Introduction: I do very clean, high quality work. As if I were working on my mother's house... In ten years I have never had to go back and fix any of my work. Sometimes I get to be a hero and save the day when people call me to fix their power problems.

Hired on Thumbtack

5 stars ... but with a big caveat. I didn't actually hire him. What he did: He drove about 45 min to provide a free estimate. He came at 6 pm. I wanted to get a 240V dedicated line in my garage so that I could purchase the Nissan Leaf (all electric car) and plug it in. Unfortunately, after looking at my setup and all possible options, it is unlikely that I can get a line put in. The 5 stars is based on my short experience talking to him. You could not meet a nicer guy. He seemed knowledgeable, was straightforward, and tried to provide a variety of solutions ... The reason I took the time to write this very positive review is because even though I could not give him business today, I wanted to express appreciation for his efforts today. Thanks.

Recently over a strong wind and storm, we had a major tree branch fallen on our roof bringing down main power line to our service panel. Fire Department crew and Edison staff came out and took care of the imminent matters but Edison notified us that they will cut off our power unless we repair the damaged riser and reconnect all the electrical wires right away. We called around for the job but no general electricians were willing to do it because of the risk of handling a high voltage power line. Then, we found Tyson. After a phone call, he came over to our house right away on the same day and gave us a reasonable estimation specifying all the details of work and time and labor cost estimation, and we decided to hire him for the project. A couple of days later, he came over at the crack of dawn doing measurements for the needed supplies. He came back with all the supplies and began working on repairs. It was quite a project beyond what we first imagined. He had to establish and strengthen the existing power panel (we live in this 90-year old antique house) up to the code so that we will meet the current code of the power company. He had to reinstall with all new materials for the riser and connect the power line back to the electrical panel. While working on it, he found that more tree branches were in the way keeping the power line down, so he even gave a major tree trimming to do the job right. When he was done with his project, he not only installed the brand new riser but also trimmed our trees and further and fasten/strengthen the electrical panel. Now the power line to our house is well above what it used to be, keeping us safer than ever. All these work came out to be a major project and he had to put in so many more hours than he estimated. He worked hard all day long without stopping. We offered him more pay but he refused and asked only for the original estimation. We had to force him to accept our offer until he reluctantly accepted. We feel so lucky to have found a right and honest person for this job. We got the job done well and we know we will be safe with the installation he made for us. Besides, now we can always go back to him when we have more electrical problems in the future and we know he will be there for us with his honest hard work. Very Satisfied Customers in Arcadia, CA

I placed a request on thumbtack on a Saturday & Tyson responded within the hour. Unlike the others he wanted more information before giving me a quote. He listened to my problem (only 80v were being read out of the outlet for my dryer when it should have been 220v), then thoughtfully listed various causes and what approximate repair costs would be for each, that way I'd have an idea of a worst case scenario. He arranged a time directly with my tenants. He spent about 30 min trouble shooting found that the voltage reading was normal and the circuit breaker was functioning. He concluded that the issue was with the dryer motor and that I didn't need an electrician! That kind of conscientious work is what I'm looking for and I wouldnt hesitate to call him again or recommend him to others.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I GIVE FREE ESTIMATES: I will come to your home or office. Listen to what your needs and priorities are. Evaluate the situation. And write an estimate based on how long I think it will take to do do the work and how much i think the materials will cost. If you don't like my estimate, I'll leave. No problems, no charge.... I like to keep my pricing as simple and honest as possible... 1...I charge $50 an hour for labor (most electricians charge $75 - $100)... 2...I charge the cost of materials plus 20%. This is to cover the added cost and interest from putting the materials on my credit card (most electricians charge 2 - 3 times the cost of materials). I don't have a problem with a customer purchasing their own materials to save money but I can't warranty the materials unless I purchase them... 3...You can keep the receipts for your taxes if you like.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

Troubleshooting a loss of power to part of the house.... Kitchen and bathroom remodels.... Recessed lights and ceiling fans.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I you're looking through the phone book, make a mental note of the phone numbers and license numbers. if you see ads for different companies that have the same numbers don't call them. They are operating under multiple names because they get sued all the time.... When you call, ask if they are a contractor or a referral service. Stay away from referral services.... Stay away from anyone who claims to give future discounts if you pay an annual club or membership fee. Its a total ripoff.... The person writing the estimate should be the electrician who will do the work. If one person writes the estimate and a different person shows up to do the work, there will be problems and confusion.... Make sure that the electrician who shows up is from the same company that you called. If the name on the van or the paperwork does not match, send them away.... Your electrician should have a journeyman card available if you ask to see it.... There can be no misunderstandings. Your electrician should be able to effectively communicate what they are going to do using easy to understand language. Sometimes a language barrier can, unfortunately, cause the wrong type of work to be done.
