We recently bought an older fixer upper and Jose has helped us with several jobs. He removed popcorn ceiling, texturized, put in new drywall and pot lights, did painting, installed floor tile, and is now tiling my new shower. He has a lot of overall construction experience and brings important knowledge to the job. His work has been quality and looks really nice. His pricing is very competitive and he is responsive and easy to work with. We had a few last minute delays on our end getting materials and he kindly rescheduled several times. We are going to work with him on some outside hardscape and fencing as well. We highly recommend Jose and his team. (I will add some photos soon)

If you're anything like me, you probably tend to be suspicious of online reviews. I didn't know Juan prior to getting in contact with him via this website. I was looking to get a TV mounted. However considering what I was looking to have done, it was going to be more than just having a TV mounted. I wanted the TV mounted above my fireplace. I also wanted a new power outlet installed behind the TV and didn't want any cables to be visible. This was going to involve electrical and drywall. Juan did an amazing job. The TV looks great. It's mounted, looks clean, no visible cables, drywall looks as it did prior to the job. He quoted me a very fair price for all the work, was on time, and very professional. I'll be getting in contact with Juan in the near future for other home projects. I would certainly recommend him.

Keith repaired our drywall to perfection! He returned two days in a row to make sure that the drywall mud was drying properly. It was not a large job by any means, but Keith insisted on going the extra mile. Great job! We will definitely use his company again.

Mathew did some baseboard repairs for us and did an exemplary job. In addition to the 4 areas that we'd discussed he identified a couple additional areas and repaired them with no additional charge. After the job, Mathew called to follow up and make sure I was satisfied with the results. We look forward to working with him in the future!

We used Donaldo and his team to paint interior rooms in our house. We had wallpaper in the kids playroom and Donaldo recommended we plaster and paint over it so we wouldn't damage the drywall. It turned out perfect. We also asked him to install baseboards so he included that in the project. Not only did his team install the baseboards but he was able to pick them up for me since I didn't have a vehicle that would fit the bundle we purchased. We also needed him to fix my bad attempt to blend texture on a new drywall we installed. that also came out perfect. His team was very accommodating to changes we requested, and they also were able to take on the job on short notice. I would absolutely recommend Donaldo for any painting project you have.

Jose from JP Custom Home Construction is a total pro. Courteous, punctual, and a great value. I scraped a popcorn ceiling in one of my bedrooms; Jose sanded, taped, texturized, painted, ran electric, and installed a ceiling fan/light. Amazing work. I will definitely be using this little company again!

Marathon is the only company I trust to work on my 2 homes. They remodeled my out dated 3 bed/1 bath house and turned it into a beautiful and spacious 3 bed/2 bath. They up graded my galley kitchen and turned it into a gorgeous and spacious open kitchen. They added a much needed bathroom, turned my very small living room into a great room, gave me functional closets, extra storage space and got rid of that unsightly popcorn ceiling. Isaac worked with me hand-in-hand from start to finish and insured I was happy with the progress on my house. He did excellent work from design, to demolition, to rebuilding. He did everything from plumbing, electrical, windows/doors, drywall, flooring, paint (indoors and out), fixtures.....and more. Marathon completed the remodel on time, went above and beyond, and did it at a very good price. It is rare to find an honest, trust worthy, company that takes pride in their work. Well, Marathon is it and I couldn't have asked for a better contractor. Thank you Marathon!

I could not give a higher rating for Abe. This is an extraordinarily kind, honest, hardworking, and likeable guy. He does great work for a good price. He communicated through every step of the process and the end product was wonderful. He did a bunch of misc things for us, including drywall, insulation, and duct work. He is very talented and knows his way around most every trade. Best of all, you can't help but feel comfortable to have him around your home. He is just a great guy and a reliable, affordable option when you don't want to do the work yourself. I'll be hiring him again, that is for sure.

Javier was very responsive throughout the entire process from start to finish. He was quick to respond with a quote, answer questions, and confirm day/time to perform the work. He provided a firm quote, estimated timeframe, and the resulting drywall repair was excellent, you couldn't tell at all there was a hole there before. Javier is professional and very clean before, during, and after, the work. I recommend him and will be using again!

GW Construction helped me with a remodel. The job consisted of uprighting a 12 ft. support beam and approximately 25 drywall panels. The price was a lot less than other contractors that bid on the job and they completed the job in one week. Matt and Jody communicated with me on a daily basis asking how the job was going. They were absolutely dedicated to my satisfaction. The contractors that worked on the project were professional and made me laugh all day long. They even let me know when they saw a better idea for my remodel or saw something that we needed to tweak to make it look better. No fuss, no hassle, no problems. Matt gives you his price and sticks to it, even if something comes up and a little more work needs to be done. Overall a great experience and a job well done!

Martin and his crew did great work for us. They were professional and friendly. We originally had them give us a bid just to remove popcorn ceiling and repair some drywall, but we ended up hiring them to do lots more work - everything from installing can lighting with new electrical lines to installing new vinyl windows.

Jose and his team removed and replaced our hard wood floor after a flood in the kitchen that spread to the rest of our condo. Jose was very responsive and helped us find a floor that was a very close match to our prior one (our prior one was out of production). He gave a very competitive estimate and was open and honest throughout the process. Jose and his team arrived on time and completed the job in the time that they said they would. He also fixed some drywall and replaced all of the floor boards. The most important thing is that he was mindful of our budget and worked within the boundaries that we set. Overall, Jose and his team did solid work and were very responsive. The only reason that I don't give him 5 stars is that there was a bit of clean up after he was done, which wasn't necessarily part of the job, but would have been a way to go above and beyond.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

    • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
    • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

    • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
    • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
    • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
