Just moved into new home that was built in 1989. It is doubtful if the duct work was ever cleaned. Sean did a great job cleaning the ducts, cleaning the furnace, put in a new cleanable filter and cleaned the vent pipe to the dryer. I highly recommend this company as this is the only work that they specialize in.

Hector is so good in what he does. He did my kitchen faucet and re-attached my dishwasher at my newly remodeled kitchen in no time. Had a great sense of workmanship and very affordable price. I would recommend him not just to people I know but to everybody. This is your guy!

Jose was exactly who we needed for this job. We needed to remove a kitchen range hood, install an OTR microwave and do a little tile work to finish around the range. He was prompt, polite and professional. His work was excellent and he wasn't afraid to suggest solutions for our tile issue. Not only would we absolutely hire him again, we are making a list of things that we would like him to do. Trust me, Jose is the guy you need in your contact list to do those repairs that you have been putting off. Prices were fair for the work that was performed.

My husband and I needed a company to expand our driveway and adjust/repair sprinklers so we have full coverage because the lawn was dying. I got plenty of bids on this job. DG construction was very reasonable with their prices. David promised me they would start at 7 am the following day. Sure enough right on time the crew arrived at my home. They worked 12 hours straight to get the job done in two days. David went above and beyond to repair this tile that broke from my home and replaced the cylicone around my kitchen sink to prevent leaks. I didn't even ask for his help but he did anyways. This company is very trustworthy and honest. The job was done in a timely manner for the price agreed upon. I am definitely keeping their contact information for any future contractor needs. I highly recommend this company.

We have been working with Eddie on multiple properties for over 5 years now. His work has ranged from very simple to major remodeling and home repairs (plumbing, electrical, kitchen remodel, tile floors/counter tops, painting, roof repair and more). We really value his honesty, responsiveness and reliability. The guy is personable and he offers good ideas. And his work is very high quality, for very fair rates. A good contractor is a great resource - I would definitely recommend him.

I contacted 8 Services Carpet Cleaning LLC to clean our 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment when we moving out. I contacted them on short notice and was very pleased with their services that not only included deep cleaning the bathrooms and kitchen but also ceiling fans, windows and mirrors. I was equally pleased with the professionalism of the service I received. I definitely would use them again and highly recommend them to others.

I had him come to remove a ceiling fan and install a new ceiling fan and wall switch. Because did such a nice job, I had him remove and install two bath faucets one of which needed more repair than I thought. He also repaired my tub faucet which I knew needed lots of work. If I need anymore repairs, I will definitely call him.

We hired Louis after we had hired another company who ruined our kitchen cabinets. Louis was very professional and did an amazing job on our cabinets. He had to fix what the other company ruined. We would recommend Louis to anyone who wants to hire a professional who takes pride in their job. We are very happy with his work and can't wait to hire him again to do the rest of our cabinets in our house.

Yeah, apparently dryer vents need cleaning, and I was horrified to realize I hadn't had mine cleaned in 10 years. They came and replaced my dented dryer vent and cleaned everything. They were very prompt and professional. Now, no more fear of fires or a dented and deficient dryer vent. Worth it.

We used Daniel and DKS Cleaning Service when we moved out of our 3 bedroom house rental in Costa Mesa. First of all, Daniel communicated promptly from the start of our contact on Thumbtack. His quote was fair and about the same as the other three I received. Daniel called when he was on the way to our house on the day of our appointment, showed up on time, and brought a crew of two ladies that did an awesome job cleaning the house. Daniel's company also provides carpet cleaning and he charged such a fair price to clean all the carpet in our home that we had him also clean two big area rugs that we had in the garage. He uses all commercial grade equipment and chemicals and has many years experience in both the home cleaning and carpet cleaning industries. One last thing to add, this was a very stressful day/week for me and my husband as our family was moving out of a 3 bedroom 1600 sq foot home rental that we lived in for 5 years into our new home we purchased. Daniel and his crew were super nice, understanding, upbeat and let me know from the start that I was I good hands. I highly recommend this cleaning service and will probably hire them for twice monthly cleaning of my new home. Thanks again for making a stressful day so much easier.

We would like to commend Jeff Dunlap for the outstanding jobs he has done for us as a handyman. We have known him for about five years. He has done excellent work such as house painting, installing a new kitchen faucet, building a new kitchen cabinet, and numerous other tasks. No job seems too big or small for Jeff. Most importantly, he is honest, reliable, and always keeps us informed of his schedule. We would not hesitate to hire him to do any job around the house (both inside and out).

Casey took our kitchen aluminus ceiling out, and installed recess can lights. He did a beautiful job. He matched the drywall and drywall texture perfectly. He was in and out in one day. He was curtious, and my house was spotless. His pricing was fair, and he was on time. Will use him again.

