Mary was extremely interested in helping me and my specific needs. I had explained, via thumtack, to her my circumstances and she took the time to do some research so she was prepared to ask more intense questions when I arrived for my appointment. Mary also added to my own research knowledge and how i can become more aware of my body's needs and possibly circumvent flare ups in the future. I have used massage therapy before and since relocating to Riverside, Mary has been the first massage therapist who made me feel like i have found a professional partner who will be helping me work towards my physical recuperation. I would say to anyone Mary is definitely a massage professional that cares about the client.

I had my first session with Lisa yesterday, and I will DEFINITELY be having her back! Over the years, I have had many different massage therapists, so I can tell right away if someone knows what they are doing--and Lisa certainly does! I have a couple of different physical issues which cause me a great deal of discomfort, and she knew exactly what to do to alleviate my pain. She always made sure I was comfortable, and that the amount of pressure she was using was effective. I had never had a massage therapist come to my home, so wasn't sure what to expect. Lisa immediately made me feel at ease with her warm personality, and after asking about any of my physical issues, preferences, etc. she explained the process to me, stepped out while I got comfortable and then put relaxing music on, and it was just like being in a spa-only better!! This isn't just a job to Lisa-she loves being able to help people feel better! She is very good at what she does, and I felt better as soon as she started working on me! (And felt even better when I woke up this morning!) Her prices are very reasonable, and the convenience of having her come to my home was a huge plus for me! There's nothing worse than getting a great massage, and then getting in your car and running errands on your way home instead of enjoying the benefits of the massage! I strongly encourage anyone who is looking for an excellent massage therapy experience in the comfort of their own home to call Lisa!! I will definitely be having her back on a regular basis! If you could give more than 5 stars for a review-Lisa would get 10 from me!

I have had chronic lower back and shoulder pain for many years and just received the best therapeutic massage EVER. Mirabelle is very thorough, knowledgeable and professional. In addition to a very good and effective massage, she gave me stretching exercises to do at home to keep me in shape. I am very impressed with her and plan to continue massage therapy with her.

Gina has been my massage therapist for years! She is always extremely professional and down-right AMAZING at her gift! Her knowledge goes well beyond massage, as she is well versed in Fascial Stretch Therapy (what I currently use her for!) and Cranial Sacral Therapy. I have referred her to many friends and clients, all with positive feedback. I highly recommend her!

On May 27th I had the privilege of experiencing the benefits of a very therapeutic massage from Healing Hands Mobile Massage Therapy who arrived on time which was very impressive considering I'd only made the appointment the same morning. Overall, my experience was very positive, the best massage by far for improving circulation, treating muscle tightness, wellness and to reduce stress points in the body. Knowledgeable, friendly, above and beyond what I expected. I would highly recommend Healing Hands Mobile Massage Therapy to anyone seeking the very best benefits of health and wellness from a well informed, cultivated and enlightened massage therapist. Thank you so much!

I took yoga classes with Jen for about 4 years. She connects with people very well and understands what you are looking for without telling much. Her yoga method applies to all levels of yoga practitioners. It can be made very challenging for advanced folks or easy for beginners. But the best part about Jen is that she explains how each part of the body should be held for any pose. When you follow those instructions exactly, the pose can be held easily. Some of the poses were very difficult for me in the beginning but with Jen's consistent help, I could do it in a shorter period than with other instructors. Her method of teaching goes hand in hand with meditation. That leaves me very relaxing. She is also a great human being - she volunteers to provide therapy sessions at cancer centers. She is a great pick!

I went to see Paul because I needed counseling, I didnt know he was a hypnotherapist. He called me right away and I could tell he really cares. He explained his technique and was very personable with a great sense of humor. He truly believed that he could help me. When I went to his office I was completely hopeless but Paul sat down with me to reassure me that I have a bright future ahead of me. I feel a LOT better after seeing him. This was different than a regular therapy session, and it worked a lot more effectively than just talking everything out. Somehow it really worked and afterwards I felt ready to take more responsibility for my life!

I absolutely LOVE anytime I am able to schedule with Christina. From the beginning of the session she was receptive to what I asked for but also guided me through exercises and stretches that can be done to activate or relax the muscles I wanted to target. Her professionalism is something I admired from start to finish. She was always sure to ask me if the pressure was right, if I wasn't already knocked out. The massage I got was a theraputic massage with aroma therapy. One massage I really look forward to with Christina will be the athletic massage. I would highly recommend to book at least an hour and a half session, because once that hour is done, oh you're going to want more time. Thanks Tina for your services and your kindness! I look forward to our next session!

Totally satisfied with my treatment and assessment! Akua works her magic with a mix of acupressure, reflexology, massage, cranial work and energy work! Even with one treatment I can feel positive results on chronic pain from an injury I encountered 8 years ago! She has left me with some stretching and strengthening recommendations as well as some nutrition suggestions! I would book with her again!

I hosted a bachelorette party in Palm Springs for 11 ladies and I thought it would be a great touch to have a massage service provided for them at the home we were staying at. Veronica was punctual, sweet as can be and she is incredibly good at what she does. All of the ladies gave her rave reviews and said it was the best massage they had ever had. I visit Palm Springs often and I plan on contacting Veronica for more of her very WONDERFUL and extremely RELAXING massages.

I am so very happy that I found Deborah at Muscle Therapy For A Sound Structure! I asked to speak with her by phone and she responded right away. After talking to Deborah I felt very comfortable to have her come to my house to give me a massage. She showed up a few minutes early, was professionally dressed, and is very clean and neat. She listened to my needs and was very caring. I am really looking forward to my appointment with her next week. I highly recommend that you give Deborah a try!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

      • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
      • Nutritional medicine
      • Botanical medicine
      • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
      • Hygiene
      • Counseling
      • Minor surgery
      • Homeopathy
      • Acupuncture
      • Intravenous and injection therapy
      • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

      Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

      Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

      • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
        • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
      • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
        • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
        • Do I need a referral?
        • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
        • What will the co-pay be?
        • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
      • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.
