John was awesome with training me and my dog. John took the time to get to know our needs and current situation and also helped us with dog socialization. John is very knowledgable and offered great expert advice. He also helped us with introduction to a dog park and helped me to understand the things to look for when introducting my dog into a new environment such as a dog park. I would highly recommend John to all my friends family and anyone else. He definitely helped with positive reinforcement.
KYM IMPROVED QUALITY OF LIFE FOR MY DOG AND I BOTH;SHE IS AWESOME! SHE KNOWS HER STUFF AND IS VERY KIND!Frida is my first dog & considered by some a "problem breed".I rescued her mother & siblings & found then all homes...except Frida, I chose her from the litter.Years before meeting Kym, I read up a bit. I did some things right for my puppy! Icrate trained her, and took her to puppy classes. She was easily potty trained, and trained not to bark, chew or nibble on fingers. She learned to sit, stay, fetch, and high five. She is very loyal& sweet and once scared off an intruder who came in through my kitchen window at night!!!! I thought everything was great. Frida always had a big yard, a bed inside, and always seemed happy. At about 6 years old, we moved to a smaller place. Frida had a dog run &we played often but @ 65 lbs, she needed to go on walks. I then realized what a naughty human I had been. Frida was totally unsocialized, she tugged on her leash, would nip if strangers tried to pet her, disliked children, and refused to come when I called her. She liked to chase motorcycles..skate boards, trucks, & cats.....oh my!I had inadvertently conditioned her to be a yard guard dog. ...with very poor social skills and bad manners. Total nightmare @ the park!I became so worried about her running off and her seemingly aggressive behavior, our walks became very stressful. I felt guilty and stressed!I tried a few trainers who suggested choke chains and various techniques until KYM RESCUED US!!!!! She convinced me to bring my 6 year old dog to puppy classes. I always say Kym trained me and my dog responded quickly. She didn't let me waste anymore time feeling worried our stressed. She was kind, patient, and well informed. It became a simple matter of me learning to understand my dogs needs and behavior. Frida comes when called, doesn't chase cars, and has even spent time at doggy day care with other dogs!!!!! She's even nice to the cable guy! Yet, I'm still confident Frida would stave off any intruders!Kym trained us both well!! I have my sweet best buddy back with more play options than ever! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND KYM FOR ANY DOGGY NEEDS YOU MAY HAVE!!!!
Denise started training my older Dog Ramsey who was very hard to walk because he is dog aggressive! But within days he was so much better. We really appreciate her knowledge of training animals. And her love and patience with them.
He is very good at explaining and teaching how to teach the dog. My dogs learned very quickly. Probably best when they are large dogs.
Daniel is super nice and great to work with. He is very knowledgeable about dogs and their behavior. We have only had 2 sessions so far but I have already learned so much. I am training one of my dogs to be a therapy dog so he is giving me a lot of information to help me be successful.
Steve is an incredible, elite master trainer. He holds the key to unlocking all of your dogs' best attributes. He has done wonders for my dogs, and I have witnessed him doing even more for others. There's nothing that this man can't fix about your dog. But, you must be willing to put in the time and do what it takes to maintain. I have two mixed breeds (brother and sister) that have severe separation anxiety, when they weren't near each other. They were completely co dependent on each other, fearful and extremely sensitive to everything around them. They would whine and bark when separated. Steve had them for less than two weeks, and now they have no problem, at all being separated. He taught me how to build their confidence, and help them succeed. Which has made training them in obedience much easier. They now have the will to work, and the desire to learn more. As do I. He has inspired me so much that it has now become my passion, and I am now his apprentice. What I love most about the way that he trains, is that he is very gentle and patient with the dogs. He is by far more concerned with the dogs' well-being than anything else. He can be pretty tough on the owners, but once you come to realize why, you really can't be mad at him. The issues that your dog has, are typically there because of you. Your dog is a mirror of yourself. Once you've accepted that, you can then both change together, building the bond between you and your dog even stronger. But, you must be part of the change in order for it to work. Wendy is my senior master trainer, and I have learned so much already from both of them. They have taught me beginner and advanced obedience, behavior work, tracking, scent detection, how to show in AKC competitions, how to train movie dogs, and much more. Through the skills that I have acquired from them, I am now teaching my own classes and training dogs daily, using the same incredible methods that these amazing dog trainers have taught me. I highly recommend Steve and Wendy, and all of their trainers to anyone who truly cares for their dog.
