Dojo Americana Training Center
About this pro
As a student at Dojo Americana, owned and operated by Mark Hopkins, I can say that I have been exceedingly pleased with my experiences from day one. Humble, friendly and the true embodiment of what martial arts is all about. In this day and age, with the proliferation of numerous martial arts "schools" across America, there has been an outcropping of the "McDojo." Dojo Americana is a breath of fresh air, in stark contrast to those phonies out there!Aug 26, 2013
Mark is a fantastic instructor who runs an amazing dojo....great exercise, quality instruction, no egos, and a laid back and supportive atmosphere. I could not recommend Mark or Dojo Americana any higher.Aug 26, 2013
I signed up to Mark's Dojo Americana after I moved my home & business to Oceanside. There were several locations I could have chosen as there are about 6 "fight clubs" along Coast Hwy. I checked out every single one of them. I wanted to know that I felt like I was in a comfortable environment for myself, and the many times I bring my daughter or nephew along. As I expected, several of the clubs were run by younger, brash, and stand offish characters. I won't name places, I'll just say that I'm really glad I stepped into Dojo Americana, and fortunately for me, Mark was there to greet me. I knew I was going to commit to his dojo within a minute of our conversation. Since then I've been part of 3 classes consistently. Mark trains a fitness class on Tuesday and Thursday I attend that incorporates fitness, self defense, some jiu jitsu, and kick boxing. Its great fun and all levels of students are welcome. I'm a huge boxing fan so I go to the boxing class also on tues/thurs in the evening. Again, all levels of experience and fitness. Javier, who teaches the class is very experienced and teaches you from square one. I've recently added another class on Mondays to try something new. Muay Thai with David. What fun that is! Its like taking Mark's fitness class, the boxing class, and using it all together, plus some new challenging training techniques. When I started at the Dojo I was an out of shape surfer that works every day, and didnt think I needed more than a surf a couple times a week. Once I hit my mid 30's I knew that had changed. I had gotten lazy and it showed on my body and mind. Now I'm 40 years old, more alert, work seems easier because my head is clearer, I'm surfing better than ever, and I've lost over 15 pounds just by showing up to a couple classes a week over an 8 weeks. I'd recommend Dojo Americana to anyone, male or female, any level of experience, in or out of shape, to use for their daily exercise routine. It has turned my life into easier, more energetic days, and very restful nights! Make the time for yourself, you'll be glad you did!Aug 26, 2013
