- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For every type of photography or videography session, we discuss the purpose and need as well as how the photos or video will be used. The more we know about what our client likes or dislikes, the better we are able to plan their session and deliver the best photography or video. For example if it's a portrait session we need to know if the style is traditional/classic (looking directly at the camera best for LinkedIn or business cards), candid (non-posed and captures the moment), artistic (here the focus is more on composition and lighting), natural/environmental (photographed in an outdoor setting) or high fashion. If it's a video project you need, we normally have a consultation meeting to learn more about your vision. Each video is unique and the more we communicate and understand your needs, the better your video will be turn out.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a self-taught photographer and videographer. I have many years of experience, starting with film and developing pictures in my darkroom. That experience translated into the digital age where I have spent an incredible amount of time becoming an expert in both digital photography and videography. In addition, I have taken many courses and training to learn new lighting techniques, photographic styles videography filming and editing. Passion and enjoyment are key to becoming great at your craft. I always start by learning everything I can on the technical side and ending with the conceptual. Creativity will come once you know what you can do with your gear. Before engaging in any photography session, the first thing I analyze is light, and not the camera. What time of day is it? How strong is the light and what direction is it coming from? Is it sunny or cloudy? Is the light soft or contrasty? Is the sun in front of, or behind you? Where are the artificial light sources and what colors do they give off? This is the first thing that a seasoned photographer/videographer will look for every time they begin to shoot, and constantly be aware of while they are shooting. They do this for a reason. The light will affect how they shoot and the settings that they use. Even a slight change in direction to your light source can completely change how an image will look. You can’t learn how to use your camera correctly if you do not first understand the light.
