Job: Giving my 12 y.o. grandson piano lessons, starting in January. I appreciated very much Clifford's patience in waiting to hear what day and time he can teach my grandson!

Super helpful in finding my voice and finding ways to explain concepts in a way that was easy for me to understand since I had no prior voice lessons or experience. Also, he is flexible in his schedule so it was easy to find a time for thre lesson that would work for me. Would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to improve their singing ability.

My wife and I have both been taking lessons from David for almost 10 years. Not only has he been a great teacher and a staple in the music scene, he has also become a good friend. I had a couple of different teachers prior to David and none compare! He's mastered every aspect of the guitar and has a unique way of teaching what you want to learn. I still have his insightful guitar chart pinned on my wall. Thanks David!

We weren't sure what to expect from a self-defense class, but Max offered me a good breakdown over email prior to the coming in to teach, and once here, he was good about demonstrating techniques and allowing the class to do as much or as little as they were comfortable with. I found Max's lessons to be practical for the common person, and his teaching style is to the point, but relaxed. He'll answer questions as you go along and help you to chain together the different things he teaches you. We've asked him back for every other week, so he's definitely doing the right things! We have a lot of fun, but also learn a lot from Max.

She can explain everything about singing and she knows how to teach in a right way, don't damage your voice. I can recommend her to everyone who start to sing or even professional singers improve their skills.

I have known Lynn for 35 years and you cannot ask for a better piano teacher. Lynn started teaching me piano 35 years ago, and now she is teaching my daughter. Lynn is extremely caring, knowledgeable and passionate. Our daughter has flourished since beginning piano lessons with Lynn 2 years ago; she is playing advanced songs that most students her age wouldn't be able to play. Lynn makes learning piano fun, and our daughter enjoys practicing daily without us having to remind her. We are very happy to have Lynn as our teacher, and would encourage anyone interested in piano to call her first.

Kathleen helped my daughter who was a junior in AP Spanish. Kathleen was patient and kind , listening well to my daughter and working through her problem areas. She was also very flexible with scheduling the lessons working with my daughters school work and extracurricular activities. With Kathleen’s help, my daughter brought her B to a solid A.

Sun Spanish is an excellent way to learn Spanish. It offers convenient group classes and private lessons. My choice was private lessons. Sun Spanish tailored the classes to fit my needs: conversation, not a blizzard of grammar rules. As a result, and after a relatively short time, I am able to easily carry on a conversation with any native speaker. I am now going back to learn some of the more difficult rules of grammar, but only after already exceeding the conversational level that I had expected. I highly recommend Sun Spanish.

My daughter is been going to Fame for the last 4 years and her brother followed her path, is also a student since last 2 years. Both love playing piano and like to go there for lessons. For me that speaks volume about the teachers there: Ms. Gloria and equally nice Ms. Barbra. Both kids are in 2 different programs and these lessons at FAME are helping their musically skills with great teaching methods which the teachers use. For both the kids the experience is a fun learning one! I have been recommending friends and they have been happy about this place!

I’ve been taking lessons with Owen for several months, and learning lots! Owen is a fantastic teacher - patient, encouraging, and kind. He has helped me advance in a short period of time to playing beautifully. He’s an incredible guitarist himself and can play any style. Can’t speak highly enough about him!

Natalie has been fantastic to work with! Her instruction through exercises, general tips/suggestions, and specific ideas when working on a particular song has all been stellar and on point throughout my work with her. I feel like I have improved dramatically over the course of our lessons, and my band members have made several comments about my improvement as well. She has an uncanny knack for knowing what I am doing with my breath, diaphragm, throat, mouth, etc., and being able to suggest just the right adjustments to make things sound better and more comfortable to sing. Natalie is a wonderful person, too, very encouraging, supportive, and respectful. I highly, highly recommend her!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
