We hired Jared to do our epoxy coating in our new house. He was super responsive to all my questions via Thumbtack, arrived on time, explained the process and did an amazing job. Even gave us text updates. We also asked him if he could install a washing machine pan and he did it super quick! He is very friendly and even worked on our garage on New Year's Eve AND New Year's Day! Can't wait to hire him again, our garage looks amazing!

Freddy did an excellent job painting one room that had some cracks and holes. It was an urgent job as guests were coming in and Freddy was timely and got the job done in a day. He fixed all the issues and did two coats including doors and trims. It was all done for a reasonable price. I'd highly recommend him for any paint jobs and will definitely hire him again for future painting needs.

We hired Excel Construction few months ago and we just finished our entire home remodeling project. We researched, met and interviewed few other remodeling companies before we decide to hire Excel Construction and we couldn’t be happier and more satisfied with our great decision. We love Eyal and the ideas/solutions that he brought to the project. His design team was perfect for us and they always has few options for us to think of before we took the right decision. We’ve noticed very clear that everyone on the job was skilled and professional in his own trade and specialty. They did a perfect job by keeping the house as clean as they could and they were very respectful of our space. We remodeled our entire house including the kitchen, bathrooms, living room, garage, laundry room and bedrooms!!! We are super happy with the new house that we got and the complete transformation of it. Excel Construction are highly recommended and we already recommended them to few of our friends.

I had a pretty positive experience. I called Garage Doors & Gates 4 Less number (I got it from a colleague) and gave them a call. The rollers were not working properly and I wanted someone to come fix them. Maria said that they could not come right away but would come before the end of the day. It was fine by me. Juan arrived the on the afternoon and saw the problem. He then fixed it within a one hours. I am happy with his services and the garage door is working well now.

Jose was great to to work with and his price was right too! I needed a keyless lock installed on my front door and Jose had never done one before. He texted me and got the brand and had looked it up online and was well prepared when he came over. Took him no more than 10 minutes to install it. I also wanted pictures hung on my living room and I'm a bit of stickler and had to have Jose re-do but, he was extremely good natured and was very obliging and, I now have a set of perfectly hung pictures. I would definitely hire him again. BTW, he also does woodwork!

Juan of After Hours Handyman is the guy to hire. He did a great job in installing an outside entry door and frame to our garage. Juan, his Dad and Father-in-Law spent about 3 hours making a difficult job look easy. He also recommended the type of door to install. He did high quality work and and displayed a very professional attitude.

Daniel, Mario and the rest of the team at World Class Construction are honestly the best crew I’ve ever hired, and I’ve done quite a few remodeling projects over the last 20 years. They are extremely professional, courteous, fairly priced, and best of all – fast! My wife and I were very impressed by the speed at which our luxury bathroom remodel was completed, and trust me when I say this was no ordinary job…. everything was custom, and they stepped up to the challenge and delivered. Overall, we are 100% satisfied – so satisfied in fact, that we immediately hired them again to remodel our garage conversion project. Thank you World Class Construction!! (PS, a lot of companies ask you to write a review… we were not asked – our bathroom just looks that AWESOME ☺.)

My door was offtrack so I put out a request for immediate service. They contacted me quickly and came out within an hour due to my emergency(and request for fast service!). Tyler came out, quickly got the door back on track and found the root of the problem. I'm confident I won't have this problem again. Monterrozo Construction definitely superseded my expectations. I needed to convert my garage into a living headquarters. Carlos explained everything I needed to know about it. He checked with the city ahead of time to make sure that I was zoned for the conversion and didn't even charge me ahead of time. He was honest and throughout about it. I would use him again.

I chose SAP garage door repair even though they initially had no reviews because I needed a fast response and the ad said 24/7. So I sent at text at 10:30pm and immediately got an answer back. We set a time for the next morning and the owner of the company was right on time. Not only was he able to get my garage door fixed in a hurry, he educated me about garage door maintenance and upkeep to keep the problem from happening again. He used high quality products and gave a super good price. He even saved me money by repairing a panel on the door instead of suggesting I replace it. I usually don’t hire people with no reviews but I am so glad I took a chance this time. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company for your garage door needs. Thanks again for the great job!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How much does it cost to get a garage door fixed?

The national average for garage door repair cost is between $80 and $110. Some of the factors that affect your garage door repair cost are the type of springs (most often torsion or extension), the size and weight of the door, and the door material. Many garage door pros will charge a service fee to visit your house and determine the problem. Often, the service fee includes a set amount of labor. One example of this is an $80 service fee that includes the first hour of work plus testing and inspecting your garage door and garage door opener, while another pro may charge $150 for the same standard service call.

Broken or jammed springs are a common problem. In one example, the starting price for spring repair was $99, while another pro’s cost started at $185. The $185 starting price included $40 for transportation costs, $60 for parts, and $85 per hour of labor. Professionals may charge extra for late-night garage door repair emergencies.

How much is it to replace a garage door panel?

Replacing a garage door panel can add significantly to the cost of a garage door repair. Panels run horizontally on sectional roll-up garage doors. They may be made of wood, vinyl, aluminum, fiberglass or steel. Garage door panels can become damaged from hail and other extreme weather, dents and dings, car accidents, and age. When deciding if you want to replace a garage door panel, it’s helpful to compare the potential repair cost to the cost of a new garage door. Panel replacement requires a pro with the proper tools as well as the new parts. With parts and labor you could be paying more than $500 for one new panel. In comparison, a new garage door may cost $800-$1,200 (on average) with installation. If there is a possibility your garage door was structurally compromised when the panel was damaged, have the pro assess whether it’s better to completely remove and replace the door, rails and framework to ensure your home’s safety. It may also be better to completely replace your door if it is severely rusted or dented; if the paint is peeling and fading; if the door model is outdated or you can’t find replacement panels; or if the panels or rails are structurally compromised.

How much should it cost to replace a garage door cable?

If your garage door is not opening or has become jammed, you may need to replace the garage door cables. Unless you have the proper tools and know-how, this is a job best left to a professional due to the weight of the garage door and the extreme tension of the springs. The cost of repair will vary depending on your location, the length of the cables you need, and the time it takes the pro to do the replacement.

From a big-box store, basic garage door cables can run between $8 and $20, depending on the product. Your pro may charge you a different cost if they provide the cables. Your cables may not need to be replaced if they have simply come off the track, but broken cables will need to be completely removed and replaced. In either instance, the pros will need to secure or take down the door; unwind the springs; reset or replace the rollers, cables, and drums; and then wind the springs once more. For example, a pro could reset cables that have come off the track for $129.99. The average national cost for a garage door repair specialist is $80 - $110 per hour and the typical cost to replace a broken garage door cable is anywhere from $130 to $200.
