This is the first time I used Nicolette to care for my cat, Zurich. Nic was great and texted me photos of him each time she visited. She was very caring and sweet which really made the difference!

Excellent service !! Unfortunately my dog just passed away but the owner and one of her employees came by and did a meet and greet before taking care of my dog while I was out of country and they gave him a toy that he kept near by till his last day..

Michele was excellent. She picked up my little guy, took him to her house and groomed him and brought him back. She was friendly, punctual and took very good care of my dog because when he came back he was happy. Highly recommend. Mark R.

Juliet in my opinion is the "animal whisperer." There is no one else I'd rather have care for my animals than her. She also leaves the house clean and tidy just I have left it. I always have a great peace of mind when I leave my pets!

Jennifer O. March 12, 2017 VERIFIED STAY Trina has been checking in on my pups while we're at school and work and has been very patient with my dogs who tend to be very leery of new people. She sends me a report on how it went each day, putting my mind at ease and is making progress with my little ones, which I'm sure isn't easy. I really appreciate having her as our doggie-sitter. ============================= Laura D. February 1, 2017 VERIFIED STAY We're so glad we found Trina! With three dogs and a cat, it's been hard to find quality in-house pet care in Vallejo, but Trina was wonderful. We felt completely at ease having her stay in our home and the animals clearly think she's the best. We are certain we will be using Trina again in the future. ============================== Susan F. December 19, 2016 VERIFIED STAY Trina did a home visit for our older hound. He is a lover, but can be very picky when it comes to eating. Trina spent lots of time with him and even got him to eat! She spent the extra time to clean up after him, and wrote us a lovely note detailing how he did with her while we were gone. We feel very comfortable using Trina, and look forward to using her in the future. ============================== Teresa B. July 21, 2016 VERIFIED STAY Trina was a wonderful help when I went on vacation and had no one to watch my two shiba inus. She was prompt and very professional in responding. Very accommodating with regards to my dogs needs as well as mine. She was very sweet to my two little children when meeting them. The dogs were in good spirits upon my return and I could tell they were well cared for. I appreciate that she let me know each time she was at the house, and it was exactly what we agreed on. She also brought in my mail and ensured the house was intact, in addition the house was how I left it upon my return. I would strongly recommend her to anyone needing care for their animals and I will be calling on her again! Thank you Trina. ================================ Ben S. July 19, 2016 VERIFIED STAY Trina is WONDERFUL! We left our two dogs with Trina to be sat for two nights while we went Rafting & Camping, and then to an event in San Francisco the next day. The dogs ABSOLUTELY loved her! She has a 10 year old Boxer named Max, and Cash, my partners tiny little 5lb. Chihuahua, hung with his new buddy on Trina's living room couch. Tilly, my 12lb. Jack/Pom mix adores Trina as well, and loves going on walks with Max. PERFECT SITUATION for us -- Trina lives about 2 minutes away from us, and she also agreed to take the dogs again last minute for another night the following weekend, while we go kayaking. She's a lovely person, and is VERY thorough, and VERY responsive to her clients needs, both human and canine. I HIGHLY recommended her and her services.

We recently had the pleasure of engaging Amy to care for our two cats while we were out of town. We couldn’t be happier with the service she provided. She did all the feeding and maintenance activities we requested but went above and beyond when playing and caring for our two loved ones. She sent us great pictures and updates, it was reassuring and fun to receive the photos. Our cat Kato is a real recluse when it come to new people in the home… We were so surprised to see pictures of him out playing with Amy and our other cat D’jango. We highly recommend Amy’s pet sitting!

Erica (and Sampson) took such wonderful care of our puppy! We cannot thank them enough! Erica knew exactly how to handle our crazy, over the top puppy who received an hour of private training while at daycare. We were thrilled about that! She’s patient, caring and has a lovely dog-friendly home with a fantastic backyard. Our puppy came home calm, well-rested and happy! Thank you Erica!

Korina took care of my 3 year old lab while gone for 2 weeks on vacation. She did a wonderful job! She would feed him, fill his water bowl, play with him, take him on walks and even pick up his 5lb poops lol what I loved the most about her dog sitting my Buddy is she took the time to even FaceTime with him which made me feel like I was there with him. I highly recommend Korina McCray to anyone that needs daily dog sitting and/or while gone on vacation or business.

Wiggly Tail took care of my cat Jewels all last year when I lived in San Diego. My cat Jewels has kidney disease and I felt so comfortable leaving her in the care of Paulina. She took excellent care of her; she kept me informed of how she was doing on a regular basis; did anything extra I asked her to do for Jewels with no hesitation. I wish I could have taken Wiggly Tail with me when I moved to FL. I highly recommend this pet care giver.

