Engagement is one of the keys. A true teacher awakes immediate interest for the subject to every one of his (her) students. This comes more from true knowledge, ability, love and passion for giving to others what you know. The hearth's gratification for helping others to achieve. The challenge of the student's inquisitive mind. The confidence in the students' eyes at the end of the class.

Learning English as a second language can be daunting without the right teacher and teaching methods. My approach uses 40 proven methods to make learning both fun and easy and it keeps the student involved every step of the way. Personal interest and patience are also highly valued by my students because everyone wants to know they are respected and appreciated by their teacher. I absolutely love helping people learn things that are important to their life and learning a language opens the door to so many opportunities. It is very rewarding to see a student progress from speaking haltingly to being able to converse with ease.

I am originally from South America and have an education at the University of Washington as a romance language major. I enjoy helping others to learn Spanish using the Capretz Method. You learn the language as a child learns to talk. It is fun and efficient.

About

My name is Stephen Riley, and I am a traveling music and English teacher. Along with my wife, Annelisa Riley, I have been working for the past two years to hone in on what makes the English language easy for some and hard for others. After working in China for a year teaching English to students ranging from age 1-12, Annelisa and I began dreaming and scheming of ways to improve the process of learning English while having a lot of fun. Both Annelisa and I have been deeply moved by music and involved in the creation of music from early in life. Now, we believe we have found a way of teaching that speaks for both us as teachers and you as students. Everyone loves music, and everyone needs to communicate to have long-term success. Our curriculum uses classic folk music and contemporary songs to bring the student deeper into the English language. By focusing on the poetic lyrics of folk music, we are able to bring the student a more compulsory understanding of how to form sentences and adequately express themselves. Then we begin working with the student on learning to play some of these songs, focusing on guitar chords, strumming patterns, and for the more experienced students, harmonica playing. Finally, we work with the student to create an original piece of music in English that they can be proud to call their own work of art. Riley School of American Folk Music is not just about learning to speak the English language. It is about learning to create.

About

I have lived and taught English abroad in Costa Rica and Brazil, as well as traveled throughout Europe and South America. I am fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. For the past couple years, I have been teaching kids classes (as well as tutoring adults) anything from creative writing to art, Spanish and geography. I am a very enthusiastic and creative person, which helps me bring very unique and fun activities to class. I always accommodate my lessons based on the student's level and specific need or interest just like for example, if you need to learn English for business or work or perhaps you need to learn some conversational Spanish for traveling. Everyone is unique so I like to make all of my lessons unique as well. No matter what, we always have a good time!
