TJ was a Godsend to me in my third trimester of pregnancy! He was extremely professional, knowledgeable and courteous from our initial consult right thru the completion of the job. As others have stated in their reviews, it's a comfort to know his prices are what he quotes. Technically, the jobs I needed done were minor plumbing fixes but they were enormous to me pressed for time with family guests flying in and no clue of how and when I could fix them. TJ is friendly, timely, considerate and most of all efficient in getting my kitchen sink leak and my master bath leaks fixed in no time. I actually look forward to having him back to help me check other items off my list of home repairs and maintenance todo's. So worth every dime ;)

I hired Juan from Creative Electric because I am doing a home renovation and needed new lighting in my kitchen and bathroom as well as a fan in both my dining room and bedroom. There wasn't any electricity where the fans were being installed so Juan had to run wiring to them. I also have a water fountain outside that I wanted hard wired into a switch. Juan was knowledgeable, professional, fair and kept me in the loop with some of the issues that arose. I would recommend his work to any one.

This remodeling went very smooth and without any problem either from Eyal OR from the actual workers that worked at the house. The workers came over and each one did his own part. Eyal made sure that each stage will be complete without any mistake or problem. All the materials has been selected by us with Eyal and Eyal was able to get for us great prices. Eyal showed us at the end of the remodeling, each of the invoice so we will know how much went on the materials and how much on the labor. At the end of the remodeling, the bathroom is brand new with new paint, Bath tub and shower among the new floor, vanity and all the hardware around.

Adrian was a gem to work with. He allowed me the time to make choices and I now have a kitchen that I absolutely love. From the cabinets to countertops, flooring, lighting, electrical, backsplash, sink, plumbing and painting there is not one thing I wish he had done differently. His team was always punctional, the work quality was excellent, and just great to work with. Highly recommend Loyalty Counts for your kitchen remodel. And on top of all that, a great value.

I can’t express what a blessing it was to find Ezra is such a time of need. I had been going through a long, drawn out kitchen remodel with a different general contractor, but wasn’t getting the response, results and overall satisfaction I desired. I decided to take matters into my own hands and hired out to finish the work. I came across Ezra’s company. THANK GOD for him!! This experience was like night and day from the previous experience. Ezra was always PERSONALLY available and very quick to address and correct any issues (only very minor). He stayed on top of his workers and visited the site regularly, sometimes for hours at a time. Ezra expects only PERFECTION from his team and anything else is unacceptable. The end result is BEAUTIFUL. We are so happy!! Ezra’s tile guy completed a very difficult and time consuming Herringbone Subway Tile pattern backsplash in a matter of a few days. However, Ezra was there every step of the way, checking in and making sure it waS PERFECT and redirecting if it didn’t meet his standards. We had one dedicated worker who was very polite and worked hard - didn’t matter how late it was - he was dedicated to complete the job and make sure I was happy. Ezra is that guy that you will always keep the number— he becomes sort of a friend/family that you can call to help you whenever he can and just because he is a good person. This is the quality and just human kindness that’s missing from a lot of companies. In the disgusting rat race that we live in today, people forget about just being s good person. It’s so refreshing to see it’s alive and well, even if only a rare few...... The price was fair and considering that I made a contact I’ll use over and over, I feel I certainly got the better deal. I really do believe he was heaven sent and I’m so grateful for him. I’m happy to send anyone photos or offer a site visit to see his work in-person, if you are on the fence. Just hire him - you will NOT be sorry!!! (Just have to share him, like the rest of us! Hahaha)

Ruben was very fast in contacting me after I submitted my request for demolition of old tile and vanity, and installation of bathroom floor and wall tiling. He also has someone that can come out to do custom glass shower door on top of a bath tub which I also had done. Ruben and his crew were very efficient and quick while working in the bathroom. His prices are reasonable. The tile came out very nice. The only problem I experienced was that two to three times Ruben cancelled on me and we had to reschedule. One time he confirmed he was coming but then later that evening he had to reschedule to another day.

