Thomas did a great job capturing our wedding at Wine & Roses in Lodi! Very professional and friendly person. He was never in the way or distracting like I have seen with other wedding photographers and yet he was still able to take so many amazing and memorable photos. Thank you!

Lolita is an amazing professional! More than a photographer Lolita is a great human being... we hired her for our courthouse wedding and without a doubt was the best thing I did! She was there early took a bunch of great pictures, during all the wedding proceedings she was taking pictures of us and also my family and friends. The great thing about working with Lolita is how much fun we had and After the awesome experience working with Lolita she gave us a lot of pictures of our courthouse wedding. A day we will remember forever! We will definitely hire Lolita many other times!!!

Nothing I can write here will do Alena and her photography justice. My husband and I are not super romantic people, we don't love our pictures being taken and were very fearful of the wedding photography process. Alena made everything easy- nothing felt forced or fake. As a bride I wanted photographs that I wanted to stare at forever but were a true representation of my husband and myself. After 12 years together we finally tied the knot and my photos will be cherished forever! If you are on the fence don't be- Alena is a true pro, her photographs rival those that are double and triple her price point. Thank you Alena for making our day perfect, we are so happy.

We hired trendz weddings for makeup and photography for our our wedding. Their deal seemed too good to be true but they did a phenomenal job. Very professional and gave us the exact look we wanted. It will be hard to beat them for the price and quality. If you can hire them go for it I'm sure they will be getting booked up soon.

We hired B Israel Photography for our wedding and engagement photography and had the best experience. This is the photographer to work with if you want a team that captures photos that look and feel authentic to you - - plus they care about their craft and delivering quality. They will capture your vision and go BEYOND with impressive shots you didn't expect, candid and posed. Things that make them stand a part: experienced photographers, fun to work with, sincerely want to "get" you not just some rinse and repeat typical wedding photos, so much value for your budget, they will rally even the most camera shy to enjoy it and look amazing, professional, quality prints, great communication and delivers on time (this alone is major, some photogs you need to do the follow up work to get your photos months after events)... so yes, rave review from these newlyweds! Cindy and Jay are the best!!

Julia shot a family picture of 11 of us for a 50th wedding anniversary gift. She was so easy to deal with as far as scheduling & worked around our limited availability. She suggested a park in our area & knew right where to go for some beautiful backdrops. Julia was positive, patient, professional, fun & got the job done. We were so pleased with the pictures & experienced none of the challenges we thought we could have due to the limited mobility of one of our family members & a light sprinkle. Nothing seemed to deter or derail her. I can't recommend her enough & don't be fooled by her young age.....she is talented beyond her years & has great equipment that made every single one of us look fantastic in the pictures. Thank you Julia!

From the get-go, Damian was super responsive, easy to communicate with, and his past work spoke for itself. We couldn’t wait to hire him for our wedding film. On wedding day, he and his team were so professional and discreet, I didn’t even notice they were there until after the ceremony! Of course we ran completely behind schedule at the reception, but he went above and beyond to stay an extra half an hour to capture what we had originally asked him to capture. Thank you Damian and Heart + Soul Films! We can’t wait to see our video!

We had Dennis photograph our wedding. I do not feel very comfortable in front of the camera and was very stressed about how the pictures would turn out. Dennis did a great job of keeping me at ease and I felt comfortable during the whole process. And our pictures turned out beautiful! We couldn't be happier. I also appreciated how professional and on track Dennis was. I wanted to make sure the portraits session didn't run long and dinner was served on time, which it was. We chose the digital wedding package which included an engagement session, which was a great, and for a small fee added a second photographer. We received our photos on disc; no prints. This was a great cost savings! We have full print rights to print the photos that we want and in the sizes we want, but didn't have to commit to those costs at the same time as all our other wedding expenses. Other photographers already have it determined what size, quantity, and albums you get in their packages (and reflected in their price), but none of those aligned with what we actually wanted in prints. Dennis was very easy to work with, and overall we were very pleased with both the experience and the how the photos turned out. I highly recommend him for any of your photography needsl

Sebastien was the solo photographer at my wedding and you won't believe how amazing this guy's work is until you see it for yourself. He always kept in touch with us in the months before the wedding with updates on things to be done. The speed of his email and text responses was definitely the best we got from any of our vendors. He was also really prompt to our hotel for the pre-wedding photos, and even helped us keep to our timeline throughout the day. For most photographers, you are advised to work with them first for your engagement, but with Sebastien we didn't need to do that at all - my wife and I felt very comfortable with him right from our very first Skype meeting. In addition, he made us laugh our socks off on the big day. He photographed the wedding of 140 all by himself and moved like a ninja while doing such a great job of capturing these awesome pictures (you don't even know he's there). Aside from the fact that the pictures were so natural (a style my wife and I both love), he delivered them in much less time than was stated on the contract - he said 6-8 weeks, but delivered in 4. You don't have to believe a word of what I'm saying, just check out his work on his website. He is a super photographer and I'm sure we'll be working with him again.

Both Lluvia and Jorge were so professional during the whole wedding process. They also were so fun and made us feel so comfortable. We looked into a few other photographers and for the work they put out they are beyond reasonably priced. I have used them as our photographers since 2011. We would not recommend any other photographers! We love you guys!!!!! 💜Jess and Rich

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