I hired Pet Stays and Plays to walk my dog for 30 minutes, 3 times a week since I work long days. It has been the greatest relief knowing Brixton is taken care of and in great hands. Although my dog is not the easiest dog(Little rescue dog). Jenny has been able to gain his trust and work through some of these issues. I’m thankful to her for socializing him around other animals as well. An added bonus is when out of town Jenny knows his schedule and steps right in to take care of him.

Wes has taken care of my dogs and house a few times when I was travelling for work for a few times, from a couple days to a couple weeks. He did an awesome job, the dogs were in great hands. Wes even took them on excursions around town, which is always a treat for the pups. I should point out that I have 2 Shiba Inus, and they can be quite stubborn and loud if they don't like something. I never had to worry when Wes was taking care of them. They pups always were happy, and my neighbors were happy, too. I would recommend Wes in a heartbeat.

Care is an amazing pet care sitter! Every time I go to pick up my pup Rascal, her and Fenway are happily trying to get in the last few minutes of playing before she has to go home. Rascal comes home super happy, and tired from all her play time, walking and trips to the dog park. Leaving my pup with Care definitely eases my mind when I am away-especially since I can follow their adventures under her own special hashtag, #rascalisfamous, on Instagram!

Hired Alex to pet sit our cats while we went out of town last weekend. Was nervous to leave our fur babies with just anyone; however, upon meeting Alex at our consultation, I knew she was someone I could trust. Alex is very professional, accommodating and reliable! She also kept us up to date on how our cats were doing and sent pictures of them while they were under her care! Would highly recommend Alex and look forward to having her take care our fur babies in the future!!!

I have 4 purry furry cats aging from 6 to 16 years old. I hate going away because I always think my babies are going to fall victim to something horrible and I won't be there for them. They all have different personalities and needs that require a personal touch. My youngest has to play a while each day or she will try to turn my nervous and timid Calico Manx into a confetti colored chew toy. Bunny, the Manx, has issues with her stomach and has a special diet. When she is spooked she pees, that is something I want checked by someone knowledgeable about cats. My boy cat had kidney surgery last summer and it's necessary to make sure he isn’t having pain or appetite issues. Our eldest cat conscripts the others into shenanigans and this often means we come home to find that she has discovered a food we didn’t know was available and made it into a buffet. She is small, looks innocent, but is wily with a plan in the works every moment. These are the reasons I can't just drop and go, I need to know they are cared for or I can't enjoy my time away. I am afraid they will change the locks and rule the roost if we don’t feed them routinely. I can’t take the chance the freeloaders won’t get into trouble if left alone or to the care of someone who just comes by to fill their dishes. Lori gave me the best price quote on Thumbtack and had a great conversation with me via messages making my selection easy. She arrived at our home and met with my husband and furries to go over our routine and meet each of our cats a few days before we left. She was well loved by our more social kitties and my husband said she had great vibes. Good vibes is important to me because I want someone who is compassionate taking care of my babies. While we were away Lori came 3 times a day to feed, play, and clean their box. After every visit she sent me a photo and a status update. She replied promptly when I had comments or questions leaving me feeling like everything was under control. It meant everything to me to hear her tell me what she had experienced in each visit because she was caring for what is most important in my life: my family. When I arrived home there was a note from her with a kind message about her enjoyment in caring for my cats, saying how beautiful and sweet they are (they had her fooled because she didn’t mention sly and devious). Our big Angora was so soft when we came home I was convinced she had spent most of her visits petting him. He confirmed this suspicion when he kept by the door waiting for her to return rather than joining me for Mommytime. The cost of our sitting and care was cheap in my opinion. It was obvious that Lori and Pawprints aren’t trying to take advantage of our need for a sitter by trying to nickel and dime us. Some of the quotes I received for caring for my cats was astronomical for 3 days, one was over $400 for 9 visits. Our entire weekend of Lori’s incredible care cost us only $175. Before we moved we had a fantastic sitter who was comparable in care fees and care quality we just received from Pawprints. We are truly blessed to have found Lori, as we were to find Ashley previously. I will be using Pawprints service in the future and I feel so much more confident to go places knowing Lori will be caring for my babies.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

        • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
        • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
          • 45-minute visit: $28.
          • 60-minute visit: $32.
        • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
        • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
          • 12 hours: $100.
          • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