Tommy Stark does speak dog. He can teach a dog to do absolutely anything. I have watched him in dozens of situations, and he is always the pack leader; he always understands both a dog’s fears and its strengths. He trains fear out of a dog and builds on its strengths so that the dog becomes a well-balanced part of your “pack”. He is gentle but assetive with the dogs and very supportive of the people he is training. Tommy has a delightful sense of humor, great warmth, and genuine compassion for all living beings.
Arturo is such an amazing trainer!!! He has helped and coached us on how to control our dogs aggression. He not only trained our dog but taught us how to properly train her. He’s helped restore confidence both in us and our dog to allow her to be her loving social self again! We could not have done it without Arturos dedication and patience!
We are so grateful for finding Dogwood K9 Training Experience and working with Ron. Our rescue dog, Jackson, was a stray with no prior training and some behavioral issues that we couldn’t address on our own. Jackson had human aggression towards males, did not listen to commands, jumped on furniture, nipping, chasing our cats, incessant barking, anxiety, the list goes on. By working with Ron we have learned how to address all of these issues through behavior modification training. The best part of working with Ron is that he makes it fun for the dog by using games as a primary means of training. Jackson loves going to Ron’s classes and surprisingly isn’t aggressive towards him in any way, probably due to Ron’s sweet and caring nature towards dogs that Jackson can sense. Ron’s training method starts with the basics and then we build upon the foundation using baby steps so that the dog progressively works up the full commands, while truly understanding them. Our dog’s behavior has done a 180 since we started training and he shows respect for us now. This is after a different trainer told us we should probably take our dog to the shelter because he is going to be too hard train (a lost cause, as they say). Ron’s ultra-positive attitude towards Jackson helped us see that although he is not a perfect dog, he is the perfect dog for us. Ron is a truly exceptional dog trainer. Don’t expect magic; it takes hard work to counter-condition a dog with bad habits like Jackson, but Ron’s expertise will equip you with all of the tools that you need to work with your dog. What I like about the classes is that Ron is training ME to work with my dog so that I can continue to use his tactics long after our classes end. Through his guidance I am creating a long-lasting bond with my dog based on respect, but mostly based on FUN! We love Dogwood!
I first met Wendy through the City of Laguna Niguel dog training classes and she has been in our lives ever since. Her commanding personality and love for all dogs makes her the perfect dog trainer. Not to mention she picks up and delivers our dog when we need to go out of town! Penny is always excited about her time with Wendy and the other dogs and returns better behaved after a weekend with Wendy!!!
Our 1,5 yr old Goldendoodle is a changed dog after 4 lessons. Now we have a dog that listens and we feel confident she will obey off leash. We have previously gone to other places for training and I will say OffLeash training is the last place you will need to go...I just wish we went there first. Tom and his team are so easy to work with and are right there for any of your questions as you are going through the program. I wish I could give more than 5 stars...Thanks to Tom and crew
We rescued what I refer to as a special needs dog. Calle was two years old and everything frightened her. We knew we needed professional help. The first trainer we called couldnt make a connection with Calle. We then contacted Melissa based on reviews we read online. We were not disappointed! She really considered Calles needs and customized a plan to work on walking Calle on a leash, socialization, and potty training. It wasnt long before we were able to walk Calle in the neighborhood/park. The potty training techniques Melissa shared with us worked immediately! Melissa also met us at various places (shopping centers, park) to work on socialization skills. Melissas style is firm, yet so kind and gentle. She also did a great job educating me as a dog owner. In addition to training, Melissa is the (ONLY) person we count on for dog sitting. Even though Calle made enormous progress in the area of training, I wasnt so sure she would ever be comfortable away from home. I am happy to report I was wrong. She has overnight visits with Melissa about every six weeks and comes home a happy doggie NO anxiety. I highly recommend Melissa for her outstanding training techniques, knowledge, professionalism, reliability, and last but not least, her obvious love of dogs.
My husband and I and our two dogs, Megan and Remy, attended Dixie's obedience class in January 2013. Dixie is a patient and accomodating instructor. We appreciated the time she took with our dogs and others in the class to help us get it right! I also appreciate her support and referrals of my fledgling pet photography business. Dixie is the best!
