"It's a while (few years) since my last massage and needless to say I was a bit nervous about my appointment with Tony. The main reason being my experience last year with a therapist was by far the worst experience of my life (and I don't even count it as a massage). Tony was beyond AMAZING and God sent. He traveled to my house and worked with my very tight space. He was very in tuned with what my body needed and I dozed off several times during my therapy session. As a result I slept and woke up rested this morning. Thanks a million for your ministry of healing! "

"I absolutely LOVE anytime I am able to schedule with Christina. From the beginning of the session she was receptive to what I asked for but also guided me through exercises and stretches that can be done to activate or relax the muscles I wanted to target. Her professionalism is something I admired from start to finish. She was always sure to ask me if the pressure was right, if I wasn't already knocked out. The massage I got was a theraputic massage with aroma therapy. One massage I really look forward to with Christina will be the athletic massage. I would highly recommend to book at least an hour and a half session, because once that hour is done, oh you're going to want more time. Thanks Tina for your services and your kindness! I look forward to our next session!"

"I finally found a personal trainer that knows the difference in working a woman's body vs. a man's and Greg Chappel is the guy thats helping me get my body back. He is incredibly encouraging, pushes me but knows my limits as I get stronger. I HIGHLY recommend Greg...plus he is the nicest guy you will ever meet. The small gym atmosphere with a few other trainers and clients is cool too as we are all encouraging each other. Well worth my time and money!! Thanks Greg......"

"What I appreciate most about prime body works is that they understand the body on a technical level, like an experienced physical therapist. I go there when my lower back and hip pain becomes a distraction. Shawn knows what wrong based upon the pain that I have and ends up massaging me in places where I never know had muscle!"

"I really liked that David asked the level of massage I would like: easy, medium or hard. I asked for medium-hard. I also liked that he was fair and balanced in that he massaged the right side exactly as he did the left side. I will be going back to him. I highly recommend David."

"At GetUfit Massage, I receive the best therapeutic massage around from the Therapist Starr. The atmosphere and ambiance of GetUFit massage is a piece of heaven on earth, and the massage is healing, invigorating, therapeutic, and completely intoxicating. With stones, essential oils, hot towels, and many, many special types of message, the extraordinary therapist works her magic and reinvents you for an hour or more. It is addicting to say the least and a regular part of my program of working out, and health and wholeness at the GetUFit Gym. After working out, and then getting my weekly massage, I feel like a new person and able to be fluid and whole from the stress of life. Massage at GetUFit is truly nothing short of miraculous and part of the wholeness process I am on. A hearty thank you to Jennifer and Starr at GetUFit for being part of my life and health."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
