Jose was incredibly professional. Articulate, polite, organized, punctual, patient, and did a high quality job. I asked him to fix a number of things in my condo to prep it for renting. This included patching and painting walls, power washing the patio, cleaning up landscaping and putting in some edging features, and a few other misc tasks. His pricing was fair and well worth the resulting work. I will definitely be calling Jose for many jobs in the future.

I recieved a free estimate from Michael for some interior painting and he was able to complete the job on the same day. He showed up on time, was extremely professional and is a Master of his craft. I would recommend Michael to others that are looking for a reliable, professional painter. I will be hiring him again in the near future.

Johnny was incredibly responsive and painted a small rental unit we have in one day at a very reasonable rate. He did such a good job and was so easy to work with that we are now requesting he give us an estimate for painting our exterior. He said that he wanted to be our painter for life and I think he has won that title.

This was my first time using Thumbtack. I wanted to paint the interior of my home. After a few in person quotes I ended up choosing David and his team. Overall cost wasn’t a factor but professionalism and rated reviews were. I’m glad I decided on David. When I stepped out for the day as the team prepped, one of the crew mentioned when I get back it’ll be transformed and it definitely was! Very happy with the whole experience and as mentioned I’ll be using him for my upcoming projects as well.

Randy Green, sales/project management of Five Star Painting, impressed me as an articulate detailed expert at painting that cares about quality work. Although they don't currently have a drywall expert which I need right now, he still spent quite a bit of time interested in my project and gave me ideas which when tried, really did improve the look of my home. I would not hesitate to hire Five Star Painting of Temecula for interior painting when I don't need entire walls textured from smooth to knockdown.

As the Project Manager for an upgrade to a condo for resale, I hired Emmy Hyde to do the work. She did a great job! Her attention to detail was impressive and she was very easy to work with. As an Interior Designer, I work with a lot of contractors who assume I know nothing about their trade and often condescend or disregard my opinion. On the contrary with Emmy, even though she knows her trade well. Will definitely hire her again.

Dean and his assistant did an outstanding job on painting an interior door for me. He matched the door's color/sheen to my other interior doors to perfection, which I attempted to do on my own and couldn't even come close. He showed up on time, did amazing work in a short span of time, and even let me book my appointment with minimal notice on a Saturday. VERY considerate guy and VERY good at what he does.

We had water damage, a bizarre whole-ceiling light fixture a la 70s, damaged linoleum flooring, 1/4-1/2” brown grout lines. & more. Jason fixed it all beautifully, demoing, drywalling, painting, tiling, cleaning, & painting more. His work is impeccable, he is very neat, & he did it all in about 5 days. He was helpful when we ran into plumbing issues, & when asked to add on random details like replacing damaged casing, painting the grout (eco-friendly), & helping with the ceiling fan, he was obliging.

There are 5 different categories that Thumbtack is asking for feedback on: Work Quality, Professionalism, Responsiveness, Value, and Punctuality. Mancillas Painting is run by the name of Rudy Mancillas so my review will detail his delivery on the 5 different categories. Puncuality: On the initial quote visit he was on time. After he left, i did have to remind him twice to send me the quote. However, when we set the date to start he quoted 2 days job and start at 7. Both days he was on time and made alot of progress the first day staying till 5 pm!!! Value: I received 4 different quotes for the job. Mancillas came at a great price. 3 from Thumbtack and a off the books contractor. Rudy came in, quoted, and stuck by his numbers even with some extra requests and requirements on the fly!!! Much appreciated. Responsivess: It's very important that a contractor is reachable before, during, and after the job. Things can change during the whole ordeal and Rudy was responsive everytime I texted him for: confirmation, change request to the original, or other misc stuff, he was always responding! Professionalism: Professionalist and Honesty should be combined or Honesty can be it's own category. The biggest reason I chose Mancillas was because of his Professionalism on the initial visit and I felt like i trusted his honesty in the discussion for the job. During the whole project, he and his teams professionalism was superb!!! Always engaged, always confirming, and always communicating on the work to make sure i was always happy. Quality: This one is probably the most important, yes? At the end of the day, we pay someone to do quality work. Especially when it costs this much and the work is visible to everyone. The quality they provided excellent. At the end of the job, i found out that he does exterior painting and I have already chosen him to do the outside of my house next year!!! Thanks Rudy for the great work. Ronald

Daniel did an awesome job painting my bathroom, changing out outlet/switches, replacing doorknob and installing towel racks. He kept in touch with me and let me know when he was coming. I so appreciate Daniel completing the job so quickly and leaving the bathroom cleaner than he found it.

"A Painting Company" did a fantastic job with my property. They were enjoyable to work with, flexible and professional. I was especially impressed with how Don Westrope solved a problem I had for decades with cracking and splitting with the pre-WW II doors in my Mission Hills residence. These doors could not have replaced without considerable expense and they made these same doors look new. The job was done in record time and the work priced fairly. The quality of their painting was excellent. This is a great company to work with for your painting needs.

We just purchased a three story home with vaulted ceilings that needed a full interior paint including baseboards, doors and ceilings. Carlos was punctual from providing the invoice after the estimate to showing up on time. He was honest, respectful and cared about my needs for my painting project. Not only will Pristine Painting be the only painting company I use but I will refer to all of my friends, family and colleagues. Thank you Carlos and Pristine Painting!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
