I hate to leave a negative review and impede on someone’s livelihood but I had a really bad experience with them and wouldn’t want someone else too as well. I had them scheduled for a Tuesday to come assemble some cabinets and gym equipment in my garage. They gave me the run around for two whole days (“he’ll be there at 11”, “he got stuck in SF”, “he’ll be there tomorrow afternoon”, “he’s on the way”). They also avoided my calls/texts for the remainder of the time. Not only is this frustrating because I’m being given the run around (just tell me you found a bigger job in SF and gave them my slot, which is actually what happened from what it sounded like), but I had all of my garage belongings on my driveway while I was waiting for this guy to show up. I got cited by my HOA and am left stranded, trying to find someone else to fit me in their schedule. AVOID!

We are sorry you feel that way. We completed one job for you and you seemed happy and booked us for the next set of things to be assembled and we quoted it for one visit, as you said you would have everything, but then found out it was not going to be one visit, but two, a week apart, the day we were supposed to come out... on top of the floor issue, which we will address later. The first time we arrived, we could not even drive down the street because of the construction and you did not tell us until we were a few minutes away. The second time we were supposed to come out, you told us we would have to assemble the items in the middle of the day in the middle of your driveway because they just epoxied your floor and didn't want us on it, which was also not part of the original deal. We did not have a bigger job anywhere and got stuck in traffic. We moved here fairly recently and were not aware of how severe the traffic can be at certain times of the day. But, no matter where you are from, you cannot change aspects of the job (i.e place of assembly, or number of visits) without there being some changes.

AVOID AT ALL COST! I would give 0 stars if that was even possible. If you would actually like to have your service completed go elsewhere, literally anywhere else. Look at recent reviews and you see this is obviously a trend. I recently moved into my first home and wanted to have some lights changed before we had our first guests over. Jacob's team confirmed with me but then had to reschedule for later in the week, which at the time wasn't a problem because I assumed I was dealing with a professional who would actually honor their commitment. After he was over an hour late I reached out to see where he was. Supposedly he had arrived, but was leaving because I did not have parking. I live in the middle of San Francisco in an apartment - no one here has parking - but more so Jacob and his team never let me know they would require parking. Had they let me know that we could have done something to try and accommodate them. His partner told me she would follow up but never did unless my husband or I reached out. Finally they said they would honor the job so I did not try and schedule another handyman because I again mistakenly believed they would do as they said. Finally at 8:30pm last night they said they could come at 6 or 7am this morning - we agreed to that. I woke up at 5:30am waiting to buzz him - no one ever showed up. No call, no message, no response to my messages, absolutely nothing. The absolute worst experience I have ever had working with someone on Thumbtack. If you like to be lied to, have your time disrespected and not get your job done then this is person for you!

I am sorry you feel that way, but unfortunately being rude to someone or laughing at them when they say they don't mind coming at 6am does not make them want to show up. There was constant disrespect in your messages. Being someone who is not originally from the area means we are not always entirely sure of what parking and traffic situations will be like in a certain zip code until we experience it, but you also made no effort to help us when we realized it was a problem. Just because someone is a 'blue collar' worker does not make them beneath you or give you the right to bully them. It is not okay to treat anyone that way.

Jacob and his partner came to my house twice for a couple of jobs. First time to replace a toilet in a guest house and haul away the old one and replace a hose bib on my deck. The toilet replacement was done fast and efficient, the hose bib he couldn’t replace because I didn’t know where my main shut off was located until my husband told me later. Haha He came back the second time to complete that job, he already had replacement parts and all went accordingly. He also cleaned the gutters at the guest house the second appointment. He kept me updated on his arrival time and showed up within close proximity to his appointment times which is more than I can say for some other people I hired in the past. Respectful and kind couple with good work ethic, I highly recommend it.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

We try to quote most projects using a flat rate so you know what to expect cost-wise.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We try to get a feel for the job and things you need done. Some customers are more comfortable talking on the phone, which we are happy to do as well. Once the job and costs are agreed upon by both parties, we set a time and date.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

We were both carpentry/masonry specialists in the military and Jacob was also a heavy equipment operator. Jacob has also had over 10 years of experience in the building maintenance industry working for apartment complexes and a senior living facility.
