Very detailed assessment of the roof leaking problem. Using pictures on the roof he explained the roof leaking issue at multiple places. He was ready to work on it right away and within just a couple of hours, he fixed the roof leaking problem. The contract covers it for 2 years. He was very communicative and friendly.

We hired Excel Construction few months ago and we just finished our entire home remodeling project. We researched, met and interviewed few other remodeling companies before we decide to hire Excel Construction and we couldn’t be happier and more satisfied with our great decision. We love Eyal and the ideas/solutions that he brought to the project. His design team was perfect for us and they always has few options for us to think of before we took the right decision. We’ve noticed very clear that everyone on the job was skilled and professional in his own trade and specialty. They did a perfect job by keeping the house as clean as they could and they were very respectful of our space. We remodeled our entire house including the kitchen, bathrooms, living room, garage, laundry room and bedrooms!!! We are super happy with the new house that we got and the complete transformation of it. Excel Construction are highly recommended and we already recommended them to few of our friends.

Complete re-roof around 2000 sq ft. Removed 3 layers of old roofing. Installed all new plywood, underlayment and Oakridge cool roof shingles. Handled permits and city inspections and completed job in 4 straight days and came back for final inspection following week. Cleaned up every day. Good price. Final roof looks great. Even painted all vents to match shingles. I hope to not have issues, but if I do I am hopeful and confident that Carlos will respond in timely manner to any maintenance requests. Great job, thank you, and will hire again if need be on another project.

This letter will serve as a highly recommendation for the service that La Roca Builder did for us, on our new home construction. They have a great team that took care of all the guess work of home construction. They made sure we we’re always informed on how the city works with submitting plans and time frame of completion. We interviewed many contractors, but most of them couldn’t take care of the entire project and that’s why we hired them. Our home looks beautiful and we owe it all to Christian and his team from LA Rocca Builders not to mentioned J Balian Construction and Grandeur Construction, 3 teams, each team took care of different aspects of the projects all under one Roof; they all work together amazing! we love that they took care of it all, that made our new home build possible. 5 stars all the way Eddie Steeples Pacific Palisades P.S they wanted me to include that I was the actor that was on the show “My Name is Earl” aka “Crabman” And I gladly said yes, lol. Thanks Christian!

The team at GIM completed a whole home remodel with solar system. I was looking to make some energy efficient upgrades. My first home purchase and I was looking to invest a little on the interior since the home was a little out dated. They helped me to decide on what the interior finishes I wanted to go with. We ended up using spray foam for insulation, foam roof, and many other energy efficient upgrades. On top of that the solar system also comes with battery back up. Each step of the way I was informed, they even took care of the design and permit process. Great team on staff. Check them out for any construction needs. Appreciate all the hard work.

I met with Shawn Ross, owner of Ross Renovations, to discuss the repairs needed to fix my leaky roof. He was very knowledgeable and, after a thorough inspection of my roof, he patiently explained what should be done versus what he could do for the limited funds I have available. He was very friendly, upfront and courteous. I was very disappointed that I could not hire him to do my current repairs. I plan to keep his business card handy so that I can hire him for any home repairs I will need in the future.

I'm so glad that I chose CalPro over the roofing company that my sister recommended. When Art arrived, he made me aware of the condition that my roof was in. I knew it wasn't great, but he took pictures and really allowed me to make the right decision. My sister had recommended someone who did her roof, and was a little cheaper, but didn't have any financing options and when I started asking important questions like whether he was licensed and insured, that guy couldn't wait to get out of my house. Ironically, she has 2 leaks and has no idea when he'll get back out to fix them! CalPRO however showed up on time, cleaned up after themselves and were finished in 2 days! Art also spoke with Zac, his manager who was able to get me a little better price on insulating my attic at the same time as my roof! Overall my experience with CalPro Renovations was top notch and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to my friends and family.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
