"I felt compelled to write this review because I know from first hand experience just how difficult it is to find a good dog trainer, not to mention behaviorist. I've known many dog and horse "trainers" and I've learned over the years how crucial it is to find the right person for the job. I first met Emily when I started fostering a high energy, high drive pit mix. I had experience with pit bulls, but this guy was a sports car! He had been passed around a lot, and was very leash reactive. It didn't help that I was still grieving over the passing of my dog and a close friend and felt very unsure of myself. I called Emily because I was worried I would make the situation worse - she came to my rescue immediately. She doesn't just treat you like a "client", she takes her time to make sure you know she really has your back. She patiently let me express all of my concerns on the phone, then did a very helpful home visit, and after just a few group class sessions Hank and I had a completely different relationship and I decided to adopt him. Just this morning, I had a relaxing walk to the park, Hank in a relaxed heel in a martingale, where we then practiced some off leash focused heel, recall, and played fetch. All with numerous dogs running around. I take him with me to dog friendly stores and cafes, and am frequently complemented on his calm and well behaved demeanor. I even used the basics I learned in Emily's group class to help a panicked neighbor who had recently adopted a golden retriever who was extremely leash reactive and pulled like a freight train. Within 10 minutes, this dog was heeling calmly and happily next to my mom's little female pit bull. Here are a few points to sum up why I recommend Emily: a. She has compassion - Emily is there for both you and your dog and does not employ forceful techniques (they don't work!); she uses a calm, balanced approach that is tailored specifically for you and your dog b. She is easily reachable by phone and email c. She offers group classes and private lessons, and doesn't make you buy packages d. She is honest, kind, and a real no BS chick e. Aggressive dog? No problem - she'll work with it f. She has a long list of happy clients in Humboldt County - I would know, we go on pack walks together!"

"Steve is an incredible, elite master trainer. He holds the key to unlocking all of your dogs' best attributes. He has done wonders for my dogs, and I have witnessed him doing even more for others. There's nothing that this man can't fix about your dog. But, you must be willing to put in the time and do what it takes to maintain. I have two mixed breeds (brother and sister) that have severe separation anxiety, when they weren't near each other. They were completely co dependent on each other, fearful and extremely sensitive to everything around them. They would whine and bark when separated. Steve had them for less than two weeks, and now they have no problem, at all being separated. He taught me how to build their confidence, and help them succeed. Which has made training them in obedience much easier. They now have the will to work, and the desire to learn more. As do I. He has inspired me so much that it has now become my passion, and I am now his apprentice. What I love most about the way that he trains, is that he is very gentle and patient with the dogs. He is by far more concerned with the dogs' well-being than anything else. He can be pretty tough on the owners, but once you come to realize why, you really can't be mad at him. The issues that your dog has, are typically there because of you. Your dog is a mirror of yourself. Once you've accepted that, you can then both change together, building the bond between you and your dog even stronger. But, you must be part of the change in order for it to work. Wendy is my senior master trainer, and I have learned so much already from both of them. They have taught me beginner and advanced obedience, behavior work, tracking, scent detection, how to show in AKC competitions, how to train movie dogs, and much more. Through the skills that I have acquired from them, I am now teaching my own classes and training dogs daily, using the same incredible methods that these amazing dog trainers have taught me. I highly recommend Steve and Wendy, and all of their trainers to anyone who truly cares for their dog."
