FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Jewelry / Metalsmithing from San Diego State University.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I went to San Diego State University to be a 2D artist, but after taking my first metals class I was hooked. I love the challenges and rewards of working with metal. Jewelry is living art. It goes out into the world and lives among people. Its individual and personal to the wearer. It's something that can become an heirloom passed down through generations, can be symbols of love and affection. It can be some many things to many people, it has a much deeper connection to us as humans than other forms of art.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Recently I made a choker out of 2 pieces of sunken treasure coins. I was a bit skeptical about her choice of a choker, because the coins are about 1 1/2" diameter and a little heavy. We had many discussions on materials to use and in the end decided upon silver rope chain, which I thought would give it a nautical look. She also challenged my by wanting to add a black pearl, which I had never worked with previously. It came out great! The choker does not tip from the weight as I feared it might and she was very pleased with the final product.
