Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Hello! I am passionate about empowering people through singing and math. I am an enthusiastic and patient person, and I love working with students to help them achieve their goals and feel great about the work they do, regardless of the subject! You can read a little bit more below about my work in the subject of your interest. Singing: I am a professional opera singer, have studied singing for over 15 years, and have been performing all the while. I am passionate about the work I do and sharing my experiences with others. I teach students of all levels and with a wide range of goals and musical ambitions; the foundations of good, healthy, sustainable singing are common to nearly all singing styles. In our lessons we will work on exercises to build stamina, range, strength, and breath control. And without even realizing it, your musicianship will improve, too! Math: My years of experience as a math tutor have taught me that each student learns in a unique way, and our success together depends upon my meeting the student on their level and adapting my tutoring to the style of the student. I am comfortable teaching all subjects of Math, K-12, including basic math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus material, calculus, and statistics. I also work with college students in the same subjects just listed, including Statistics and the first year of college-level Calculus. I hold a B.A. (cum laude) in Sustainable Development from Columbia University, and I completed my M.M. in Voice at Manhattan School of Music. These two areas may seem distantly related, but they complement each other in my life, and perhaps in yours, too! But, not to worry: there usually isn't too much overlap in the lessons :)

Josh is an EXCELLENT and experienced tutor. He as tutored my kids(age 13 and 9) for almost two years. He helped them with math, writing and science(they have done a few science experiments as well). Josh has a wonderful way to get down to my kids’ level of understanding in order when explaining material. He is able to explain problems in many different ways as well as taking his time to make my kids understand the material thoroughly. He also knows how to push them a bit further in order to challenge them. My kids are always excited for their sessions with Josh. He is always punctual and has a very high work ethic. He has a wonderful appetite for learning himself that it is quite contagious. My kids are much more confident in their studies because of Josh.

Josh is such an encouraging and gifted teacher. He communicates his enthusiasm for the voice passionately and sensitively and I always feel like he is very present and engaged for our sessions - he never phones it in! I can’t recommend lessons with him highly enough for reaching your vocal goals!

Working with Mr. Arky was extremely helpful to my SAT preparation. I was extremely busy with practice on top of my academics, so I had little to no time to study on my own. Just with my sessions with Mr. Arky, I was able to raise my score 60 points.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My pricing reflects the time and energy I put into each session, both with the student and outside of session hours. I love what I do, and I care deeply about helping others. My hourly rate represents what I need to sustain myself and continue offering the services I offer.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I typically spend extra time in the first sessions getting to know my students. I believe it's important to develop a personal connection with the student, which is certainly something that develops over time, but I like to begin building that connection and trust right from the get-go. I also spend extra time in the early sessions exploring what learning methods the student responds to best, which informs how I instruct.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

My undergraduate studies at Columbia University were in Sustainable Development, which is a field at the intersection of environmental science, politics, and economics. Because of my degree (and just an all-around interest in math and science), I have taken courses in calculus, statistics, physics, and chemistry. I completed my graduate studies at Manhattan School of Music, where I studied opera and voice. I have participated in numerous apprenticeship programs, and have performed roles all over the country, with companies such as San Diego Opera, Virginia Opera, Palm Beach Opera, and Central City Opera. I have been teaching math and singing for some time now, and I have refined my teaching style as a result. I have, of course, been influenced by wonderful teachers and professors along the way!