I found Cory from another website and we first talked on the phone, he seemed really kind and knew what he is doing. He came to my house on time and assembled a very large computer desk I got from Office Max. It took him 4 hours, everything was in place and no damage at all. He cleaned after himself and he even took the boxes of the furniture to dump. Few weeks later, I got a tv stand from Best Buy, shoe rack and a small kitchen table from Ikea, I called him again and he offered me a very good price and since they were a lot less complicated pieces it took him 3 hours to assemble all. I can easily call him my regular handyman amd reccomend him to everyone.

Mr. Martin fixed a kitchen cabinet for me that was put up POORLY by someone who wanted to rush me out of his way. I had to have the wall opened behind 1 of my kitchen cabinets due to plumbing work. The person who took the cabinet down also put it back up; however, the cabinet was put up so POORLY that I was afraid to put anything in it. The shelves were so unbalanced! Mr. Martin had done some work for me in the past, so I called him to see if he could fix this mess, since I could not get in touch with the man who put the cabinet up. I didn’t have to make call after call after call to see where Mr. Martin was or when he was coming. He came when he said he would. After assessing the situation, Mr. Martin determined he could fix the cabinet. He gave me a detailed, written estimate & I scheduled a day for him to come back. I am SOOO pleased with the work he did (again)! I now have a cabinet that I am not afraid to put dishes in for fear of them falling out. I appreciate how careful he was not to damage anything. It felt like he was working in his house. On top of the work he did, I was pleasantly surprised that he cleaned up so thoroughly after he finished! I WILL be contacting Mr. Martin for anything else I need done around my home! I appreciate his integrity, professionalism, honestly and skill. I HIGHLY recommend Martin's Handyman Service. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, MR. MARTIN

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

How much does it cost to replace air ducts in a house?

If your air ducts have been damaged, you’ll need to replace them. The national average air duct replacement cost is $150-$280, which may not include materials. Factors such as duct material, labor, location of ducts and linear feet of ductwork will all affect your final costs. Labor costs will vary based on how accessible the ducts are and what material your ducts are made of. The least expensive duct material is a flexible, non-metallic ducting that costs approximately $1-$2 per linear foot. Flexible aluminum is generally more expensive and stronger than non-metallic ducting. Stainless steel ducting is the strongest, the least flexible (meaning installing it typically has higher labor rates), and usually the most expensive. An average price for air duct replacement could range between $35 and $55 per linear foot, including basic materials and labor. A typical single-family home has 6-10 duct runs; replacing or installing one duct run could average $150-$250 for labor.

How long does it take to get your ducts cleaned?

The amount of time air duct cleaning takes can depend on how extensive your duct system is, how old your air ducts are, and whether they have ever been cleaned. On average, expect a standard size home (between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet) to take 2-5 hours for one to two technicians to clean. Here are the proper protocol and equipment you should expect from a professional duct cleaning service, as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency:

    • All doors and access ports opened to ensure the entire duct system is inspected and cleaned.
    • Thorough system inspection prior to cleaning to identify possible asbestos-containing materials. If asbestos is present, specially trained and equipped contractors must do the removal.
    • Use of approved vacuum equipment that exhausts particles outside of your house. If the vacuum exhausts inside your home, it must be HEPA equipment.
    • Furnishings and carpet covered and protected.
    • Soft-bristled brushes only on fiberglass duct board and sheet metal ducts internally lined with fiberglass.
    • Ductwork properly protected.
    • Adherence to guidelines and practices set down by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association.

How much does it cost to have your air ducts cleaned?

If you’re concerned about dust, allergens or mold, it may be time to have your air ducts cleaned. The national average cost for air duct cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Air duct cleaning costs will vary based on a number of factors such as your location in the country, the age and condition of your air ducts, the number of linear feet to be cleaned, and any repairs your ducts may need. HVAC cleaning companies should clearly outline what is included in their services and at what rate, so always make sure you understand and have a written agreement before work begins. Here are some examples of average air duct cleaning costs:

    • Tiered pricing for different levels of service:
      • Standard cleaning: $100, which may include truck-mounted industrial vacuums, high-pressure air wands and air snakes to clean all supply and return vents, branch lines, and main trunk lines.
      • Advanced cleaning: $200, which may include standard cleaning services, plus rotobrush or viper clean sweep in the main trunk lines.
      • Ultimate cleaning: $400, which may include advanced cleaning, plus insertion of a viper microline into all vents to force debris down the branch lines and into the main trunk lines, to be handled by the viper clean sweep. Typically, all ductwork surface is contacted, before-and-after photos are provided, and the furnace is cleaned.
    • A flat rate for unlimited vents: $289.
    • Additional fees for larger houses: $20 for each additional 500 square feet over 2,500.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
