Reiki, Whole-istic massage therapy. With the softly, soothing sound of Tibetan chiming bowls filling the room, my sore muscles were kneaded deeply, and my agitated Prana was calmed, soothed, and realigned. Stephen Capucio is amazingy gifted, compassionate, and knowledgeable about his craft.

Brent is a great therapist and customer sensitive business owner - an all too rare combination. I had experienced incredibly intense and long lasting leg cramps which left me with extremely tight and painful muscles that all but immobilized me. Brent arrived on time and delivered a very effective treatment which gave me more relief than I had anticipated. He applied just the right level of pressure in his deep tissue massage; sufficient as to break down the extreme tightness, but not so much as to cause me too much discomfort. He delivers great therapy and value for money of a kind I've seldom enjoyed.

Jacquie has helped me make breakthroughs and release some issues that have lingered for years despite various modalities of therapy. It's also empowering work as she teaches me tools along the way. You'll need to be clear about what you want to heal though in order to experience the power of the work.

I rarely take the time to write reviews, but Mr. Maxwell was able to pinpoint various places on my back and neck that carry considerable tension since a terrible car accident years ago. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a massage for therapy or relaxation. It is very noticeable that Mr. Maxwell takes a great amount of pride in his work and desires to help his clients heal. Thank you, Mr. Maxwell for the wonderful experience!

Massage after car accident - I am so thankful Ping can bring the table, electric blanket and therapy to my house. I have two toddlers and scheduling a sitter for 1hr massage is too much so they play while she treats my back pain.

Lori is a wonderful Reiki Master practitioner. I am undergoing health issues and want to heal using main stream and alternative therapies. I read that Reiki has shown to boost the immune system. Lori is down to earth, very humble and I feel at ease when she is performing her techniques . She is a God send. I signed up for additional sessions and I always look forward to seeing her, she keeps me balanced and I feel energized when I leave. I would highly recommend her if you are pursuing the Reiki System.

I was in Las Vegas visiting and after a long, hot day walking on the strip with my backpack full of camera gear, my shoulders, neck and legs were in quite a bit of pain. I found Kelly Ann's website and thought I would give her a try. Making an appointment with her was as easy as calling her. She was pleasant and professional to deal with on the phone. She sent me directions that were easy to follow, even for a tourist. Upon arriving at Kelly Ann's upscale area, I was greeted with a warm and compassionate smile and invited into an immaculate home. Kelly Ann introduced herself and escorted me to her Reiki studio which includes a full bathroom with shower separate from her work/therapy area. The bathroom was very clean and well equipped with quality linens and bath products. The studio was also very clean and well organized with a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere. The massage table Kelly Ann uses is very wide and comfortable and felt solid when I laid down on it. Before starting, Kelly Ann took the time to understand my needs and what areas of concern I had. Using her gift of Reiki, she worked on my shoulders and neck. She even brought to my attention areas of my body that I had no idea were tense. The technique and movements she uses to work the muscles is truly amazing. Her healing power is even more amazing. I noticed this especially in my calves because they are usually too sensitive to even be touched lightly. Kelly Ann was able to work them easily without any discomfort. Thirty minutes after leaving I was amazed at how good my whole body felt. I noticed especially in my legs, which felt twenty years younger. My aches and pains gone. I felt rejuvenated. All in all, five stars is not enough for what she provides - you get so much more then just a massage - you get her master touch and love of healing the body.

I suffer a chronic pain problem in my leg. I am in pain management for it. After trying different types of massages Ephraim helped me tremendously. I was able to lower the dosage of my medication and increase my mobility through his massage therapy. I'm finally able to walk without a cane. The result were absolutely amazing! I had my doubts because I had tried so many other things. Thank you Ephraim!

About

I'm very into alternative medicines. The use of essential oils and hot stones, body scrubs, and balms. I practice a little acupressure, and can even perform Reiki and/ or work directly on the area that needs treatment. Muscles store memories. If you're looking to heal yourself inside and out, I can work on you and find the areas where you're storing your trauma, pain, and stresses. Through stretching, massages, and exercising particular muscles, you're on your way to a new and improved you. There are also some exercises that you can choose to perform before your massage, that will greatly improve the quality. You can choose to do these before coming in, or wait until our appointment so that I can guide you through them. I recommend this for at least the first couple times, as this will be a very strange and amazing experience. We will start by fatiguing specific muscles, then I'll have you lay down on a mat and slightly tilt your pelvis up towards your ribs with your knees parallel to your hips. Your muscles will begin involuntarily shaking, and depending on where you hold your tension, the shaking can make it all the way up to your neck. The shaking is proven to be extraordinarily great at releasing the tension in your muscles.

About

I try to approach each and every massage as the unique session that it is given where my client is mentally, emotionally and physically at that time. Your needs, at one point, may be entirely different at another. I am results oriented. I enjoy restoring functional ease and balance to my clients and improving their moods simultaneously, so I aim for a combination of relaxation techniques and effective ones. I'm a firm believer in our body's ability to heal, given proper care, rest, relaxation, joy and nutrition. I'm also a firm believer in being and feeling the best that we can in order to reach our fullest potential every day, however, that may be expressed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

  • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
  • Nutritional medicine
  • Botanical medicine
  • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
  • Hygiene
  • Counseling
  • Minor surgery
  • Homeopathy
  • Acupuncture
  • Intravenous and injection therapy
  • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

  • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
    • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
  • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
    • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
    • Do I need a referral?
    • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
    • What will the co-pay be?
    • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
  • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.

Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.
