William and his team went above and beyond with our bed bug problem. After being exposed at a hotel and contacting several exterminators, Protec was the only vendor that gave us confidence that they could fix our problem in a quick and efficient manner (which is so important with the amount of anxiety that comes along with these pests!!) He scheduled a treatment right away as well as a follow up appointment for reassurance. In between treatments William and his team were very responsive to every text and question we sent (at all times of day). I appreciated that they took the time to explain what were and weren't signs we should be looking for while other companies seem like they are just guessing. We have been symptom free since our last treatment which could not be more of a relief. Most exterminators don't exhibit the knowledge or confidence Protec did and are not interested in providing a guarantee which Protec gladly provided and honored. I would definitely hire them again if needed.

George is very professional. His team came to the property as scheduled and completed the fumigation in a reasonable time. Although the first fumigation didn't do the job, George had a two month guaranteed so I had him go back out again to redo the units to kill those roaches. Hopefully the second time is all we need. Thank you

Larry is great and doing the excellent job to helping me eliminate the roach problem that is going on in my house. I wish I had known about him before so I would not have wasted so much money on raid sprays and boric acid. Look no further in hiring someone to help you eliminate the problem! I have an exterminator for all my needs for life.

The best experience I've ever had with an exterminator! How many people can say that right? He is extremely professional & amazing at what he does. We had an extreme rat issue when we moved in & realized the previous owners had set rat traps everywhere, but we would notice droppings in several rooms & even on the dining table. Kevin found numerous holes in the outside of our home & on the roof, he patched them all up & set traps & no more droppings! He checked in with me daily & even came out again to make sure everything was squeaky clean. Honestly stop looking for anyone else & hire him. Beyond pleased! Thanks Kevin!

We experienced the devastating effects of finding out that we had bed bugs and Joe, our service technician was amazing! He came out for the initial inspection and arrived on time and he was thorough, efficient and told us exactly what we needed to do step by step to get rid of the pests. He also was understanding and patient with our questions. We set a date a week from the consultation to have him treat our home and we called him a couple of times with follow up questions and he made himself available, cheerfully, each time to answer our additional questions. He also gave us an extremely fair price and did a thorough job!! He was wonderful to work with and made a very stressful situation much better!! It has only been two days after the treatment but we have not seen any sign of those terrible pests......and with Joe's educating us thoroughly, we KNOW what to look for. He is the best!!! Thank you!

So I seen some droppings in the backyard behind the garage & thought I had Termites. I called to see how much it would cost to get an inspection & come to find out it was free. When Courtney arrived I showed him the area & he pointed out that it was just cricket droppings. He then inspected the house for termites & found none & not to be worried he did find a couple of areas that had dry rot on them & gave me a quote & he will be doing the work this upcoming week. I am so far really satisfied with his knowledge & really fair price. I think I’m going to refer him to a couple of my friends.

We have been homeowners for 14 years and have never hired pest control. We recently moved to a new home that has a lot of pests and wildlife. We were happy to get lucky with Ravega pest control. Marco came out asap and explained different solutions to take control of our yard. He offered us different options for maintenance. He also noticed termites which our home was supposed to be exterminated from the "home sale" inspection. Luckily Marco took pics and I was able to send the termites pics to the other pest control to come clean up their work. Thanks to Marco we feel like have a plan to rid of our brown widows and other pests. Would happily recommend him!

