Introduction: My experience sets me apart from the crowd. I've been teaching, performing, transcribing and recording professionally for over 20 years. I enjoy are the variety of material I get to teach. Each person who comes through my door has different tastes and I adjust the curriculum to their likes. I may go from a teen who loves heavy metal to a young girl who likes Taylor Swift and have a jazz band college student at the end of the day asking for help on a new chart, so variety just keeps things fresh.

Guitar Lessons (for adults)

Our son has been taking lessons with Tim since he was in kindergarten, almost 7 years. He began with a small acoustic guitar, moved to an electric guitar a couple years ago and is now playing jazz semi-hollow guitar. We think he has benefited most from the patient and careful instruction. The classes and material are continually customized to our son's interests, learning-style and needs as a student. Tim has been able to teach him both the instrument and music theory that has helped him succeed in joining a jazz band and a swing orchestra. We recommend without any reservation Tim as a music instructor.

My daughter has been going to Tim for guitar lessons for over a year. Tim has always impressed me with his professionalism, as well as his simplistic style. He's very talented at what he does. I also appreciate how he has kept my daughter interested in playing by allowing her to be involved in the music selected to learn each week. I've never regretted selecting him as our instructor.

I have taken guitar lessons from Tim for about a year and half. Even as an intermediate player Tim always has something new to show me. He is versatile in writing out TAB for any guitar song or solo I've selected. We discuss the key elements of any song and has elaborated on other areas I need improvement. I highly recommend Tim as a guitar teacher.

Cannot recommend Tim Wingate and Riviera Village School of Music any higher. Tim is an excellent guitarist, speedy transcriber, adjusts pace for your learning curve, and is fun to take lessons from. In a matter of minutes he can transcribe any song, even he's never heard it before. Most of all he is fun and makes you want to keep learning. So glad to have found him.

FAQs

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

A person with as little as 1-2 years experience may claim to be a 'guitar teacher'. They may charge less and may travel to get students but these typically aren't the people who do this for a career. They could even be in a successful band but take heed, it doesn't mean they know good technique or understand how to teach the instrument because they lack the years of study and experience required to do so efficiently. Case in point, if you take your education seriously, find someone, it doesn't have to be me, but find someone who has lots of experience teaching, good ears, and has made a living from the music industry. If you are looking for something just to occupy your time and just learn 'a little something' occasionally, save your hard earned money by going to youtube or hire the cheapest guy you can find to teach you 'Smoke On the Water' or Imagine Dragons' songs.
