Armando Hinojosa says, "Working with New Start Nutrition Consulting and its owner, Gabriel, has truly been a life-changing experience for me! When I first reached out to Gabriel for help, I was feeling stuck and overwhelmed with my health journey. But from our very first conversation, I knew I was in good hands.Under Gabriel's guidance, I've achieved results that I never thought possible. Before working with him, I struggled with low energy levels and digestive issues that made it hard for me to enjoy life to the fullest. However, thanks to Gabriel's personalized approach and expert advice, I've experienced a significant improvement in both areas. I feel more energized and vibrant than ever before, and my digestion has never been better! What makes Gabriel stand out is his professionalism, expertise, and genuine care for his clients. Despite being a one-man show, he goes above and beyond to ensure that each client receives the attention and support they need to succeed. He took the time to listen to my concerns and tailored his recommendations to fit my unique needs and goals. But perhaps what I appreciate most about working with Gabriel is the personal connection we've developed along the way. He's been there for me every step of the journey, offering encouragement, support, and practical advice to help me stay on track. If you're hesitant about seeking help from a nutritionist, I completely understand. I had my doubts too. But working with Gabriel at New Start Nutrition Consulting has been one of the best decisions I've ever made for my health. If you're ready to make a positive change in your life, I highly recommend reaching out to him. You won't regret it!"See more

Erik F. says, "Before working with Rami I'd had serious lower back pain every day for 8 years. This started at age 24, due to a lacerated disc I'd suffered while lifting weights. Over those eight years I'd seen quite a few doctors, surgeons, and physical therapists. Generally, the prescription was to take it easy, restrict my activity, and just accept being in pain all of my life. My fitness regressed from being quite strong to being quite out of shape. One day I got sufficiently tired of this that I decided I'd find a trainer who might safely help me achieve at least a mediocre level of fitness. After canvassing a few, I was recommended to Rami, who has serious experience working with people with injuries. He's also quite yoked despite his own chronic lower back injury. In March 2020 we got started, and got started slow. I had tried a few times in the past to get back into serious weight-lifting, and without the right form and pacing, I kept re-injuring myself. Early on, Rami made sure we were re-building foundational strength: core, legs, stabilizer muscles. I felt impatient at the time. Five months later I was doing sets of deadlifts with 200 lbs, squatting, kettlebell swinging, and otherwise tossing around more iron than I have since my 24-year-old pre-injury peak. Every week I am getting stronger and in better shape. Rami's "steady progress" mantra has helped us push my body just enough without introducing re-injury risk, and the focus on foundational strength early had an unintended consequence: for the first time in eight years, most days I am pain-free. It's incredible. My doctors are amazed. 2 years in and I'm deadlifting sets over 400 lbs and squatting sets over 320 lbs. I'm literally stronger than I've ever been. Rami's holistic focus on foundational fitness, strength, conditioning, and diet has helped me finally get back in shape and joyously be able to use my body. I'm finally dancing again, skiing, bicycling long distance, lifting and moving furniture--all things I thought were off the table for the rest of my life. I've finally gotten back to the point that I'm craving going to the gym. Rami challenges me and supports me, cares genuinely about me, and is a riot to hang out with. My body has already transformed and my life has improved radically thanks to working with Rami. I'll be a client and friend all of my life, with him on the journey to old man strength!"See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.
