Tiffany was an excellent and trustworthy sitter. Our young cat (under 1 year) did not lack for attention. She kept us apprised of how he was, including texting photos and reported on his comfort and behavior. We would highly recommend her. We will be engaging her again soon. Our kitty clearly felt good around her. Teis and Gloria

I had to go out of town to attend my son's wedding and Danielle cared for all my dogs in her home. All dogs were well cared for. They were clean when I picked them up, and very happy. I always leave my furkids with her when I go out of town. I know my dogs are secure and happy. I have not had a bad experience in the 7 years she has cared for my dogs.

It's comforting to return home and see that your pets enjoyed being with the sitter and the house is tidy. I feel confident that when I leave my pets with Roseanne, they are in good hands and that she will treat them well.

I think Kelly is the perfect choice for Missy! I think she's the perfect choice to train me! She commands respect from the dog and to my surprise, it actually worked on Missy, from the moment Kelly walked through the door. She has a calm and very effective manor. Somehow Missy knew who was in charge I feel lucky to have found her. Another plus, she comes to where the dog lives which I think is fantastic. Kelly is really a nice person and I like her a lot. She was kind enough to bring some very generous samples of her home made dog treats which I shared with my daughter who has two dogs and all three dogs rated them 4 paws up. Thanks Kelly

Heather is excellent! she is 100% accountable, professional, trustworthy, punctual, flexible, caring and my puppy loves her! She sends me updates on how he is during the day, photos of playtime and has even taken him to the vet when he got a bit sick from too much rawhide. She was exactly what i was looking for in a dog sitter and i can say after 2 months - i'd be lost without her:) Thank you Heather! love Laura and Spike

I contacted Karen last year to take care of my cat Bryan while we were away in Peru for 2 weeks during the holidays. Karen was able to accomodate specific instructions concerning bryan and even went out of her way to give me an affordable price for a twice a day visit. I was initially impressed with how thorough Karen was! She has a professional form to fill out so you can put all of the specific details about your pet and their care on paper. This was particularly helpful for me since I wanted to make sure all of the details about Bryan were outlined. The form even includes a section so you can put any other items beyond pet care that you may require while away. I needed the mail collected, garbage taken out, delivered packages brought in, garden watered and house plant care. Karen went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of. I recently moved from Carmichael to Folsom and asked Karen to cat sit again for a week while I was out of state. She was able to drop by before I left town to discuss the particulars of the new house and visit with Bryan. Both times Karen has taken care of Bryan I have been please with her work. She emailed me status updates while I was out of the country and texted me updates while I was out of state. This was very comforting to me because I was missing my boy! On both occassions our flights were delayed and/or cancelled making our return day/time prolonged. Karen was able to drop back by the house and care for Bryan on short notice due to the flight problems which was a relief during a stressful time for us! Karen is absolutely the best! We could not be more pleased with her. We will continue to seek her assistance every time we need a pet sitter for sure!

Julie loves pets and is very responsible. She has watched my house, brought in mail, dealt with garbage cans and taken great care of my 2 dogs and my parents' dog, all at the same time. She will even send you pictures of your pet, at home waiting for you, and send them to you via email or your cell phone. Julie loves to go above and beyond the expected. Miss Rainicia took care of our twodogs and a cat several times at a very reasonable pay. She always have kept us informed whenever my fiance and I are out of town for few days about how our pets are doing. She is great with our little pit bull because she is very energetic and hyperactive. Rainicia was excellent at keeping our pit bull stay active and keep up with her daily routine as well as our other pets while we are gone without a worry. She is a very trust worthy pet-sitter. I highly recommend her.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

    • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
    • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
      • 45-minute visit: $28.
      • 60-minute visit: $32.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
    • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
      • 12 hours: $100.
      • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
