"Best massage in the OC. After getting back into a routine of intense workouts, Cedric was able to soothe many of my aching muscles. His technique is smooth but gentle and strong. The spa location is also a great gem to find and includes facials, a gym and many more items. I will definitely return!"

"Tonda is the best functional medicine/energy medicine.... massage therapist/biofeedback practitioner that I have ever been treated by. She provided amazing/life saving treatment for my golden-doodle. She is way more than just a massage therapist - she uses her medical intuitive skills along with her 30 years experience as a biofeedback therapist to confirm the cause of the animals challenge- usually a combination of emotional blocks, with subclinical infection and chemicals/heavy metals- and then treats it with her device and gets amazing results! "Jenni gives the best massages I've ever received. I've been to several therapists over time and I'd easily rate hers the best. She knows how to get the trouble spots without torturing you as well as just a really relaxing overall experience. She's very kind, professional, and meets my requests for the day - level of firmness, specific areas, etc. Love Jenni's massages!!"

"I started training with Greg in August 2015 because I had a fitness goal that I didn't know who to attain on my own. I didn't have any experience lifting weights and I had a hard time motivating myself to workout at home. Greg introduced me to weightlifting. He ensured I used proper form and lifted the right amount of weight for me. Then, he customized a plan, which included personalized workouts, to help me reach my goal. I love working out with Greg because he keeps me accountable, he's extremely positive, and he's great at motivating me to push myself. Even though I reached my original fitness goal months ago, I still workout with Greg multiple times every week. His expertise continues to impress me, and I love the results his workouts produce."

"Kathy is phenomenal! She is patient like mother Teresa and that is critical for someone like me that hates exercise and avoids it like the plague. She makes it fun and the time goes by very quickly! Kathy is also what I call a body specialist she stretches you using various techniques and also uses reflexology to help your body heal and work better. Kathy has restored my husband's back and has helped me tremendously w my self esteem And motivation she is a blessing! "

"I have been getting massage from John for the last 8 months. He is very professional and has a confidence that makes me feel comfortable with him. He is a fountain of knowledge about the body and shares information not only about exercise but other factors in your life that affect how you are feeling. I have been getting massages for over 20 years and I would rate John among my top two therapists. "

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