Had so many bad experiences with so many contractors until I finally found ABC. Joe, the guy who manages the project, is truly a sweetheart! While the job was not all smooth sailing, and is not even over yet, he takes the hassle and the stress of home reno off of your shoulders and makes it instead a wonderful experience. Happy with the outcome thus far, and truly grateful to have found Joe! He is the best out there! Simply A+ for everything!

Rami was very responsive. Bath tub tiles had to be broken to take out the dead possum under my bathtub leaving a gaping hole. I needed the job done fast and well. Rami responded quickly to my request for help. He viewed the damage and gave a quote on the same day. He agreed to get the job done two days later on a Saturday. He got replacement tiles to match the current tiles in my bathroom. His guys did a great job and cleaned up after themselves. Rami is the guy to call if you need to get the job done.

I cannot say enough good things about Guy and his crew. Amazing job from start to finish. Guy took our small idea and turned it into a masterpiece! He was on time and on budget! Two things that I thought were unheard of when it comes to remodeling! Guy was patient and responsive and answered every question without judgement or delay. Construction Owl will most certainly be our first call when we begin our next home remodeling project.

Karen Andrea Interior Design, simply put, is the best. We could not be more pleased with her designs, aesthetics, and creativity that transformed our significant remodel of a rather dated kitchen, master bedroom and bath, living room and dining room to places of beauty. Karen Andrea's focus, attention to detail, sense of responsibility, and straight forward honesty keep us informed on a step-by-step basis for a complicated and coordinated remodel process with ease and grace. All of this on time, on promise, and on budget.

Magen and her crew were amazing! They renovated our entire house; kitchen, two full baths, one half bath, new interior/exterior paint, refinished hardwood floors and installed new hardwood in kitchen to blend perfectly with existing hardwood. I made a few changes to the original plan, and Magen was extremely accommodating! I could not be happier with the end result. We ended up needing to complete the project sooner than anticipated and Magen sent reinforcements to finish everything up, again EXTREMELY accommodating. Their quality of work is wonderful, especially their tile work since we choose some more challenging patterns and tiles to work with. Will definitely use them again.

Alon and his skilled team of professionals made our dream remodeling of kitchen, master bathroom and laundry room. From our first appointment with Alon, continued to the demolition stage all the way to the completion of the work, the whole team and involved people of CentrePoint were experts, honest, highly motivated people and well organized. Any issue that was raised along the way… was addressed correctly and handled in a professional manner and we were always informed of the progress, deliveries and installations of our project. We must state that our remodeling project was also priced right and our price didn’t change during the remodeling. This was something very important for us and we are happy that it stayed that way. We felt like we were in great hands and we will definitely call on them again for any future projects.

Just want to say I am so impressed with Moriah Remodeling. I was working with Eran S. He is my project manager. and with his crew. You couldn't ask for anyone better. The attention Eran gives to detail is helpful and refreshing. We are doing a complete renovation of our kitchen, powder room, flooring, family room, two bathroom and laundry room. We are so pleased with the them, they are always on time, protect your flooring, furniture. ... everything is so organized and surprisingly we were able to use their company portal. Today it is very hard to find a reliable company and we would defiantly will recommend this company.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

Where should I start when remodeling a bathroom?

Bathroom remodeling doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Before starting a bathroom remodel it’s crucial to know what you want and have a clear understanding of your maximum budget. If you’d love all marble fixtures but have $3,000 total, you will have to compromise. Being realistic about materials and money before you even contact a contractor will have you on the road to success. Here are some simple steps to follow in the planning stages of bathroom remodeling:

  • List your remodeling priorities in order of importance (e.g., 1. New shower head, 2. Replace flooring, 3. Install recessed lighting, etc.).
  • Calculate what you can realistically afford to spend on your bathroom remodel. Identify an “all in” price — meaning the absolute maximum you’re willing to pay, as well as what you’d prefer to spend.
  • Gather ideas from Pinterest about colors and finishes.
  • Research the costs of the materials and finishes you want and begin making choices about what is and isn’t possible to fit into your budget (once labor is included). If you’d like to stay under $10,000 total, but really love a $2,000 tub, plan to downgrade in other areas.
  • Request quotes from at least three reputable general contractors, share your vision and ideal materials, and work together from there.

