I hired Casiano's to replace my kitchen faucet. The faucet was making noise and then water spray got clocked. I had already purchased a replacement faucet that was recommended by my HOA, so I just needed someone to come and replace it. I wasn't able to be present, but my renters liked that setup was friendly and professional. When I arrived to inspect the work, I found everything as good as new. I also appreciated Casiano's flexibility to accept payment via PayPal. This allowed me to not bother my renters with payments, inspect the work afterwards and pay without scheduling further visits.

Derrick saved us a lot of money. We got 2 other quotes to replace 3 doors. Derrick let us know we did not have to replace our front door. He said he could fix it by replacing the knob and lock. 2 General Contractors told us we were going to have to replace! He patiently waited for us to get our stuff together (order and paint doors) and once we were ready, he scheduled within a week. I would recommend him and we will use him again!

I had a challenging renovation project to trim out some doors and windows because every surface was irregular. After reviewing work from many general carpenters, it was clear these guys had real finish carpentry skills. For each window and door, they took the time to figure out the best way to approach and then did super high quality work and now everything looks great. Pricing was also very competitive. Hoping to use Barsesat for a cabinet project in the near future.

Very impressed with S.O.T.A Construction. I contacted 5 different contractors and S.O.T.A. responded within an hour. Two of the others I contacted did not to commercial work. Another responded 5 days later. We needed someone ASAP and S.O.T.A. got us an estimate within a few hours and arrived the next morning to do the job. Wow! The work they did was very well done. Truly professional work. We couldn't be happier with the outcome. We will be contacting them again.

We hired MJH Construction Management to complete renovations of our recently purchased home. With a wealth of knowledge and experience, MJH determined the best solutions to a number of complex repairs and additions including floor leveling, heating, plumbing and electric. MJH helped us choose several improvements like changing the floor plan for better use of space, installing a gas fireplace as well as a bathroom and kitchen upgrade. MJH oversaw the contractors to ensure the work was completed and billed correctly. Throughout the process MJH kept us apprised of the costs and schedule - there were no surprises. We are delighted with the results - our renovated house came out fantastic.

Sergey and the Wise Stage crew are the best contractor team I've ever worked with. Sergey was honest, responsive, and stayed on time and in budget. We had a complicated bathroom addition that included structural changes, plumbing, tiling, windows, electrical and more. They delivered a beautiful and high quality bathroom for us at a significantly lower price than other quotes we received. I give Sergey my highest recommendation. They are the best.

After much discussion, my wife and I decided to remodel our dated Victorian kitchen. Following online research, multiple in house consultations and estimates, I was surprised by the significant valuation deviations and the lack of insight concerning maximizing our space. I recognize with these old Victorians that there can be complex problems once you start tearing out the old, planning around electrical, but these valuation inconsistencies concerned us; subsequently, we put off our remodeling plans. A couple months passed; my wife was at a school fundraiser and explained our situation to a friendly couple. They recommended a construction company called Refresh and Build; we eventually contacted the firm and spoke with Sam. Once we explained our situation and vaguely what we were looking for, we set up an onsite consultation. Sam not only gave us a reasonable quote but the best advise on how to maximize our medium size kitchen in an artistic style while maintaining the Victorian’s integrity. The project moved along on schedule and within budget! We were so thrilled with the ease, pricing, and final product that we had them remodel our bathrooms. My wife is happy for now! ;) Highly recommended.

Shaz manages his jobs well and is always available to reach with a question regarding the project. We renovated our kitchen and as the project progressed more problems arose due to the aging condition of our house. Shaz evaluates the pros and cons and encouraged us to make repairs that would improve and extend the life of our kitchen and house. He continued to think about the project in his off hours and often came to us the next day with a solution to space concerns in our design that we hadn't thought of. Even though there were a few hiccups during the process, my husband and I are very happy with the end result. I truly enjoy cooking in my new kitchen. Thanks Shaz.

After months of searching for the right contractor to do our remodel of our master bath,we found pacific and the process and the way they handle and do remodels is genius, we just finshed with them about a week ago , and I am beyond happy with the finshed product. Moran and his team kept me informed and involed in the process the whole time , not everything little thing he came to me with , only decision they he knew i would want to make , I selected who i wanted to do the work, i knew everything up front , i wasnt hit with a bill after. Or change orders. and after a bad kitchen refacing( with another company ) that took months and tons of problems , I was kinda scared to countitue , but Pacific gave me my joy back , I will forever be thankful for the time and energy moran put into the project.

Paul has completed many large and small projects in updating my Guest Cottage. He has replaced the roof, retiled my bath tub and replaced my hardwood floors in the kitchen. He also is helping me convert my garage into a studio apartment. I like the fact he is willing to work with recycled building materials I've purchased from Habitat for Humanity. First just want to note that I rarely ever leave reviews for anything. Jay and his crew were awesome and I felt like they really deserved a great review and some insight into hiring them. I had a really hard time finding a *licensed* contractor to take my job because 1) it was a repair that needed immediate attention and 2) it was a more complex situation that involved 2 different homeowners because my unit leaked into the downstairs. Jay was very helpful and understanding, and he was very honest and easy to work with. Also to note, I was unable to be there for the fixes since my tenant lives there and I live 8 hours away -- Jay regularly updated me on the status, sent me pictures of the whole process and completed everything very quickly. I'm a marketing professional and found Greenstar to be very professional, on time and reasonably priced AND provided high quality work - all things that are very hard to find. I definitely trust them and can confidently say I would recommend them and will hire them again for future jobs.

After a long research to find a trusted general contractor. we chose Tom to be our project manager for our master bathroom and it was an excellent experience! Right from the start, Tom was very helpful and told us about the whole process, what will decrease the price and what not so we will stay in our budget. The project had no delays and it was very organized with attention to small details. Even the inspector told us the the bathroom is beautiful. So we definitely recommend Bay Home remodeling! If it’s your first remodel bay home remodeling is highly recommended!

