I hired Sergey to remove a ceiling fan with lights and assemble and install a replacement. He arrived when he said he would, worked quickly, and cleaned up afterward. I believe I paid a fair price and I'm happy.

KEVIN WAS HIRED TO REPAIR/INSTALL CEILING FAN AND REMOVE TV ANTENNA. HE WAS QUICK TO RESPOND WITH A ESTIMATE AND WE SCHEDULED A REPAIR DATE/TIME. HE WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT BOTH ITEMS I WANTED TO BE FIXED. HE REPAIRED THE CEILING FAN AND REMOVED THE ANTENNA AS AGREED WITH A TRULY PROFESSIONAL STANDARD. HE ALSO LOOKED AT A FUTURE PROJECT (REPLACING TWO TOILETS) AND MADE RECOMMENDATIONS. I WAS REALLY HAPPY WITH THE WORK DONE AND WILL DEFINITELY BE RETAINING HIM FOR ANY PROJECTS IN THE FUTURE.

We had a great experience working with Jose. He was the only person that responded to our initial inquiry with a quote that matched the services requested and a clear understanding of the job. In advance of our appointment, he helped evaluate the new faucet that we planned to install and was accommodating when we thought it might not arrive in time for our scheduled appointment. He arrived on time, working quickly and efficiently. The end result was perfect - the newly installed faucet looks amazing and he fixed a problem with one of our sinks that was the result of someone else’s poor workmanship. We will definitely reach out to Jose for any future projects we might have.

Oscar was quick, responsive, professional and honest for my water heater repair. He came in after hours to review the situation and completed the work the next day. He went above and beyond to make sure the repairs were up to a high professional standard and did not cut any corners while staying at his quoted price. Highly recommended.

Responsible and knowledgeable. Would definitely use them again to repair our appliances. They cleared out a drain which was blocking our washing machine functioning.

We found Salinas home remodeling services most helpful in several ways. Services done for us included electrical wiring, plumbing installation, wall and ceiling painting with texture applications. Also, bathtub, sink and appliance installation. All work was done at high standards. Note: we also experienced generous and positive attitudes from soft spoken professionals, and received on time service. Above all, we have memories of his installation process that are most rewarding. Thank You, Mr. Vyron Salinas and his helper Pablo. Yours truly, Nicholas Adkins

He is great to work with. -Renato has helped me with home maintenance for the last year. He also was invaluable in helping me fix my home to sell and fix up my new home to live in. -He is very efficient with his billing time: he has the right kind of electric tool to get any job done quicker than using manual tools. I have referred him many times to friends. -I have used him to: install sinks/faucets hang pictures (he uses 2 laser beam devices for accuracy) fix stuck doors pest control install light fixtures, move exterior lighting plumbing and electrical misc items fix fences install doors/locks and replace hinges install big screen tv (he built a simple custom stand). -I also used his team to clean my old home and new home. Best deep cleaning I have seen. -I will be using his window cleaning over the next month. -His is prompt and communicates quickly by cell and text. -Great quality and service at fair and competitive rates.

Routine water heater swap - yeah right. What started out as thinking our water heater was broken, turned out to be a long overdue clogged sewer lateral. Worst case scenario. While I'm not that happy about the sewage overflow situation which could have been better mitigated (and we still need to beach the hell out of that room), the solutions and options offered by Ali were professional and spoke of his experience. To unclog the piping, snaking was attempted but failed, hydrojetting was attempted but failed (with a mess of sewage). Finally we got a camera down there to find a wall of something about 50 feet down from the mechanical room to a spot under the sidewalk. Digging 4 feet down, to find actually a pretty good condition clay lateral. Ali's man Valentino (a skilled gentleman), cut the clay and replaced it with a riser in order to install a cleanout for future maintenance. Once done, they hydrojetted for another hour to clear 7-8 months worth of waste. The camera was once again sent through to find that a portion of the clay lateral had shifted and created uneven surfaces including some penetration of tree roots. While most plumbers would probably recommending an immediate replacement, Ali recommended that since it wasn't fully collapsed, we should simply clear out the lateral as routine maintenance rather than spend all the money to replace the pipe. I appreciate his direct communication, no sales pitch, and brief coaching through the process. While I do have 10 yrs of construction experience, and his price was not the cheapest, he certainly delivered on time and without any sense of price gouging.

I recently hired Jasper for a kitchen cabinet job that involved installing new hardware and hinges on all of my kitchen cabinet doors (as well as some touch-up work on the doors, themselves) and then installing/hanging them. He also installed a new surface for the under-sink cabinet. I would definitely hire Jasper again. Top notch, quality work, reasonable rates and he's a super nice guy on top of that. Definitely recommend.

Very experienced and professional. Got our gas line extended for new dual fuel range. Great quality work. Also got a permit from the city and they knew the CA plumbing codes. Inspection was quick and easy ( inspector signed off in just 5 mins ). Planning to get all my future work done by them. Highly recommend for anyone.

My Whirlpool Duet Dryer was failing to start running -- just a "beep" and "click" when I pushed the Start button, but the drum wouldn't turn. Poking around on YouTube and Google I figured out how to get the diagnostics codes out of the display. Showed "88" code and all LED lights lit up, which means that all looked good. I contacted 6 appliance repair shops through Yelp and gave them all the same info. Tim from IRBIS responded almost immediately and he and I did some more diagnostics over the phone. We thought it could either be the Thermal Fuse or the whole circuit board. He gave me a quote for either repair, in writing, shortly thereafter, and since the other 5 repair shops were not as responsive, I made an appointment to have it repaired the next day. Ryan showed up on-time and got to work. He had to take the entire machine apart to get to the Thermal Fuse. He tested it with the multimeter and it, indeed, was bad. He replaced the part with one that was working (which we also tested) and put the whole machine back together. But when we started it up, there was a different problem. The diagnostics codes now said "6E". Ryan took it apart again and took a close look at the door switch, which appeared to be broken as well. He was able to fix it by hand and put everything back together. In the end, Ryan spent a lot of time with me and fixing the dryer. He charged me exactly what Tim had quoted. The work includes a 6-month warranty and I feel confident that these guys will make it right if anything does go wrong. Good, quality service. Thanks to Ryan and Tim for the professional work!

I put in my request with Thumbtack Sunday afternoon. Within an hour he gave a quote and after my acceptance he said he would be able to fix it by Monday evening if the part suggested by my description was available. Early Monday he texted that the part was available and kept me informed about the time the technician would arrive. The job was completed by about 10PM on Monday and the washer now works fine. Previous attempts at dealer service over the years would take weeks. Many thanks to SF Bay Area Appliance Repair and to Thumbtack. Jim Half Moon Bay

I think the best and truest value in working with the Majestic team is the access you get to their apparently infinite knowledge of electrical wiring, installation methods, and building codes & regulations. Beyond the great professionalism and fantastic work quality, to talk to someone who can really break down not only your options for how to get the work done, but how to merge your costs and your time for the best possible outcome can't be stressed enough. Thank you very much Nasar and company! You've got a customer and a referral for life!

The most professional and knowledgeable plumber I’ve ever hired! Dom came over to install a simple water heater, what happened next was out of the playbooks. The pipes burst, the tubing was incorrect, and Dom handled it like a true pro and stayed here for hours on a Saturday. One of the most amazing human beings I’ve met in a very long time, if you need to hire a true professional that you could trust.Dom is the man for you! Also, he went above and beyond with fixing little repairs that he was witnessing as he was doing his job. A true professional from top to bottom.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