How do I plan a bathroom remodeling project?

If you’re stumped on how to plan a bathroom remodeling project, it pays to hire a designer. This is especially important if you’re changing your bathroom layout in any way. Designers create contractor-friendly drawings indicating exactly where each tile and fixture will be installed, down to the light switches. This investment might cost you $300-$500 but save you significant frustration and miscommunication, while ensuring you get precisely what you want.

If you’re going to do your own design, planning a bathroom remodeling project means being organized and planning ahead. Create a general outline of what you want and the budget you have. Identify the specific fixtures, tiles, paint and vanity you prefer. Get all this organized before requesting quotes from two to three reputable general contractors. Once you find the right pro, get a written contract outlining scope of work, materials that will be used, timeframe and payment schedule. Communicate clearly about when to order your materials so they are ready and waiting by the time the contractor gets the permits. Your job from here is to communicate clearly, pay the contractor as the work progresses, and enjoy your remodel when it’s done.

How long should a bathroom remodel take?

With proper planning and a good general contractor, your bathroom remodeling project doesn’t have to take forever. The construction phase of the project will always vary based on your scope of work, the square footage and the condition of your bathroom under the surface layer. Inevitably an 80-square-foot master bathroom with major changes will take longer than a 25-square-foot guest bath undergoing a minor renovation. For a smaller bathroom, a facelift — the industry term for sprucing up the surface layer (such as paint, vanity, tiles or light fixtures) but keeping the existing footprint of the space — may take five to eight working days, as long as there are no surprises like mold waiting when the old vanity comes out. A more complex bathroom remodel that revamps the shower area (customizing the plumbing, installing tile and changing the shower door), updates the flooring and cabinetry, and adds new paint and new lighting could take anywhere from one week to three weeks. A full bathroom remodel that guts the room, changing the footprint and moving the electrical wiring and plumbing lines, could take four to eight weeks or more. To keep your bathroom remodel on schedule, have your materials ordered and waiting, and don’t make any change orders once construction begins. Planning is key to keeping a bathroom remodel on schedule.

How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?

Nationally, the average cost of bathroom remodeling is $14,000. Bathroom remodels can vary widely, from standard makeovers to luxurious master bathroom revamps. The factors that affect your bathroom remodeling cost are the finishes you choose (marble tiles can cost 20 times as much as standard subway tiles), the square footage of the project, regional labor rates in your area and the scope of work. Changing the layout or size of the bathroom will also raise costs. Moving electrical wiring and plumbing lines will also dramatically increase costs, as you’ll need to hire plumbers and electricians to handle the work. What’s happening behind your walls and under your floor will also affect bathroom remodeling cost: Rot, damage or mold can lead to additional work and charges. Overall, bathroom remodeling may offer great return on investment and also improve your daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom remodeling costs:

  • 6-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $3,500, including labor and materials.
  • Standard renovation: $6,500-$10,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased. Labor may include taking out the shower and shower pan, installing new shower pan and shower, and installing new door, new vanity, new mirror, new bathroom fan, and all new fixtures.
    • Price variation depends on the quality of the finishes.
  • 10-foot by 6-foot bathroom remodel: $7,200, including labor and materials.
  • Mid-range renovation: $12,000-$15,000. Price includes labor and materials the customer has purchased.
  • Upscale renovation: $35,000 and up. Price includes labor and materials. Items might include digital displays for fixtures, multiple shower heads and custom showers.