Aldo saved us thousands of dollars! We’ve been battling a mystery leak in my garage on rainy days. Multiple contractors told us it’s our roof and that I’d need to spend the $$$$$ replace it and then wait for the rain to return to confirm the problem was fixed. While we agree that the roof needs to be replaced soon, we were skeptical about having it done immediately. Then Aldo responded to our Thumbnail req. Aldo’s approach was totally different- he suggested a more scientific approach, starting with a thermal camera and a scoping camera. By using both of those devices, he proposed the leak was originating in a window not the roof. After a 15 minute water test he verified his hypothesis with relative certainty. Days after installing a new window the rains returned but the leak didn’t! With the problem solved, Aldo turned immediately to the finishing work- moldings, trims, drywall etc. –the results are beautiful. Having worked with contractors in the past, I know that smaller jobs can linger for long periods, and communication with contractors can be frustrating. It is absolutely NOT the case with Aldo. He’s responsive, transparent (i.e. provided options and the corresponding impact to the original quote), and never out of touch. He sets realistic and reasonable expectations. More importantly, he shows up as promised. We're excited to have him work on a few more projects in the near term. Thank you, Aldo!

I couldn't be happier with Dan's work. He and Brian did an amazing job transforming my decades' old bathroom into a modern gem. Here are a few things that made him stand out (not in any particular order) : 1. Professionalism. I've heard so many stories that contractors are notoriously famous for being late, but no, Dan and Brian are very punctual (in a few cases they even get to my place earlier than scheduled). The second day into the project, it was unbearably hot (close to 100 degrees) and there was no fan in my condo. I felt bad for creating such a inhumane work condition so asked him to skip that day. But Dan said he wanted to and continued the work. 2. Work quality. Dan is extremely knowledgeable about remodeling. He is also very detail oriented. When installing the tiles, he carefully laid the tiles so there is a great consistency in the shades and patterns. It was beautifully done and I was really impressed. 3. Value. Dan's quote was very reasonable and competitive. I've got one contractor whose offer was three times higher - for a tiny 40 sqft bathroom that is a crime IMHO. I was also turned away by so many contractors because my project is too "small" and hence not worth their time. I appreciate that Dan treats all projects the same - the way it should be. 4. "Can do" attitude. As a first time home owner, I just do not know the ins and outs of home remodeling. I was frustrated to learn that the plumbing for my vanity is not in the center, the walls are not level etc etc etc. Some contractors would come in asking me to "fix" these problems, which would make their lives easier. But not Dan. Instead of complaining about these problems (which really aren't my fault), he tries to work around and find a solution. Plumbing not centered? No problem. Walls not level? No problem. Missing faucet parts? No problem. This kind of "anything is possible" attitude really gave me a peace of mind and makes the remodeling procrss less stressful. 5. Cost savings. Most contractors asked me to buy a pre made shower niche, which usually costs 100 dollars, and metal edges or bullnose tiles, because it made their lives easier. Dan made these himself and saved me a lot of hassles and money. I will continue to use Dan for all other renovation products and will refer him to my friends and colleagues. I hope you can consider Dan for your projects as well.

We hired Fay and her team to work on our mountain hotel lobby renovation and club house. We were truly impressed by the her team's creative thoughts and efficiency. We hired an architect before them but ISO ideas produces much better quality work and with fast turn around. They were very versatile to address our requests and very friendly professionals to work with. I highly recommend to other business and home owners.

Mark was wonderful to work with. He responded quickly to messages on Thumbtack and via text. He was punctual and flexible with our schedule. He walked through everything with us, listened to our concerns and needs, and worked with us to stay within our budget and timing, and sequenced projects accordingly. He also has a great sense of humor and was pleasant to talk with. We were very happy with his work and the work of the professionals he worked with for electrical, plumbing, and painting. The work that was done: removal and replacement of 2 windows, walls, and flooring where there was water damage, wood rot, and the start of mold; adding a door to access the space under the front stairs and creating a storage space with tiled floor and drywall; waterproofing / sealing the brick of our front steps and porch; removing carpeting and laminate flooring and installation of new laminate flooring; installing siding on the front of our house and painting of the front of the house (2 stories); texturizing and painting walls; installing a wet bar / kitchenette; replacing shower pan, tile, and shower door; removal of tree and bushes in front yard. I think that’s everything. We highly recommend Mark and would happily work with him again.

Daniel and crew were amazing! They renovated our entire house; kitchen, two full baths, one half bath, new interior/exterior paint, refinished hardwood floors and installed new hardwood in kitchen to blend perfectly with existing hardwood. I made a few changes to the original plan, and Daniel was extremely accommodating! I could not be happier with the end result. We ended up needing to complete the project sooner than anticipated and John sent reinforcements to finish everything up, again EXTREMELY accommodating. Their quality of work is wonderful, especially their tile work since we choose some more challenging ptterns and tiles to work with. Will definitely use them again.

I had three criteria when searching for a contractor: Quality, Honesty, and Communication. Sam passes all three tests with flying colors. I've already recommended Sam to friends and family, and wouldn't hestitate to do it again. After my father passed, we needed someone to renovate my parents' former rental. The last tenant did a number on the place and it was already showing its age. Sam was aware of the significance of this project to my family and was very conscientious about keeping within the budget. He rebuilt the inside of the entire house including all new plumbing, electrical, and insulation. Mom was so happy with Sam's work that she had him remodel her own kitchen and bathroom. It's very difficult to find a contractor with a balance of craftmanship, honesty, and effective communication. Don't hesitate to give Sam a call!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