I had to leave my 10 week old puppy for a pre-planned out of country trip for a 10 day board and train with Michael. When we returned, we were happy to see that our puppy was doing well and she came home with no issues. The Pros: Michael spends a lot of time with you to answer questions during the face to face consultation, which is nice. It was also great to see Michael's dog, Travis, and how amazingly well trained he is. Secondly, the price is very affordable when compared to other places for a board and train. Note: I cant really vouch for the training piece because our puppy is so young that she probably absorbed very little in the short period of time she was with him. She is a bit better on leash than before though and I am sure Michael and his dog Travis had a hand in that. The Cons: Michael wasn't very good with communication with me throughout the board and train. I would have really appreciated regular daily updates with pictures on how our little puppy was doing, but I received one update after several requests and so I just gave up. Our puppy also had diarrhea upon returning home and I cant say for sure whether she was being fed the food that I provided or not. I could have been more demanding and call and badger him but that's not really the type of person I am. Ultimately, for me, it would have been nice to receive unsolicited updates and information regarding my puppies stay with Michael. Overall I think Michael's services definitely has value. I would recommend him for anyone that is on a budget and has a dog that needs basic training in manners and socialization with other dogs. I would recommend him only for those owners that are very hands off and do not require a lot of feedback.
Audrey is excellent working with my pit/mastiff who had socialization issues.
My puppy, Khloe, just finished Connie's 6 week obedience class. Connie is a great trainer and Khloe learned a lot! I highly recommend her.
My dogs started training with Kate about a year ago when bf and I enrolled our newly adopted pup in a Petsmart training class. Kate is always upbeat, knowledgeable, and passionate about dog behavior. She's adept at training dogs and owners, as well as newer Petsmart trainers. When she started her own business we decided to continue with private lessons, Country Club, and Reactives Anonymous for both dogs. From underlying behavior issues to nutrition she connects the dots to form a holistic view of dog behavior. I like that she does not follow only one school of dog behavior training. She constantly learns and applies techniques that work well for you and your dog. Without getting too off track from this review, I will say she has changed the way I think about my dogs, even as someone who has raised and worked with animals for much of my life. She is so so insightful, always learning and excited to share her knowledge. Just follow her on Facebook and you'll learn something new!
LOVE this company! I've never had a dog walker before, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I was pleased to find out that Thor loves Megan, his new dog walker. Seeing as my work hours aren't getting any shorter, I'm happy I can trust Dogma to give me some peace of mind that Thor will be happy when I get home.
Kevin is a professional trainer: I was fortunate to have him answer my request for a puppy trainer: at the time two puppies...after one training session I realized that I had one puppy too many and found my aggressive puppy a kingdom of his own! giggle Kevin showed up on time each Saturday (6 lessons) and arrived prepared with a training agenda that he held to: My puppy is 4 months old, male and German Shepherd so it is extremely important because of the size dog he will become for him to have good training and manners! Kevin taught him: to sit/stay, to walk calmly on lead (not pulling on the leash), to go up and down a car loading ramp. I am (extremely grateful for this training because it is a relief to have it done in preparation for the future). Kevin and I walked 'Bear' down the street to socialize him with the neighbor dogs...he learned to walk by them without challenging them to a 'fence-run-bark'! We are still working on this. I was a bit apprehensive when beginning training and Kevin told me "when you are nervous it travels all the way down the leash in to the dog and the dog knows"... We graduated Basic obedience training last Saturday 12-17-16 and received a Merit Certificate for both of us and Bear received a Rawhide bone too. Kudos to Kevin for such good training and patience with both of us! I highly recommend him for your training needs...
Melissa has helped with our new dog who had serious abandonment issues. Our dog is now much more social and less anxious thru the positive training Melissa emphasized. She really loves her work.
Franco is the most amazing dog trainer! After much research, I decided to go with Franco over many other training classes. I am so glad I did. He trained my 12 week pug puppy. Franco provided a lot of useful information, education and modeled how to teach my puppy. Franco's classes are extremely reasonable in price...extremely competitive. Franco only uses positive reinforcement, which was very important to me in choosing a trainer. Franco was willing to answer any questions I had related to behaviors, food choices, or hygiene. I will definitely be back to work with Franco.
