Jeff came out and inspected my residence at the agreed upon time. He took the time to explain the reasons for tent fumigation vs. spot treatment for termites which was very helpful. Finding companies like Halo that treat termite infestations and repair the related damage Great!

A friend recommended Contemporary Design Builders to me when I told him i wanted to remodel my house. I hired Contemporary Design Builders later after comparing it with several other companies. The project was pretty long. I am very happy with the new living room they designed for me. Great work done.

At the beginning of the summer Barlows helped me eliminate my ant problem. They were the only company I found that offered a 3 month guarantee. They told me they could help me and that I would end up loving them - they were right! Five months later and I have not seen one ant in my house - not one. I DO love Barlows!

After trying to get quotes Robert Lindstrom Nationwide Secure Inc. was the only company to contact me back promptly (I contacted 3 other construction companies none of which called back!) He was very patient with us as our schedules constantly change. Provided excellent expertise on what needed to be fixed. Even waited for a while before was let onto the property. Have not yet booked anything to be repaired but good business begins with excellent "customer service." Because of that will definitely consider for other work we need to get done for commercial office and home repairs.

In general with the way society has become so detached and lost in the way we interact with each other I really appreciated Jeremy taking the time to educate me about my bug problem. He explained what to look for and what would need to be done in the event that I need his services. I felt like he cared about making sure I had peace of mind and didn’t pressure me to hire him. His rates are affordable and a company that I will definitely hire if it turns out that my house needs to be treated. Thank you Jeremy!

Rick of American Pest Control is an extremely caring guy! We were having a lot of issues with our landlord dealing with the bed bugs problem so it took a while to get Rick in here. I had to cancel on him numerous times and instead of getting frustrated with us he sent me an email that said to let him know at any time if we still need his help! After the landlords guys failed. Rick stepped back in and came out the next morning to inspect the units, is coming back in on friday morning for heat treatment! I'm so excited as i've been waiting for a LONG time to find someone as great as American Pest control. He tore our house apart until he found a "sample" live bedbug! unlike other inspectors who have come in and found nothing because they hardly looked! I would also like to add that because of him, we are also FINALLY getting our fire escape bars on our bedroom fixed!!! He cant get his equipment in without that fixed!! Woot Woot!! THANK YOU Rick for everything!!!

Ron is a total pro. He and his team over-delivered in every way. We had the all too common San Diego rodent problem (laundry room and attic) and Ron found all of their secret entry points and sealed them up. Our home was disinfected and spotless when they left. I highly recommend Ron and 911 Restoration.

We were very happy with the service provided by Kirby from Pestmaster Services - we only had a small wasp nest to remove, and after looking at it he charged even less than this original online quote. As a bonus, he removed some snails and other misc. debris from the building while he was here. Quick, prompt response, integrity and going above and beyond - what more can you ask for?? Thank you Kirby!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How do you get bed bugs and how do you get rid of them?

The increase in bed bug infestations in the U.S. is a result of increased travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices, explains the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s easy to mistake bed bugs for carpet beetles or similar-looking bugs, so infestations are often not noticed when they first occur. Prevention tips include keeping areas free of clutter, regularly washing sheets and mattress covers in hot water (and don’t forget to wash the laundry bag, too), and vacuuming regularly and safely disposing of the sealed vacuum bag. Not everyone has reactions to bed bug bites, which also may be mistaken for the bites of other pests such as mosquitoes, so timely bed bug extermination depends on identification of bed bug activity. If you notice physical signs of an infestation, contact a bed bug extermination professional as soon as possible to learn about chemical and non-chemical (such as heat) treatment options. An integrated pest management plan may incorporate one or more methods.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to kill bed bugs?

The cost of bed bug extermination depends primarily on how widespread the pest infestation is and how many rooms need to be treated. Other factors that can affect bed bug extermination costs are the amount of clutter in the location, additional furniture that needs to be treated, and construction of the home. Pest management professionals often have rates for room treatments, which can vary based on these factors. As an example, a pest management company treating a 10-by-15-foot room with light infestation might charge clients about $250, while the same size room with a heavy infestation and large amounts of clutter might cost the clients $300-$400. Clutter and heavier bed bug populations mean more product and longer labor time for the workers. Rates will vary from company to company, and from region to region, but the national average bed bug extermination cost is $320-$400. Bed bug heat treatments are an alternative way to exterminate these pests. Heat treatments are typically charged per square foot and tend to cost more than chemical or non-chemical spray solutions. Although effective, they are not usually recommended for occupied spaces, as the extreme temperatures can damage televisions, window dressings and other home furnishings.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
    • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
    • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
  • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
    • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.
