Mr. Aguilar was the first to respond to my request and followed through with a call back. He was honest, polite, and finished the job right on time and within budget. He explained everything from beginning to end and made recommendations for the safety of my house...which I am going to follow through with. I would highly recommend he and his crew to anyone who wants a professional job done. Thank you Ubaldo Aguilar Roofing.

The ROOF no longer leaks thanks to the professional and courteous staff of GBC Roofing Company. Their response to my phone call, setting an appointment for an estimate was immediate. The tech arrived on time. (even though it was pouring rain). When the weather cleared the roof was fixed. Thank you GBC. Highly recommend to others.

I contacted Belru about laminate floor installation. Maks responded immediately and was willing to work with my tiny budget. We ultimately decided to do the project ourselves due to financial reasons but I was so impressed with Maks's customer service. I would highly recommend Belru and I will definitely contact again for future home improvement projects!

BC General Contractor have honored every verbal commitment they have made regarding approximately 4,000 sq. feet. The job was a 50 year old flat roof with numerous drainage problems and leaks. (A flat roof is harder to make waterproof as opposed to a sloped roof. My 0pinion). I would hire BC General Contractor again and would recomend to others

Fernando was a pleasure to work with and very responsive. He built us extra shelves in our shed and assembled a ramp kit I bought online for it. I am very happy with the work he performed! I would caution to be careful when asking for a quote vs his hourly rate since his quote is a flat rate regardless if he finishes it in less time. The difference was not disclosed to me so I was under the impression the quote followed the same hourly rate he was charging. So in short, if you know how many hours your project will take, simply hire him for the hourly rate instead of the quoted flat rate for a project as it may be a better value. Overall, I would hire him again as it was a good experience and his punctuality was top notch!

We just bought our home and had a roof inspection that said we should be OK for another 3-5 years. We got a leak within the first month during the first bit of rain. I was frantic about finding someone to come out today. I called Ray and he said he could meet me at my home within 30 minutes. He almost beat me home. He had his men up on the roof checking for problem areas. They were able to glue down some loose areas. I felt that Ray knew roofing and trusted his advice and suggestions with repair and eventual re roofing. We will be contacting him again for any future roofing needs first.

Our new roof looks great! Roof Life Company did a fantastic job. Our previous roof was shake, so they had to tear off the old roof, put up radiant barrier plywood, and add more insulation to the attic before starting with the actual shingles. We also had new gutters and gutter guards installed as well as a weather vane. The workers were all very polite and seemed to know what they were doing. The re-roofing started a little later than we thought and took a little longer, but the extreme heat caused delays. Joshua brought out samples of the different gutter guards, and even allowed us to change the color of the gutters we had originally picked. I liked that there wasn't a hard sales pitch and it was easy to get in touch with the company when we had questions. It hasn't rained yet, but we're not expecting any problems.

Guy Hernandez with Performance Roofing was great! He was able to come out the same morning we spoke and fix my mother's leaky roof. He diagnosed the problem area right away fixed it before it rained again the next day. His quick response time kept ceiling damage to a minimum and the cost was reasonable. Would highly recommend Performance Roofing to friends and neighbors. Kem G.

Doug was prompt and really helped me out of a fast-track situation with my kitchen remodel. He patched a bunch of holes, helped smooth texture transitions from the dining room to the kitchen, and did the plumbing work. All this was needed in a short time in prep for the new cabinets and Doug came through for us big time. His prices were reasonable. Thank you!

After researching many companies, I found The Solar Bros on Yelp last year and decided to give them a call because of all the great reviews they had. We spoke to Jacob who did a phone interview first and asked me all of the initial questions about our current usage, PG&E billing, and what our ultimate goals were for solar power. After the phone call, a home visit was scheduled about two days later where he came out and showed us a customized presentation for our house and how we could best achieve 100% solar generation for the lowest cost. The Solar Bros have industry leading panels to achieve a higher power output per panel than any other manufacturer. We were able to purchase less of their 360 watt panels than would have been necessary from a competitor with 260 watt panels. The Solar Bros also uses "micro inverters", which means each panel on the roof has it's own power inverter which makes having one central inverter unnecessary. This is great for future expansion to add more panels as central inverters can only handle a limited number of panels per unit. The Solar Bros warranty is also pretty great. They offer 25 years on both the product and power generation, claiming that their panels will still generate 60% more power at the 25 year mark than the current competitions' product. After the in-home meeting I received one more quote from another local solar company, but they could not beat the price+minimum number of panels+warranty that ultimately sold us on The Solar Bros. We did decide to purchase/finance as opposed to leasing the equipment. Once we gave approval to The Solar Bros to proceed, the loan process and inspection all happened within a week after. Initially they had told us it could be up to 6-8 weeks before our installation date, so imagine my shock when they called to schedule the installation only two weeks later! The installation crew did a great job for us. The install took two days. On day one they removed the concrete tiles where the panel mounts go, attached the panel mounting hardware to the roof, and installed the flashing around them. On day two they installed the panels, the control unit, and wired everything up. All of the workers were friendly and they were even considerate enough to cordon off our front garden area to prevent anyone from accidentally stepping in it. The city inspector came that afternoon and signed off on the work. Before they left I was shown the complete system and all of the work done; plus they assisted me with creating an account and downloading the iPhone monitoring app. The last step was to wait for authorization from PG&E to flip the switch and go live with solar! I received email notification from PG&E about five days later so I went to the garage and (unceremoniously) turned on the solar breakers to activate the system. We've been running since January 14th and it's been pretty awesome to see in the monitoring software how much power we generate vs. how much we use each day. Slightly less than a month from start to finish and an easy and professional experience from these folks!

Lee came to our house at the time he promised. He brought two men and they loaded our furniture on his flat bed trailer quickly and safely. The entire experience didn't take long at all. The cost of removing this furniture was very reasonable and I recommend Lee's services to any and all. Dick Reynolds

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.
