I had a plumbing repair that required new fittings as well as treatment of wet wood. Michael was on time, efficient and neat. His price was reasonable and his explanation of what needed to be done was understandable. I would use this service again.

When I tell you that it was 110 degrees outside, and John worked upstairs, non-stop without complaining!... He not only assembled my TV cabinet, but he also put together the TV, and programmed it. Never complained, never stopped working, and was totally pleasant, and responsive. We need to clone him! I loved the finished product, and I will use John continually.

If there were a sixth star, I would award it to Osbaldo. This is a bit of a late review as the project was completed prior to Thanksgiving 2014. We had carpeting, tile, and baseboard removed. New tile was laid in the kitchen and half bath. Hardwood flooring and 5 1/4" baseboard were installed in the family room. Moreover, a custom hearth, mantel, and stone facade were added to the fireplace. The result was excellent and we are still pleased with the craftsmanship. We will be hiring Osbaldo again for additional projects.

My husband and father-in-law had spent two weekends on a kitchen project before finally accepting that they needed a professional to hang the cabinets. Steve had the job done in 1.5 days and saved us from making some pretty big mistakes! Steve is friendly, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. He also has a cabinet shop and was able to make some custom pieces for us and help us with putting knobs and pulls on our cabinets. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Steve, we are so happy with the work that he did and would recommend him to anyone without hesitation.

Gennadiy installed siding for me outside a remodeled bathroom. I had the old fashioned redwood materials custom ordered from a mill, but installing them was a somewhat complex job that I didn't feel comfortable tackling. Gennadiy installed all the materials perfectly, including the window and corner trim pieces. Everything was installed straight and tight, with primer on both sides, so I think this job is going to last many decades. Thanks for the great work, Gennadiy!

Installed a TV (65") wall mount over a custom fire place wall. Stephen took the initiative to drive to the nearest hardware store and picked up what was needed for the job. Professional and knows what he is doing. Great guy!

Kurt suggested instead of just doing Cabinet refinishing in the kitchen to do the cabinets throughout the entire home since they were identical throughout and all could use the upgraded look.

Our 30 year old kitchen needed a make over and we were undecided on whether to replace our cabinets or just refinish the old ones. We talked to several contractors and cabinet makers and were very impressed with Josh and his work. Josh is a true craftsman. He takes the extra time to ensure that you have a great end result. He cares about his craft and it is evident in the final product. Josh is also very easy to work with. He made our whole remodel process run as smoothly as possible. He listened to our needs and every suggestion he had was spot on. We are recommending Josh to everyone we know! He was a great find and we will definitely call on Josh for our future cabinetry and wood working needs. Thanks Josh!

Mark is absolutely amazing! I wish all contractors could be like him. He is professional, friendly, very courteous, and his work is beautiful. I hired him to make custom cabinets for the bathrooms and he walked me through each step to customize my design. When he was unable to find a matching color for the countertop, he contacted a company he works with so I could look through pieces of granite and find a match. He installed the cabinets this weekend and the workmanship is beautiful. Solid wood, matching stain, and soft closing drawers. The price is on point as well. I would venture to guess that something of this size would be about the same price at Ikea, or some other cheap furniture place that uses particle board and laminate. I will be using Mark for all my custom woodwork needs - and there will be plenty.

This project was to remove the cooktop and wall oven from our 30 year old house and install a range, refrigerator and range hood. This entailed reversing the fridge and range positions, building new custom cabinets, moving power, water connections, adding power for the range hood. It was difficult to find companies who would even propose for the job. Scott saw the full job more clearly than the other estimators and, amazingly, possessed all the skills to do the various tasks. His proposal was clear and explicit. He was competent, quick and thorough. He communicated well and was considerate of our time. The remodeled kitchen now gives us more food prep area and looks great. We have added drawers where we had false drawer fronts before. We found Scott through this site we'd never heard of before and are glad we did.

We hired Rich to reface our kitchen cabinets and are so happy with his workmanship, quality and his determination to get the job done in a timely manner. Rich was reliable and cleaned up every day he came to work. I had three bids and found that Rich was very reasonable and we were sold on his expertise. We will definitely use Rich again.

Tom Mann was very professional from the beginning. He showed up on time for doing the job bid and was very thorough and complete in the bidding process. No surprises. He and his crew were very polite and punctual. The work they did was excellent and I am happy every day with the quality. They always explained what was happening and did a great job containing the paint fumes & dust so the rest of the house was odor and dust free. I had my old oak stair banister, hall cabinets and bath vanity done in white. Everything looks new and beautiful! I was able to save money with NHance instead of replacing the cabinet or banister and end up with a job that looks brand new and has a long lasting finish. I will definitely use them again on future projects.

Beautiful work, on time, great pricing. This guy knows his stuff! He built a corner of cabinetry to match our vintage kitchen, and I will go back to him for more when we are ready to continue re-arranging our cabinetry. He keeps up with the new trends, but knows the old-school craft, too.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

    How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
