Introduction: I'm a working professional bass player with over 30 years of experience. I have worked onstage or in the studio with Maria Muldaur, Mazzy Star, Victor Krummenacher, Shana Morrison and many more. As a teacher, I try to bring my years of experience to bear and give my students the skills they need to enjoy themselves, and play well whether in a professional or recreational setting.

Paul has worked with me on bass for a couple of years. Unlike most teachers with a pre-set agenda or specific teaching methodology, Paul works with what you present to him in terms of what you want to learn and accomplish, and where you are with your individual skill level and technique background. He will help you select repertoire that will challenge but not overwhelm you, and he is really good at figuring out specifically what you need to do to accomplish your goals as a musician. I have had a lot of teachers on various instruments over the years (and I am a retired teacher) but Paul impressed me so much because of the breadth of his knowledge and ability to break down technique into practice that I can use.

Simply put, they don't come any better. If you want to learn from the best, it's Paul. As a lifetime musician myself I know what it takes to be a great teacher. Our daughter has blossomed under his guidance--Thanks Paul!!

Paul has been teaching our son for about 1.5 years and has been terrific. He's incredibly patient, reliable, thorough, and flexible. He has a good understanding of what to expect from a child, and is open to working with all sorts of learning styles.

My son started taking lessons from Paul when he was in fifth grade, and we could not have asked for a better teacher. Paul is fun enough to inspire kids at any age, and gears his teaching style to each student. He's an outstanding musician and a great role model. It's been a pleasure to have him in our lives.

FAQs

I stress strong fundamentals . I want players to have the skills to go out and have a good time playing. I think learning the bass should include reading music, chord charts, and being able to play by ear so that you can function in any situation. Good fundamental technique for ease of playing and to avoid injury is also important. I also help players work through developing bass lines for their own bands, analyzing various ustyles of music and discussing how parts are created.
