Luis Orellana was hired to find an individual who had "disappeared" with a very valuable antique and also a substantial amount of money for interior design services that were never rendered. Luis has proven to be both a savvy and diligent investigator, committed to achieving the objective based his personal reputation. He has already obtained and returned the antique to my possession, and will focus now on the return of monies taken in association with the local police department. My experience has been one of "positive relief," knowing that an experienced and professional investigator has taken control of this unexpected and undesirable situation ! David Heniges

I retained WIS to conduct a delicate social media investigation. I had an immediate response, a tailored outcome that included a thorough analysis. All the contact I had was directly with the principal, and he was fantastic at explaining the process and alerting me to the realistic outcomes that I could expect to receive. I consequently had realistic expectations - and before I actually paid for anything - about what might be possible. I did not ultiamtely find everything I wanted but it was very clear indeed that WIS went well beyond the extra mile to help me, left no stone unturned in researching the issue and looking for an answer. As an example of going beyond the extra mile, WIS kept on the matter after sending me the report that I had paid for and voluntarily provided me with an update report that did contain additional useful information. Who else would stay on the case like that? I doubt it is industry practice, but it is the way WIS actually did things for me. I found WIS very polite, very responsive, very quick, very thorough and totally objective. I would have no hesitation in recommending WIS, and I personally will not waste a second looking elsewhere if I ever needed work of the sort WIS does to be done for me. It was an excellent experience, and good value for money as well.

Words cannot express how amazing the experience was with Rod and the Investigators at investigations by Retired Cops was. It took a long time to get the courage to make the call, but I now wish I had done it sooner. For years I felt my husband may be cheating but I truly wasn't sure. I was embarrassed and scared. I made the call without knowing what to expect but right away they made me feel comfortable and walked me through the process. Knowing what a stressful situation this was they answered my questions, supported my need for confidentiality and discreetness and communicated with me throughout the entire process. If anyone is ever forced to face a bad situation such as mine I hope that they are wise enough to use Investigatins by Retired Cops. They are professional and knowledgeable. I recommend them to anyone in need and appreciate their ability to help me move forward in my life in a positive way. Excellent Company!

UNIT 07 was very refreshing to work with...I needed help in the form of bodyguards and I needed my former business partner investigated for fraud against myself and my new business partner. UNIT 07 was very methodical with the way every aspect of my case was handled, I only wished I could have been more involved but they got the job done and I think I was to emotional to get to close anyways. Thanks again. Robert E. C.

I hired Joseph Recovery for 2 jobs...1 was to help me find a way to collect on a 2 year old judgement and the other was a family issue(possible cheating spouse) I have tried other companies before with no luck. They handled the family issue fast with photos and video. The judgement work was even better, they found the bank and even knew when to have the Writ delivered so I got all my money. Great company, great service, and great price. Very discreet. 100% recommended. Hope I never need them again but if I do, they will be my first call.

I have used Linked Investigations for years. I had an incident with an employee in the past that taught me a valuable lesson. I now screen all potential employees. I provide Mike with basic information like a name, SSN if I have it, and an address or phone number and he can find a surprising amount of information on a person, for example, any criminal past or credit issues. The reports are thorough, timely, and worth it. I recommend him to any employer or anyone needing a background check.

      About

The Law Office of Brian R. Johnston is focused on helping Creditors get paid. I am dedicated to the collection of debts and the enforcement of judgments. Most Attorneys work on your case before and during your trial, but once the case is over they have no interest in helping you collect your judgment. I step in after you've won your case and I recover your money from the debtor. I am also a Licensed Private Investigator. I find assets of the debtor and take them to satisfy your judgment. Contact me when you need both a Lawyer and a Private Investigator to enforce a judgment. The Law Office of Brian R. Johnston has the experience to get you paid. I love seeing justice done. It's great when you win your court case, but it's not so great when the debtor refuses to pay. The best part of my job is when I send a check to you for money that I recovered from him.

      About

With 13 years experience as a law enforcement professional, I have an extensive working knowledge of the laws and regulations surrounding the legal system, municipal and superior courts and the California Penal and justice System. I love being able to help others navigate the justice system and I get a great sense of personal satisfaction from helping those in need. As a former foster parent to more than 50 children and as an adoptive parent to 10 of my 13 children, I have a special place in my heart for children, especially those who are at risk.

      About

I have over ten years of conducting a variety of private investigations for the public. I have conducted process serving for over twenty years. I have conducted every type of investigation imaginable from background to surveillance for cheating spouses to complex malpractice and criminal defense. Don't let the apprehension of speaking to an investigator keep you from satisfying whatever investigative needs I can satisfy for you. I'm friendly, exhaustively thorough and my work shows through my complete investigative reports. Give me a call. I can help. I look forward to hearing from you. The most satisfying part of what I do is the satisfaction I see and hear from my clients. They seem to truly appreciate the constant feedback and interaction I provide as I go along conducting an investigation. I truly enjoy solving unanswered questions my clients' investigative needs pose. I take pride in not trying to dig deep into the pockets of my clients and they really appreciate that as well. I rarely charge mileage; even for process serving outside of Los Angeles County. I try to put myself in the shoes of my clients and this seems to work very well for all involved.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a private investigator do?

First and foremost, good private investigators follow laws. Unlike on TV, they don’t break in windows or hack into hospital computer systems to get you intel. When you hire a private investigator, you’re hiring a professional to gather facts and find information for you. Although they can’t obtain certain information (such as health records), they do have access to information that most civilians do not. Often private investigators are hired to perform surveillance or background checks or investigate cases such as adultery, child custody, missing persons, hidden assets, or debugging, and theft or other crimes.

Private investigators can be hired to interview people and provide that information to the client, perform photo or video surveillance, monitor activity at a location where you suspect criminal activities or questionable behavior, track a person’s movements, find missing people, do deep-dive background checks, and more. Private investigation can be helpful if you’re trying to get a court order but need evidence. Private investigators can also help find birth parents. Nationally, the average price range for private investigation is $70-$210 per hour.

What does a private investigator cost?

Private investigation isn’t just for blockbuster action movies. Hiring a private investigator can help in all kinds of situations ranging from finding a birth parent to improving personal security. Nationally, the average price range for private investigation is $70-$210, although pricing often hovers between $40 and $100 depending on the complexity of the services you need. Where you live in the country will affect your costs for private investigation; larger cities have higher business overhead and a higher cost of living, which in turn means higher service rates. The complexity of your case can also affect cost. A basic background check may have a flat rate, while hiring a private investigator to help with your child custody case may require more legwork and research, and therefore cost more. Some private investigators work on retainer. A retainer is essentially a nonrefundable deposit you pay to the professional — meaning you have retained their services — who then works against that amount. Here are some examples of average private investigation costs:

      • Hourly rate: $60-$70; costs can vary based on current fuel prices.
      • Flat rate: $100 for comprehensive background investigation services.
      • Retainer: $1,500 minimum retainer required by some pros before starting work.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