I needed my termite problem solved. I knew about having the house fumigated. I didn't know about subterranean termites, which Armen informed me about. He brought a high pressure sprayer, and his worker crawled under the two floors I have....the house is on a hillside, and as it goes up the hill has several floors close to the ground....and sprayed the underside of the floors to prevent subterranean termites from causing problems. He called the Gas Co. and arranged to have service discontinued on Friday, and reconnected the following Tuesday. A crew arrived a few days later, tented the house on Friday, and after 18 hours later, another crew came and dismantled the tenting. The total tenting job was tested the following Monday, and by Tuesday, the Gas Co. arrived and re-lighted all the pilots in stoves and tankless water heater. I was given a fair price....among 4-5 other bids....and he's working with me so I can pay this off comfortably. My impression is he was more worried about me getting my termite problem solved than anything else. He pointed out which plants I had near the house would have to be moved, or they'd die, then checked again when he arrived for the spraying phase. Armen's charges forward, and because he's the owner, no commission or salesman is used. This helped with his price to me. We talked while he was estimating, and we hit it off well. He put me at ease, and had a good conversation. He's friendly, and we amused ourselves, but he is very serious about getting the work done properly. I waited too long since the last fumigation.....20 years before. Luckily it didn't last very long, so the people living here were not inconvenienced very long. Once we moved back in, and had hot water again, life returned to normal. This was a big deal, which came and went before we knew it.

Mariners Pest Control was very prompt in quoting my job. I was unhappy with my previous Pest Control provider, and was looking to make a change. Mariners Pest Control provides a better service than those bigger companies by thoroughly inspecting and treating the outer perimeter of the property, and the technician also took the time to make sure everything was A-OK inside my home as well. We've had a problem with spiders over the last 6 months, and a member of my household formed an abscess from a spider bite that in my opinion would NOT have happened had I been with Mariners Pest Control – lesson learned. I'm so happy I found Mariners Pest Control. The customer service experience overall has been fantastic, and I feel they give a much more personal service than what I was receiving before with a larger company. I really feel like my spider problem is being taken seriously and handled appropriately now, along with preventing the usual spring and summer ant issues. Thank you Nathan and the Mariners Pest Control team!

I had a hard time finding a company that will help to resolve my pest problems. I found treebark online and I called them right away and I’m happy that they returned my call right away and needed to get done. They set a quick appointment and did a wonderful job. The exterminators came to our house was brisk. They did a thorough job; spraying all over through place and after that, they removed the pests. I saw an immediate result. This company was really in providing great customer service and care, the work they do for us is good and the price was right. Very reasonable! I’m a very satisfied customer. I will continue to use this service if ever I have a pest problem again.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How do you get rid of termites?

The best way to get rid of termites is to act fast. Termites are a problem that will only get worse — and no matter how much you want them to, they usually don’t magically move out on their own. There are three main types of termites: drywood, dampwood and subterranean. Drywood and dampwood termites sneak through cracks in your exterior paint, nail holes, and gaps near windows and other openings and begin to eat through your wood. Subterranean termites enter your house from the ground up by creating mud tunnels. In all cases, they survive by eating the wood of your house. The type of termites you have can steer the treatment plan.

Methods of termite extermination include fumigation, use of pesticides, and use of natural elements that are poisonous to the bugs. The extent of your termite infestation will help determine the treatment method. If you have drywood or dampwood termites that have infiltrated all aspects of the wood in your home, the pest control pro may recommend enclosing the whole house in a tent and gassing the termites via fumigation. If you have subterranean termites, often the entire footprint of the home must be treated by drilling liquid treatments into the slab or foundation of the home to exterminate the colonies. In any case, once you see signs of termites, it’s time to take action and call a pest pro.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

      • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
        • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
      • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
        • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
      • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
        • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.

How much does it cost to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches are not only ugly, they are difficult to get rid of. Quick and resilient, they can be hard to get rid of without professional help once they have inhabited a house. Nationally, the average range for cockroach pest control cost is $80-$130. Extermination professionals typically provide a free estimate to determine the extent of the infestation. They’ll check for the main sources of the bugs, identify bug access and entry points into your home, and determine the best method for elimination. There are a variety of cockroach extermination tools including gel baits and traps, pesticide foggers, desiccants (which dry out the cockroaches), neurotoxins, and other pesticides. Pest control costs can also cover preventive measures like regular spraying and trap maintenance. Some regions of the country are much more prone to cockroach problems than others, so pest control costs may need to be part of your quarterly budget. Cockroaches love dark, humid, and warm areas and water sources, so place traps near your washer and dryer and under your sinks.
