Introduction: Are you interested in gaining a more natural sounding American English accent? Do you sometimes feel like people don’t understand what you are saying? Do you feel like your accent is holding you back? Does your speech interfere with your… Work/Professional life? Social life? Personal life? My name is Adam Zeller, and I want to help. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist, with a MA in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from San Diego State University, and an undergraduate background in Communications and Linguistics. I have experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) domestically (Boston, MA) and abroad (Japan), and have trained students from many different countries to successfully modify their accent, including students from: Japan, China, Taiwan, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Russia, India, Brazil, Ukraine, Morocco, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and more. If you are interested in hearing more about private accent tutoring, please feel free to send me a message, and we can set up a time to discuss your goals further. I live in Oceanside, CA, but often Zoom with clients all over the US. I look forward to hearing from you.

ESL (English as a Second Language) Lessons

Adam was such a great instructor. After a comprehensive assessment session, he tailored out ten classes according to my needs, so I don’t feel that a single moment has been wasted. He is also 100% committed and present during the classes - that’s a big motivator! It’s been a while since we last, but I still carry his lessons with me. I now see the English language differently from when I started. And not only my accent has improved, but I also feel more comfortable around speaking overall. I strongly recommend him!

ESL (English as a Second Language) Lessons

Adam is a highly qualified friendly teacher. Your accent will be carefully assessed throughout all the lessons. Adam will provide clear guidance and tips you can actually apply straight away. You will be able to hear the improvement almost immediately, now you just need to practice. Adam will provide valuable resources for your practice in the lessons and after.

I have been speaking English as a second language for many years. Adam was able to quickly identify sounds that I still could not distinguish, and taught me tricks to improve my pronunciation. I have been able to apply these tricks quickly in my daily conversation. Each lessons are also recorded and are available for review. Definitely recommended for any level.

ESL (English as a Second Language) Lessons

Adam is a great teacher with an ear for accurately accessing where accent improvement is needed. Adam's ability to identify this and then show me how to bridge the difference between my accent and the standard American accent is very effective. Adam is very interactive and pays close attention during our 1-on-1 classes. I feel very comfortable and at ease with Adam, which is important. He also has a variety of materials for practice during and after class. I'm very happy with my experience with Adam and the class has almost become like practicing accent reduction while catching up with a friend. Thank you, Adam!

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Clients are free to try individual lessons one at a time, but a typical course lasts for 10 weeks, including an introductory accent assessment. After completion of the 10 weeks, additional training sessions are of course available if the client would like to continue practice in specific areas. Please send me a message for more information about pricing and scheduling!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

If you send me a message, we can chat over the phone for 5-10 minutes to discuss your personal goals, and go over an outline of the course and how it works. During our first session I will conduct an assessment of your speech in order to identify the greatest areas of need, and where the biggest change/improvement can be made. Of course I always want to know if you have any specific areas you would like to focus on, and we can decide together how to adjust the training.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a Speech/Language Pathologist, working mainly with school-aged children with developmental disorders/delays. I also have experience as an ESL Instructor for several years as well (both in the US as well as abroad in Japan), and in my graduate coursework have specifically taken classes specifically aimed at phonetics/phonology and the sounds/patterns of languages. Formal education: BA, Communication, Minor, Linguistics, University of Massachusetts Amherst MA, Speech, Language, & Hearing Sciences, San Diego State University Certificate of Clinical Competence, American Speech-Hearing Association Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential, California Commission on Teacher Credentialing TESOL/TEFL Teaching Certification, Oxford Seminars
