The catering staff was amazing and polite. We got one chef, one assistant, one server and one DJ. They arrived on time. Server helped us set up and clean up everything. DJ was great! They did a wonderful job! Price is very reasonable and acceptable. Paid them with extra tips when service is finished. Love the team! Recommend for any events!

We just had a college graduation party for our daughter on 4/30/16 with about 80-100 people and it happened to be at our new house. This was the very first party at our new house and we were quite nervous about how it would go. At our old house, we have had many many parties and we had a system in place for everything down to the layout of the tables, food serving area, cooking area, lighting, etc., At our new house, it was first and foremost a bit challenging because of our steep driveway with no room for turnaround for the bbq trailer. Pam came 2 weeks prior to the event and put together a workable plan. She worked it out by leaving the trailer in the culdesac below and cooking everything there then transported everything in cambros up to where the party was in her SUV. The food was fabulous and everyone thoroughly enjoyed all of it. The menu consisted of the following; pulled pork, santa maria style tri-tip, and 3 sides which were bbq beans, twice baked mashed potatoes with the fixings, and 2-cheese mac-n-cheese. We also had 2 appetizers which were the pig candy and the links in a blanket. All was very delicious! We took care of the desserts ourselves but worked it out with Pam for an additional crew member to take care of serving the desserts. We had custom cupcakes, donuts, and smores. Pam and her crew were very attentive to our guests and even took care of helping with making the smores over the fire pit for the kids and others. I remember Pam saying, this was the first time in many years that she made smores. I bring this up only because, if you're looking for a more personable caterer who will customize things for your party then, Pitt Stop Bbq is the caterer you should hire. Since I like to be quite thorough, I asked for and received pricing from a total of 6 caterers and interviewed a total of 4 of them. The common denominator with the others was they simply wanted to do the bare minimum, count every single plate only to charge you more for the additional plates used, and then quickly leave. This was far from the case with Pam and her crew. They were very friendly and jumped in where needed and as needed. I definitely look forward to using them again the next time because it was soooooo nice not having to worry about the cooking and serving and cleaning up. My wife and I and family were simply able to host and mingle rather than being stressed out with all the particulars. Thanks Pam and crew, you guys made our event special and successful. Ron, Ana, and family.

Ms. Johnson did an amazing job catering my event, hosted at St. Vincent de Paul, Council of Los Angeles Thrift Store for the SDSA General Membership Meeting, of 100 people with a buffet, drinks, hors d'oeuvre, and recyclable cutlery. Ms. Johnson helped me determine the best menu for my clients and type of event to make specific to my needs and all within my budget! Her staff was friendly, helpful, and self sufficient. I highly recommend Super Food for Super People for your next corporate event!

Work quality - phenomenal Professionalism - fantastic Responsiveness - Joanna couldn't have been more responsive if she tried. Value- heck yes! Do you know how pricey mobile bartending and catering vendors can be in LA? This company is a steal considering the amount of collaboration and quality of service your receive. Punctuality - On time, super fast in setting up, even faster tearing down. I highly recommend this vendor. I planned an entire event from another state and Joanna made me feel like I had nothing to worry about on her end. Will work with her again for sure.

Zeke Casas catered my daughters Quinceñera, he made Chili verde, rice, beans, fresh salad, an amazing salad dressing, rolls, and salsa. So many people loved the food.. so much flavor with every bit.. there was not one thing without flavor.. the family rated his food as the most amazing, delicious, dish they have tasted. Zeke and his crew are very respectful, helpful, and caring. They take the time out to make sure everything was to your liking.. they left the hall kitchen spotless, like no one had ever used it.. I give Zeke and his crew 10 stars.. amazing job, amazing food, and I recommend him for your next event... never can go wrong with a great caterers..

I left this review on the Knot.com and thought I would repeat this here. We loved having Feast as our caterer for our wedding and highly recommend them. "For our wedding we were connected with Marcus and Feast Catering through a good friend who used to work at the Annenberg Beach House. What a great recommendation! Marcus sat down with us and was flexible in working with our budget. We really appreciated this. We were able to do a tasting with him, and Marcus was very receptive to feedback. We asked for an Asian influence for the menu and Marcus and his team pulled it off beautifully and creatively. The food was delicious. They arranged a beautiful beet salad that looked great in all the photos. We had soju coconut cocktails. The wines were good too. My niece said it was her favorite wedding food ever - Marcus was so kind to ask if we wanted a special meal for the few children that were attending. They had mac n' cheese, chicken nuggets - their favorites! Marcus managed his staff well, too. They decorated the tables nicely with the linens and Feast arranged the heat lamps and all the rentals for us. All of the staff were courteous and friendly - great service. Feast assigned a special person to look out for us as the bride and groom and make sure that we had all that we wanted - seconds on the buffet, an extra piece of wedding cake, another cocktail, anything. Thank you so much, Marcus!"

Wendell catered a private event, for a group of all vegan / plant based guests. The food was phenomenal and some of the best plant based food I've had. There was a large variety of flavors and dishes - greens, tempeh, tofu, seitan, tons of veggies, quinoa and more. The variety of food was so good, I am looking to bring him as a private chef for a series of wellness retreats.

Everything was wonderful, from start to finish victor was helpful and responsive! We wanted something quirky and they created exactly the right menu for us and their prices blew everyone out of the water!! While my groom and I didn’t have a minute to sit down and eat the food everyone said it was great! They provided everything and I just cannot sing their praise loud enough! My first experience with Still Waters Catering was for a small memorial service. The budget was not large but the food and service were still top notch. The next two events were larger more elaborate gatherings (a business party and a wedding) and the food choices were elegant. The fact that they also provided the china, stemware and linens simplified the process for us. The man I talked to named Drew, who created our menu, supervised the food preperation as well as all of the service turned out to be the owner. Talk about hands on. We could not have been happier.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

  • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
  • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
  • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
  • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
  • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
