We recently used Jose to do some improvements on a home that we just purchased. We were very concerned about finding someone both professional and talented since this our first home purchase. Thankfully we were absolutely impressed with both Jose's talent and professionalism. Jose did an amazing job and treated our home as it if was his own. We will be using Jose now and in the future for all home improvements and repairs. We highly recommend Jose as handyman, electrician, painter etc. Please feel free to contact us for any reference.

We are so glad that we hired Michael to paint our new home! We received estimates from 5 painters and Michael's estimate was the most affordable so we decided to meet with him. From the very start, Michael was very professional. He was thorough with his initial walk through and stuck with his original estimate. It was very easy to communicate with Michael - he was available via email, phone and text and was very quick to reply so we were never kept waiting to hear from him. We've never met a painter with as much passion as Michael has, which should tell any potential customer that he will do a great job. He is very dedicated to pleasing his customers and finishing the job-not only on time but finishing it with high quality and in the way that you want it done. Over the course of the week, he was great about checking in to make sure we were happy with the progress and was very open to making any changes that we wanted to make. He's got a great team working with him that share the same work ethic as he does which made it very easy for us to trust them coming into our home everyday. We are so happy with the final project and will most definitely recommend Michael to family and friends.

Brian painted a few rooms in my house for me this summer. Not only was I impressed with the way he helped me decide which color to choose, but with his attention to detail and quality of work. In the past ive had other painters leave streaks on the wall or do a messy job. Not Brian! He finished the job in a timely manner and was a professional from beginning to end. My expectations were truly exceeded! Thank you Smitty's Painting!!

Eddie and his crew were here when they said they would be, completed the project in a timely manner even in the extreme heat. I have worked with many painters through my lifetime and Eddie is in the top 3. I liked his work so much I asked him to give me a price for the interior also. I will be working with Eddie again in the future.

We had water damage, a bizarre whole-ceiling light fixture a la 70s, damaged linoleum flooring, 1/4-1/2” brown grout lines. & more. Jason fixed it all beautifully, demoing, drywalling, painting, tiling, cleaning, & painting more. His work is impeccable, he is very neat, & he did it all in about 5 days. He was helpful when we ran into plumbing issues, & when asked to add on random details like replacing damaged casing, painting the grout (eco-friendly), & helping with the ceiling fan, he was obliging.

We hired Jeff to remove popcorn ceilings in our living room and paint the living room and master bedroom. I got several quotes from different painters and his was one of the most reasonable. From the beginning he was responsive and easy to communicate with. His crew was prompt, courteous, and professional. I was extremely impressed with the quality of their work- our living room and bedroom look 100 times better! Would definitely hire Jeff and his crew again.

Would highly recommend Mancillas Painting for any interior home project! Professional painters who made the entire process easy and painless for the homeowner. Able to fit the painting into my schedule quickly after the initial walk-through/estimate. Did an outstanding job on the new accent wall!

We submitted the same painting project several times on Thumbtack because each time we selected a painter, they didn't show up. On our final submission we were lucky to have Luis bid on our project. Luis gave a comptitive bid compared to the other no shows so we decided to do a walk through with him. During the walkthrough Luis made suggestions and offered to do several patches to our drywall for free. On the day that we were scheduled to paint, Luis let us know when he was on the way to our house and he showed up on time. The paint job turned into a much larger project than either Luis or us had anticipated (what we all thought would be a one day job actually turned into a three to four day job). Instead of Luis taking shortcuts to finish in one day so that he could get onto his next job, we appreciated the attention to detail that he took with the job. He came back, day after day, to make sure everything was perfect in the daylight. We plan to use Luis for our next paining job.

Daniel and his team were awesome! I posted on Thumbtack that I needed a last minute painter ASAP, and he responded about ten minutes after my post saying he could help. I then called him, and he said he could get someone from his team to come out first thing in the morning, which was exactly what I needed as I was scheduled to move out of my apartment that same day. I had already done two coats of paint on my own and definitely realized I needed a professional to finish up the job. The next morning, one of his guys showed up right on time and got the job done in a little over an hour. He was quick and did a fantastic job on my room! If I ever need a painter in the future, Daniel will definitely be the person I call!

Raul was very trustworthy and had great work ethic. I was able to rely on him to fix and touch up everything the original painter left undone, which was quite a lot of details but Raul was excellent at jumping in and correcting everything. He was professional and did a great job for us. We ended up asking him to work several days on other projects.

I am a recent homeowner in Escondido, Ca and I looked on thumbtack for a contractor and that's when I first found Luke Carr Construction which was an excellent choice. My old house built in the 1920s needed to be completely remodelled, there were holes and cracks in the lath and plaster which other constractors were leary of working with lath and plaster. Luke fixed all the walls, rewired all the electrical in my house, including new ceiling fans and can lights as well as new deco switches and outlets throughout that I purchased from Home Depot. He also painted the entire 4 bedroom house each room with a different colour I selected. He refinished the original hardwood floor in the house as well as the old chipped and base floor moulding, which came out superb! He opened walls and doorways to expose more of the kitchen and bedrooms, he created matching arch ways to match the ceiling. At first I was nervous because I've never done this before but in the end it looked even better than I could visualize and it created a more open atmosphere, I've received lots of compliments from family and friends about the unique arch ways. He also gave me advice on landscaping and didn't charge me to replant some of my trees that were put in too deep (took two hours), and gave me advice on the exterior which is the next phase of my home. He is an excellent painter, clean and neat, matches existing texture perfectly the other contractor said he would try but couldn't guantee it would match. He also did additional electrical work in the bathroom and advised me to add extra outlets in the living room that I didn't think I needed but really have helped me bring the house up to code. Overall Luke is a trustworthy guy and is very respectful of my choices, he gets the work done, he doesn't have a lot of the modern technology like 3D imaging and I don't believe he has a website but his dedication and old school ways worked beautifully for me and my job. He prides himself on his family life, I met his grandchildren on two different occasions and they were sweet. I'm looking forward to having him back for Phase 2! I've recommend him to two of my friends, one of which used him and she was very satisfied. Patricia

Joey was amazing. We moved into a house we had only seen online. When we got here the interior of the house had an array of paint shades in the yellow spectrum ranging from mustard yellow to pastel yellow. There were several poor transitions on the walls and places where the paint wasn’t even the same color. To make matters worse we had only a short time before our house hold goods were set to arrive. I called 6 painters before I finally posted on thumbtack. Joey got back to me immediately. He came out and gave us a quote within a few hours and stated the job the next day! His price was VERY reasonable for the efficiency and quality workmanship his team offered. He catered to us going the extra mile and fixing areas where the last painters had been sloppy with the wall texture... I cannot say enough positive things about our experience with Joey.

He was a great guy and very meticulous but wasn't quite able to get the water spot removed. Still showed a little after the paint job was done. Perhaps more of the primer should have been applied? That being said, I really liked Patrick and I hired a handyman rather than a painter to keep my cost low. I would definitely hire him for other kinds of jobs.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

    • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
    • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
    • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
    • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
    • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
