Otto was fantastic. He's very dependable, reliable and did as he said he would. He listened to my concerns and was conservative in the trimming of bushes. I highly recommend.

It went from "Look at that gigantic monster-tree!" to "Are you sure there was a tree there before?!". That's how great of a job they've done. They also pruned a Loquat tree and a Lemon tree. They look so healthy and shapely now! The most important part was, besides the quality of their service, the willingness of this company in working with our budget and not diminish the amount of dedication to their work. That's something!

Mr. Gabriel arrived on time for our appt.. He listened and noted the landscape problems I was having. He provided solutions to the issues I presented, and quoted an estimate both to eradicate the 'brown spot leaves" as well as monthly maintenance service. So far, Mr. Gabriel has pruned all of my 15 rose trees and sprayed them for black spot. He will repeat the process every 14 days until the disease is gone. He has always shown up on the weekly scheduled day and leaves the yard blown free of debris and the patios hose down. I am hopeful Mr. Gabriel will continue to perform at the same level of care in the future.

I am very pleased to have hired Adrian/AG Landscaping! Pros: hard-working, courteous, prompt with communicating back and forth, knowledgeable, efficient, reasonably priced and mindful of prices for items to be purchased. For special mention: Adrian seems to really care about plants, how they are treated and pruned, what's best for plant/tree health, soil and other many factors that go into being a real gardener in the context of other landscaping factors (hardscape, irrigation, etc.) The work is not yet completed, as it will require several work days. If yesterday's day #1 is a sample of the rest of the work, then I could not be more satisfied. Adrian listened to my description of the overall results I wanted and also to the specific items I wanted in the final result. He advised me on what he thought would not work and why, and, alternatively, on what would be good to do, which parts he could do and which ones would be best for other professionals. I know this process would not work for others, but it's perfect for me, because I am figuring out as I go the redesign of our landscaping. I will add to my review after the project is completed.

Leo Gonzalez and his team did an excellent job of shaping, and pruning many trees on my hillside. He also cleared several heavily overgrown trees that were invading my gutters and obstructing many window views. He finished with a thorough gutter cleaning. The work was skilfull and all trees look beautiful. Leo left my place spotless. I'll definitely hire him again!

Debbie has been my garden expert for several years. She installed a beautiful front garden of drought-resistant plants, and she and her crew come out periodically to maintain my front and back gardens, including the addition of new plants, the occasional removal of unsuccessful plants, and improvements to my irrigation system. I don't know of anyone more knowledgeable and creative in the world of gardening..

This company does everything! They do beautiful work pruning my trees every year. They built a fabulous outside kitchen for us. They repaired and resurfaced our cracked pool with pebble tek. They have done hardscape in my backyard. They have added supports to an existing wooden fence so we did not need to redo a whole fence. What can I say? Alfonso does amazing work. I have recommended him to so many clients and friends who have used him also.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
