you to train like an Olympian unless you want to, and I don't teach how to dodge bullets or fly through the air. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, read on. I am committed to teaching critical self-protection skills to those who seek it. My form of self-defense teaches the social, emotional, mental as well as physical skills necessary to avoid most confrontations. Should an assailant escalate to the physical realm, my students are ready to respond accordingly with easy-to-master physical skills that are derived from jujitsu, hapkido, aikido, wing chun and NYC street defense that any body type can learn quickly and easily. I offer private lessons to both adults and children, as well as corporate team lessons. For those who may be interested, I am willing to help them achieve their black belt through Jujitsu America. I offer a free needs analysis/first lesson and after that, I charge for eight lessons at a time. I strongly believe that no one should be denied this education and as such, I have committed to teaching these skills to young people in the public schools free of charge; just ask. Having lived in Japan for 8 years does not make me a better instructor, in and of itself. Nor does having been a tournament champion. 35+ years doing Karate and several years doing other martial arts helps my level of understanding. Having a deeper technical knowledge than almost anyone else outside of Japan helps as well. But what really sets me apart is the passion that I have, not only for Karate-do as a way of life, but for teaching it in a way that helps students progress as quickly as they are capable of.
